1st off, don't think of it as a crazy idea...

Raiden and Shao Kahn were both advisors for their respected realms. Idk if the atmosphere of Outworld got the better of him, or its just the way he's always been, Shao Kahn got fed up, poisoned the Dragon King and took over the realm for himself. Raiden can't fight in Outworld b/c it drains his powers so of course he couldn't fight the DA. After the self-sacrifice he found out all of this was b/c of Shujinko, an Earthrealm warrior. Raiden is fed up with warriors like Shujinko messing things up so he might pull a Shao Kahn and take over Earthrealm with an ironfist. I mean who would stop a pissed off Raiden? Either that or he got really messed up b/c of Outworld.

It's partially true in the games. He had to take on a mortal form with reduced power in order to fight in both MK2 and 3, because he's not a god of Outworld.

Granted, after MK4 he became an Elder God and Fujin became the new Protector of Earth, and then Raiden stepped down and became just a regular god again to fight the Deadly Alliance. So now that he's no longer protector of Earthrealm, Raiden can keep his powers in any realm he travels to.

At least, I think so. It would explain why his death in Deception wasn't permanent. We were always led to believe in the earlier games that taking a mortal form was a huge sacrifice for Raiden because it meant he risked dying for good.

You mean that Raiden go insane, take the might of all evil after defeating Shao Kahn and control Earthrealm with evil forces?

Hmmm...

Who can stop Raiden then? First i thought after all and saving Earthrealm Shang Tsung chose the good side and give Liu Kang some powers to stop Raiden. Once Liu Kang came back from the dead and maybe he is the right guy for this mission and so Liu Kang will be a hero once again but i don ́t forget that Shang Tsung is like a poison snake and when you turn him your back he will try to bite. But don ́t forget Raiden is just a player too in this big game and when he get really pissed off than come the Elder Gods to stop him...

The Elder Gods are apathetic towards the realms. They would only intervene if Raiden posed a threat towards them. They are not good guys at all.
through it all, its just weird that raiden is following a similar path which shao kahn took. im just throwin my thoughts around, u know. maybe the mk team will elaborate on this. this will be an interesting turn of events though.

Raiden swore to protect Earthrealm so, I don't think it will become like Outworld.

I seriously doubt that Raiden would be the next Shao Kahn.

If they do that with Raiden, I hope they progress him through his current objective. Which is multiple targets.

Otherwise, don't even do it.

Agreed, I don't like Dark Raiden at all. I know he apparently has a few fans also but I am not one of them.

We already have enough evil realm threatening villains. Shao Kahn, Shinnok (whom I would like to see return), Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi. I don't want to add Raiden to the mix.

If the mk team wants to have Raiden be a villain in the next mk and then wrap up the Dark Raiden story, I could deal with that fine. It could be mildly interesting for a game.

As long as I have Light Raiden as an alt costume I would be fine with it for mk9 only.

Yay! I'm no longer in the apparent minority. For a while there I thought there was only a few people that preferred the 'Light' Raiden over the dark. Maybe in the next (if there is a next) canon game they will wrap up the whole Dark Raiden story arc and give us back our old thundergod.

I for one like dark Raiden, cause I fell light Raiden has done what he has done and his story won't change much. It's just like what they did for Liu Kang to keep his storyline, after all he didn't much between the first four games. I can see dark Raiden possibilities with teaming up with Shinnok.

Yea...he's probably not teaming up with Shinnok

He's still the protector of Earthrealm...he's just an asshole now.
Look at it like this... Raiden is a freakin God! He wasn't really supposed to participate in the tournament but was invited by Shang Tsung. He was suppose to let the warriors of earthrealm defend it in MK. Until Shao Kahn broke the rules, he stepped in and lend a helping hand because he must protect earthrealm at all costs. Now with a few ppl screwing up alot in the past... He's a pissed off God! He will protect Earthrealm with an ironfist, but knowingly cannot control the mistakes of mortals like Shunjinko, so ruling it will be his other option, IF they go that route....

One cool thing that I can think of right now that Dark Raiden could do to somewhat make me tolerate him for a little while is fry Shujninko for being arguably the biggest dumb ass in the mku for resurrecting the Dragon King.

He may or may not be the biggest idiot out there but he is certainly the most gullible.

I could understand how Dark Raiden would be pissed with him.

Dude you make a great point. I love the old Raiden, but in Deception and Armageddon I hate him. He is supposed to be a god, not a bad guy. With the way his story is going I wish he died when he realised his power on Onaga.
