Unless they actually decide to split from Midway, one would assume the MK team would be part of a Midway buyout, so WB would get both. I also see the MK team as being the primary focus of a potential buyout.

rumors,nothing real.
who in the heel shoud buy a dying company like Midway?
If someone is really interesting in saving someone's job he can just hire him/them.And sorry about my toughness but i doubt that any of the Midway staff can be useful to another company.Few exceptions are there in of course...but did you see the shit that Midway did with the Unreal Engine 3?
It's one of the easiest to program graphic engine and they released area 51....
they promised fewer better games and they release an incomplete piece of shit like tna impact.
they also managed to ruin a good game like stranglehold...

now if WB OR Ubisoft are going to hire someone:
1)they'll choose the few guy really skilled and able to match the standard required by new technologies
2)they'll save Mk team but will doom to death the rest of Midway

i don't see both happening to be realistical.it's just a matterof time and Midway will die by its own,so why hire Ed Boon & co right now when they caoul easily wait to be begged?

Midway holds a TON of unused IPs that could be resurrected by other developers. A buyout would potentially open the gate for new versions of games based off old franchises.

I'd love to see a new RUSH, Psi-Ops, Hydro Thunder, Joust, etc...

mmm

Not wb... with wmg taking music videos of youtube, if wb gets ahold of mk, no more mk videos!.... Friggin companies waving their E-Dicks around...

Ubisoft, ubisoft, ubisoft... Why not? And someone earlier mentioned Blizzard buyingn the franchise...

Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo... And Mortal Kombat? It's be interesting to see if they try to make an RTS out of mk... Otherwise, it'd be fun to see how they'd make a fighting game.

Well, if WB would let up on the "wholesome goodness" label for MK (forever, lol) I'd run with them.

That wasn't because of MK. It was because of the DC crossover. It was also only 1 game.

yay...mk vs dc 2, and 3, and 4, and 5, and...ugh

Because every WB title is a DC crossover, right?

Didn't say that, but certainly i MUST be talking about all WB games, and not the ones directly related to MK, right?

While it's certainly not guarenteed, who's to say it wouldn't happen?

I don't think a slew of vs. DC games would take precendence over a series of new MKs. We've only had 1 vs game, and 8 MKs in the series. I doubt they'll be focusing on MKvsDC titles.

You sound like you're against Mortal Kombat. The real fans want more MK games and they want them to be better than they have been.
Mortal Kombat is the only fighting game I give a crap about and I think it has a lot of potential to futher better itself. The problem is SOMETHING is holding it back, whether that be Midway or the dev team.

Either way... give us more Mortal Kombat!!

im down for ubisoft takin over it. We'd most likley see another shaolin monks kind of game with similar gameplay to prince of persia and assasins creed, which are both superb games.

Fair enough. Call me paranoid, but the fear of the whole crossover thing actually becoming what MK is, is one of the reasons I stood against the crossover to begin with.

didn't really mean it to sound that way. it's just that at this point i honestly don't think mortal kombat will ever be any better.

Dunno...they made a significant jump with MK/DC over how a 3D MK plays over the previous versions. I think that engine has potential.

Very surprised to see no mention of Microsoft/MS gaming studios wanting to buy them, especially with Tobias involvement (if only for the comic) in MK vs DCU and that studio gigante is (was?) part of Microsoft gaming studios. You would think there would be a push to try to aquire them from them at least.

I think WB buying midway would be a good thing.

Most of you are just looking at the toned down violence that was MK vs DCU, but not seeing that maybe aside of making money, WB had seen how well their property was treated and maybe they would use Midway as a house for future endeavours into games with specific characters or properties in mind?

Like DC based games handled internally that would ensure quality when released rather than licensing out the property to a company where anything could be pushed out the gate?

Aside of gaming, the merchandising aspects of it too come to mind. TV shows as mentioned, MK comics becoming regular and not mini series, with the money WB has, not much is limited in scope.

Ubisoft is a surprising candidate to buy Midway, wouldn't have thought they would go the extra mile and take on that kind of debt unless they really think there is potential in the properties Midway has.

Pessimist!!

Nah i agree. Unless they take a five-year gap like they did between MK4 and DA.

It would limit Midway to only first party titles, which aren't usually as profitable as multiplatform.

But on the flipside, Microsoft would cover any extra developmental/commercial costs.

Out of the 3, I would definitely have to say Warner Bros. should get it.
Warner Bros. worked with MK in the past anyway. MK vs. DC being one, but they were also one of the publishers for Mortal Kombat Conquest, the series.

I wouldn't trust UbiSoft with MK. I'm not too impressed with most of their games.

If Midway or the MK team went under, what effects would that have on this site? Do those companies fund MKO? And if so, does this mean MKO will shut down?

Let's face it, the only reason anybody is stoked about WB's interest, is because of what WB could do with the livense, movies, comics, tv show, whathaveyou. But this ignore's the fact that MK is a game first and foremost, to me WBI hasn't proved themselves as a viable studio yet.

Ubisoft is a company I've been championing for awhile now. After pulling off games like Assasin's Creed and Prince of Persia, I'm convinced they have the chops to resusitate the MK franchise.

If Midway ends up in the hands of yet another private investor from chicago Ill be done with the entire company. Why don't we just hand the keys over to Blagojovich as he's carted off to jail (I know stale reference)

As long as Namco or Capcom don't pick up the license I'll be stoked, I want to see what a new company can do with the fighting game set-up. Not just see what MK would look like with MK skins taped over Street Fighter or Tekken's engines.
