All I know is...

Sindel was based on the Bride of Frankenstein.

And Raiden and Fujin are based on real elemental gods.

Cyrax and Sektor = Predator

Fujin = Japanese Mythological God

Bo Rai Cho = Jackie Chans' Drunken Master

Nightwolf = Stereotype

Jax = Stereotype

Kenshi = Mortal Kombat Conquest Character: "Siro", real name:
Daniel Bernhardt

Shujinko = Master of the Flying Guillotine

Taven = Ben Aflec

Shang Tsung = Mortal Kombat Conquest Character: "Shang Tsung", real name: Bruce Locke

Raiden = Japanese Mythological God("Rai" = Thunder + "Jin" = Lightning /// Raijin = Raiden) >>>>Big Trouble in Little China

Sonya = Cynthia Rothrock

Kira = Mortal Kombat Conquest Character: "Taja", real name:
Kristanna Loken

That's all the ones I remember right off hand.

I think not only does Bo' Rai Cho have inspiration from Jackie Chan but also Fat Bastard. tongue

Kung Lao's hat throwing concept came from James Bond, if I'm not mistaken.

Shinnok is of course based off of Steve Beran, but I still think of Shinnok as the Pope on acid.

lol, I don't really see NW, Jax as a stereotype no more then Liu Kang is really...

If the character is a minority, that doesn't make it an automatic stereotype.

SF has a native, so does KI....

Every fighter btw has a "bruce lee" inspired character if you guys noticed that has a whhhaa haaa noise when they do moves lol.

But anyway, every series was inspired by someone or something anyway but still I believe there are a lot of MK characters that are made up by midway. But first I'll list some of the similarities and differences.

Kano and Terminator only look alike due to the eye thing, nothing else.

Raiden, the hat might be based off the dude in big trouble but that's it. The god inspired from my search seems to be true.

Cage=definitely based off Van Damme, in fact he was supposed to play Cage originally(fun fact)

Ninja's, are based off themselves. They're all unique in their own way.

And scorpion and GR to me have nothing in common except fire power and both are undead, and the flaming head other then that ones a ninja bent on revenge for the most part, the other fights injustice, ones a biker, the other isn't...and so on

Kira and taja have nothing to do with each other....two entirely different characters, besides that's MK on MK even if it were true. If anything I'd say Kira was based possibly off of Jola, not Taja. I have the entire series and watched it 100 times now lol, there's nothing similar about taja and kira.

Taven and Ben Afflect? lol maybe in a bizarro/superman kind of way

Bo based off Drunken master is a good comparison, except one is fat other skinny then there's the bo.

Kenshi is also not based on Ciro, again that's kind of a very out there analogy personally IMO. One guy is blind and asian, the other is white and can actually see. They look nothing alike.

Jinko, I don't see how he's based off anyone. He's his own character.

Sonya based off of nobody.

Fujin might have been inspired by some God, but I'm pretty certain that the God of Wind is not it and that's for MK alone.

Cyrax and Sektor only have similarities with the predator in the sense of the long wires/hair in the back of their heads, other then that not at all. One is an organic hunter, the other is a cyborg ninja.

Sindel seems to be a combination of based off of, the hair looks like the Bride of Frakenstein as far as the colors, not the hairstyle...and banshee from X-Men a little bit.

Sindel's powers do more then just hurt the ears.

Ohh yeah Kung Lao's hat toss move was inspired by Bond's famous villian "oddjob"

Of course this doesn't only apply to MK, SF has characters like Ken Masters that's based off of Johnny in the Karate Kid, USA guy with blond long hair...

Kobra seemed to be a combination of Johnny from the KK and Ken, but evil.

Blanka=The Hulk just not in the exact same fashion, human to monster...etc

KIRA Is based off of Jola in Mortal Kombat:Conquest. Though she was based on Taja LOOKS WISE.

Bo'Rai'Cho is based off of Master Cho from mortal kombat conquest and fat bastard from Austin Powers.

Sindel, bride off franken stein and STORM of X-men.
