Mortal Kombat Deception, to me, was great for that.
-It felt like everything was crumbling and a war was going on
-the good guys lose, so most of the darkness took over
-The stages add to the darkness, by providing evil stuff in the stages
-The music also added to the feeling of the Darkness

What do you think?

I also think MK2 and UMK3 were pretty Dark too.

I also agree. Deception had one of the darkest atmospheres in MK history, plus it was the bloodiest with all the death traps.

After that, I say MK2 because of the spooky fantasy arenas, especially ones like the Dead Pool.

MK3 also was dark. Arenas like the Cave, Graveyard, and Soul Chamber were awesome. They really set the tone.

Deception was the game that we can call the Darkest MK.
Everything was awesomely macabre. The ambientations of the stages were creepy, the deathtraps were brutal, the main good guys hero (the incorruptable RAIDEN) lost his mind and became a freack assassin with a dark look, the Boss was without a doubt, the Darkest boss of all MK, and the beautifull Konquest mode, turned the game even more mistycal and misterious.

MK 2 was the darkest 2D MK game. It has that dark creepy look in stages, stage fatalities, the warriors ladder is marked in a stone mountain that rises from a BLOOD OCEAN (awesome), and all the game sounded creepy.

I'm pretty sure that these two games were the darkest MK's so far.
MK3 was too, but the urban stages and some electronic musics, made it "softer", and not that creepy. Besides, the Fatalities in MK3 were nothing compared to the ones of MK2. In MK3 they lost plenty of realism.

I agree with everyone here: Deception was the darkest MK thus far. From the main menu to the final boss arena, everything gives off that obscure vibe of darkness and danger at every turn.

I do think that MK: 8 will steal its trophy, though, since "dark" is what the MK Team is focusing on.

Depends on what you mean by "dark".

Could mean the:

1. Color scheme. Alot of the Mks have "dark" color schemes.

2. Atmosphere. (props ect). All of the Mks have a dark atmosphere

3. Mood, which is kinda like saying "scary". Some of them were more "scary" than others...

Among other things of course.....

___
"Dark" means too many things for a game like Mk. But, if I were to choose based on what's listed above here, I'd have to say Mk1 or 2. Some of those vibrant arenas had a darker mood than anything we're getting as of late.

Besides that, I really judge based on the "feeling of death" or "danger" in the game....and since this is so, no MK game pass MkT gets a true "dark" nod from me.
