More Mortal Kombat Action Figures by Jazwares and Woobler heads by Funko!

Back in June we held an Exclusive Interview with Jazwares' Director of Product Development and Manager of Mortal Kombat, Joe Amaro, in which we covered the first wave of their Mortal Kombat action figures inspired on the new video game.

Over the last months Jazwares have been working hard releasing new action figures inspired on the 'Klassic Games' (MK1 and UMK3) as well as the latest game, MK(2011). Their products are 6" and 4" action figures of various characters including Jax, Baraka, Reptile, Smoke and Cyrax among others. Some of them, like their MK1 Ninja Multi Pack, come with extra accessories such as Friendship Dolls and alternate heads.

Syco Collectibles Spotlight: Noob Saibot, Rain, new Scorpion and more!

At the beginning of the summer, Mortal Kombat Online was proud to announce its affiliation with Syco Collectibles - a specialty manufacturer in licensed and proprietary collectible products who has recently acquired the Mortal Kombat licence for both Mortal Kombat 2011 and 'Klassic' Mortal Kombat's to manufacture highly-detailed and faithful Characters from our beloved franchise. With Part V of our Exclusive Syco Collectibles Feature on its way, this week we are happy to give you our third 'Character Spotlight' featuring teaser images of the 18" statues of 'The traitor of the Realm', Rain, and the 'Netherealm Specter', Scorpion:

Rain was revealed by Syco Collectibles after reaching the '700 Likes' mark on their Facebook. The 'Forgotten Prince' is featured in his well known and iconic Victory Pose and he will come surrounded by a whirlpool of water and waves sculpted with clear resin! He is one of a selected number of characters who will be featured in/with special and unique base designs. Our 'Rain Clues' have now been answered ("…he won't be thirsty"). Expect new updated pictures of his sculpture in the near future.

The 18" Scorpion sculpture was revealed by Syco Collectibles after reaching the '800 Likes' mark on their Facebook. The 'Undead Ninja' wants you to get over here as he is featured with his iconic deadly spear (made out of real chains) and flawless detail.

UPDATE: Syco Collectibles have now revealed their stunning paint master of Scorpion's 18" Premium Format Statue! Not only does he feature his iconic spear, he comes complete with an alternate (half) skull head, LED eyes, and detachable swords which can also be placed in his hands. If you are one of the lucky who pre-ordered the 10" Raiden statue and the 1:2 Scorpion Bust, you should know that both products will be finished and released between the 30th and 31st of December and begin shipment on January 2nd.

We are also happy to announce another great opportunity for MK fans everywhere: Syco Collectibles want to know YOUR personal thoughts and ideas for Noob Saibot's statue and pose!

While there is still a good amount of characters currently in development (Shao Kahn, Sonya Blade, Rain, Mileena, and Scorpion), Noob Saibot fans should be happy to know that he has been chosen as one of their new upcoming statues for 2012. Production on the evil 'Wraith' will begin within the early months of next year along side the much anticipated Motaro and another soon to be revealed fan-favorite (who could he be? Speculate here!).

You are encouraged to propose and share ideas about how you would like Syco Collectibles to sculpt and pose Noob Saibot in here. Syco Collectibles will take into account all of the proposed ideas and the most popular suggestions will be taken into consideration for his final design. MK Updates: IGN Top 100, Google Top 10, Fan-Film, Komplete Edition & more!

2011 has been a good year for Mortal Kombat and NetherRealm Studios. Not satisfied with the return of action figures, new high quality Statue Collectibles, special marketing commercials, a successful web-series, the confirmation of a new movie, being featured in various major Tournament Events and becoming the 'Best Selling Fighting Game of the year', the game has also been crowned the 'Best Fighting Game of the Year' by Spike's VGA, the Golden Joystick Awards, and the Official US Xbox Magazine among others.

Gaming website, IGN has made a list of their Top 100 Favorite Video Game Moments and Mortal Kombat's famous "FINISH HIM!" is featured among the top!

"Gruesome, yes, but Mortal Kombat's fatalities were never so over-the-top that they were genuinely disturbing. They were extravagant fullstops, ludicrous spectacles of splatter and gore. But they weren't always easy to execute. Back when Mortal Kombat was released, one couldn't just look up how to do them on the internet. Fatalities were discovered through trial and error, circulated between friends and published in magazines. Once the words "Finish Him" rang out and the screen dimmed, the pressure was on. Some were complicated, some were easy, but all required expert timing. Once perfected, there was no better way to humiliate a cocky friend or shock an unsuspecting relative at Christmas than by removing their spine like perfectly-steamed Dover sole."

IGN also featured Mortal Kombat in their Goriest and most violent games of 2011 video montage. Check out their Year in Violence.

Moving on, Google statistics revealed that Mortal Kombat is among the Top 5 Most Searched Games of 2011 ahead of games such as 'The Elder Scolls V', 'Mass Effect 3', and 'Battlefield 3'.

While little details of 'Mortal Kombat Vitality' and 'Mortal Kombat: KOMPLETE EDITION' have been revealed, both titles remain a mystery that is open to speculation and guessing. What we do know is that Ed Boon has stopped all the rumors concerning NRS "taking a long break" from Mortal Kombat. The team is currently working on MK-related and non-MK related games.

Finally, you might be interested in the following fan-made Film: Click here for video, information, and details. The project was created and produced by Northern Five Entertainment and features a couple of surprises (one relating to MK). Check out their video:

Mortal Kombat Wins Best Fighting Game at the 2011 Spike VGAs!

Tonight marked a big win for Netherrealm Studios, as Mortal Kombat took home the award for Best Fighting Game at the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards, beating out King of Fighters XIII, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, and WWE All Stars.  This is not the first major award the game has been awarded; It was also the recipient of Best Fighting Game of the Year at the 2011 Golden Joystick Awards [Full story], and crowned 'Fighting Game of the Year' by the Official US Xbox Magazine:

Winning a fight takes three things: the guts to face down your enemy, the intelligence to play it smart, and most importantly, the will to endure. This year saw plenty of beautiful brawlers, but, when the dust settled, the one with the most heart claimed the prize. Mortal Kombat, with its deep suite of modes and dogged devotion to its fanbase, made us love it - thus securing it its knockout victory.

Don't expect a new Mortal Kombat title anytime soon, however.  Co-creator and lead designer Ed Boon announced tonight that Netherrealm Studios is taking a hiatus from the series, and are currently focusing on an unannounced project.  This doesn't come as a surprise, as just this week the team released Batman: Arkham City Lockdown for iOS devices.  He also stated that there will be no additional downloadable content released for Mortal Kombat (2011).  The aforementioned news of a hiatus has since conflicted with a recent tweet Boon made via his Twitter Account:

"RT @Tyrant_Cenobite @noobde You really taking a hiatus from Mortal Kombat? Noobde: No. NetherRealm is working on MK and non-MK games! :)"

Congratulations to Netherrealm Studios for all their success this year!
