Maybe it's because I play more for fun rather than making a kick ass team for tourneys but I don't understand how Cap and Ryu suck. Ryu's beam hadoken is awesome and it seems like he can fit in well with any team, and Cap has a lot of tricks up his sleeve.

Tourneys are fun.smile

I guess I wouldn't go so far as to say they suck. Like you said, Ryu's Shinku is great, his Tatsu hyper and SRK both have an invincible start up, and air L.Tatsu is great for cross ups. But it's tough for him to really get in on characters like Deadpool without some sort of assist because his fireballs get chewed up by bullets, and his mobility is just wonky with him not being able to cancel his dash (granted he can wave dash) in as many ways as other characters can. ChrisG is God.

And Cap has some dope shit too, but like Ryu, he suffers from almost being too basic. Cap's Shield Slash doesn't work in the corner the way it does full screen so most of his BnBs are shot there, his Cartwheel has potential but it isn't invincible so he's totally vulnerable when using it, and he doesn't have any great OTG to speak of. American infinite is God.

So yeah, they don't suck, and you can win with them, but they have a decent amount of things working against them.

Sorry for the off topic shit.

StatueofLiberty has an awesome avatar.

I love Iron Chef.

Anyway, is anyone else concerned that only four characters will be playable in the demo? Granted, I believe that the balancing work is in good hands with the tourney level players that have helped, but four characters really isn't a big enough pool to give feedback on for us. I was kind of expecting maybe eight characters.

I don't believe the purpose of the demo was to get feedback from us. I think it was to continue to build hype by letting people have a small taste a little over a month before the game hits.

The demo is most likely just to build hype. This is the expected amount of characters from me.

I think the DOA 2 demo for dreamcast had 3 characters you could play as.

Its a taste to make you hungry for the main product.

Yea, I mean, I never explicitly said that it should be meant for us to give feedback, but it was just an idea.

Anyway, anybody else besides me absolutely loving Mileena so far? I definitely didn't expect this much awesome from her.

In the demo build, I'm seeing players who get the first attack are rewarded with another segment bar. I'm uneasy about that.

Share your opinion about it here, if you like.

I read around different forums that there are already a few retarded infinites/glitches found for each characters in the demo. LOL.
Edit: nvm. I guess it's an earlier built and some of the mechanics have been changed, but why do I get the feeling that this isn't the end.

The build is very old and was used because it's stable (can't have PSN demos crashing on people every 5 minutes). There's no need to be worried at this point.

I'm hoping they speed Sub up a bit. I find it difficult to punish with him only because he's so damn slow. Otherwise, I'm enjoying all the characters so far... even Johnny Cage, that button masher's dream.

wave dash = cancelling a dash into a crouch and then immediately into another dash so that you don't have to suffer whatever delay happens when you dash finishes naturally. Essentially allows you to cancel dashes into each other infinitely and cover tremendous distance quickly.

MK only allows you to cancel dashes into attacks not movement, so wave dashing is not possible.

Edit: I'm pretty sure that a wave dash is an example of a dash cancel. A dash cancel is basically just a dash that can be cancel off any type of move: dash, normal attacks, special attacks, throws, whatever.

Is it possible to do Scorpion's X-Ray off of a juggle? I'm trying to do the following:

B+2, dash, 1, 1, 1, X-Ray

... and it looks like the teleport punch should hit to start the X-Ray, but it doesn't. I'm beginning to think that such a combo isn't possible.

Also, am I crazy, or does Sub-Zero not have a launcher? I was messing around with him for a bit today and I noticed that he has no pop-up. At least he has a couple of combos that are good mix-ups, even if one of them pretty much requires you to have your opponent in a corner for the low to hit.

The actual term wave dash originated in tekken 3 where it was possible to cancel certain characters crouch dashes into themselves to achieve the goal of faster movement while avoiding any high attack. It was a big deal in TTT where the ability to wave dash had a huge impact on character viability.

It has since been pretty much applied to any game that allows you do dash xx do something xx dash again in rapid succession. Its become particularly big in MvC2/3 where its a quick and dirty way for slow-ish characters to get in on spammy keep away types.

I haven't played the demo myself so I'm not entirely sure, but I think for that combo you just cancel the second 1 into the X-ray. I've yet to see anyone do it by juggling with the full 111.

Which move is it? I was toying with his standard attacks before (not his specials, i.e. the slide) and I didn't come across any launchers.

EDIT: Nope, no launchers. They need to fix this.

Not every character needs a launcher. A bunch of characters in UMK3 didn't have launchers but they all turned out to be viable.
