what do ppl think of a block meter. so eventually their guard will break after taking a few hits/special. and the meter re-generates if not being hit. thoughts?

Wait what? There's a block button, unless someone is being thrown there are no cross ups

Like from SFA3? Eh, with chip damage from normals and (hopefully) speedy dashes leading to some good rushdown, then I think a block meter really wouldn't be necessary.

Cross-up like MK2? Yes. Cross-up like SF? No.
Honestly, having this style of cross-up in the game just means you don't have to space your jump-ins as well. Removes a small amount of depth, but not really a big concern.

Nice to hear from you Check, I think that your post will soothe a lot of the concerns we have here. Makes me look forward to this new game that much more now that I've heard from you.

^Same way as his playing it now. i.e. was he hired by Midway to test out MKVSDC. Has Check been hired by NRS to test out MK?
Videos are all hit or miss. Some of 'em look great, others look like garbage. Hopefully we get some heavy hitters at PAX East that can give us a lot of feedback on the mechanics amidst the slackjawed yokels who just uppercut throughout the match.

All the gameplay buffs in the world couldn't save that pile. Your point is moot.

I've heard multiple times that Sub-zero has no pop-up attack, but I've seen otherwise on many occasions. Even in his official storymode vid, he does a very similar jumping downward punch (ala MKvsDC) to pop up his opponent.. Maybe I'm naive, but the moves they have in their official vids should be accurate. Anyone want to comment?

Pre-release or while it was in development? I find that hard to believe considering Superman's fail ground pound infinite

I think he meant "pre-release" as the time period between the game going gold and its actual release date.

And I meant "same time period" as exactly that. The point at which the game is at now is the same point at which it was at when he last had a similar opportunity.

And did he come in here telling fans to have no fear about MKDC too? Either way I'll be skeptical up till I actually play the game, though I am looking forward to some Pax write-ups.

I'm wondering if they should have a larger meter or at least have the enhanced specials take up less of it. A lot of the enhanced specials are just not looking worth it. Unless it's like the combos you can dish out with the three specials is more powerful then the actual x-ray/super or if the super is hard to land and the specials are just a lot safer. Idk... I guess i'll wait to see how it plays out... but hopefully one of the values that they can adjust without an update deals with the super meter, in the event that enhanced specials really are useless.
What do u guys think of two x-rays to chose from before the match?
I would love it, because my main is Johnny Cage and I'm not sure how well his counter x-ray will work. I think it would be nice to give players the option to pick one of two. Of course they should fit that characters style.

I don't think that would matter.
Think of x-rays like Supers in SF4. At most you'll only be able to use one x-ray per round, and since the meter also controls your ability to use EX moves and breakers, you probably won't see x-rays used more than once a match at most.
There's no point in choosing between two x-ray moves when it really won't matter which one you use. Even if Cage's second x-ray was really, really good, you still won't be able to use it more than once a round and that's only if you don't use any EX moves or breakers.

This is an interesting point. I thought I was going to hate the air kombat in MKA, but I found it very rewarding once I figured out what worked best for each character. I'm curious to see what they'll do for this game.

Here's my problem. If the move is going to burn up a whole bar it better be worth it. The other thing is this would increase player preference and it would suit certain players play style better.

I don't think you guys are following the purpose of x-ray moves. If the developers wanted them to be used frequently, they wouldn't be directly tied to breakers and EX moves. They're only meant to be used if you're almost dead and you have no other options available to you. It's like a last ditch effort to win a match you've basically lost.
If x-rays were really good, that would make breakers and EX moves useless. It would also mean that skill partially goes out the window because you can just use an x-ray when you're about to lose. That's not what x-rays are there for.
Now I will agree that some characters *may* need a tweak to their x-ray move, but only if they have no other useful tools. Cage's x-ray is a good example. It seems like you risk a lot by using it, and there doesn't seem to be a guaranteed way to connect it. *If* Cage doesn't have good combos or good EX moves, then I can see the possible need for a tweak. But even then, no character should have to rely on an x-ray to be competitive.

From the vids I've seen, Cage seems to be a great ground combo fighter, so a parry x-ray is actually perfect for him, IMO. I can see myself using EX moves a lot more than using x-ray attacks. Much more useful for the aggressive player.
