ahhhhh where did these threads go over the last few months?
Comedy at its best. Keep it up.
I wonder what the chance of Armageddon is being at E3
Boon: "Here you can see we've done extensive testing to make sure characters are balanced"
Random fan #1: Hey can me and Random fan #2 have a go and test its balancedness?
Boon: errrr sure...
**After Random #2 parries one combo Random #1 catches him in one and proceeds to use the exact same throw-strike-walk infinate with Smoke from Deception till the end of the fight, flawless victory**
Random #2: mmm yeah balanced.
**Everyone walks off**
Boon: Wait! wait! I've got to show you the KaK characters online! They're balanced! Honest!

"Menthol makes a good point - why would they keep the breakers AND add parries if combos could be parried mid-combo? Because if they did that then everybody would just parry their way out of combos instead of using breakers and breakers would just be completely pointless. The logic of this kind of lends itself to the theory that combo's WON'T be able to be parried mid way though, which is why we still have breakers, and that's really fucking disappointing. I really, really hope combos can be parried though, I guess we won't know until somebody plays the game. Here's hoping. But I could see Boon including both the parry and the breaker anyway, even if one of them is rendered useless by the other. Just because he does things like that. "
No dude. Breakers would still be a neccessity. When I said being able to parry mid combo, I meant that you block the initial hit and then parry afterward.
For example, I am Smoke and you are Sub-Zero
You do dragon 1,2,u+4
I block the 1,2 and right when you're about to do u+4 I let go of block and parry.
That is what I am talking about.
Breakers will still be a neccessity for when you don't block the intial hit: you will need a way to get out of the combo just like you did in MKD.

I call it proving a point with use of a very possible example.
Why? What seems to be the problem?

That would be my own preference on how to implement it. I won't be happy if you don't get some form of advantage from parries though. In an ideal world I'd get that split-second advantage from successfully using it, but not long enough so that they just stand there just in some stupid stagger animation.
Like Jin's parry where they carry on with the combo and I could stop it whenever.

I'll give it a shot.
OK, lets say the reversal and breakers are in. Breaker is mid combo. So at the earliest the second hit in a combo. That's fine.
Now the parry/reversal: is that a command input like 3rd strike or is it a button +direction like DOA? Cause (and I know this won't happen but the MKA in my world should have this) if it was DOA style reversals I would love to be able to buffer that shit.
All they would have to do is what they did in DOA4 and chop the open frame window. How many frames was the MKDA reversal by chance? Chop that shit to 1/3 of the MKDA reveral and you' have some fun as fuck mind games which would lead to a more poking game like some of you want so much.
Also WTF is up with the change in the jump?

I suppose they're trying to make it closer to a 2d kinda jump. We'll see.

Traveling Wilbury, it is way too early to come to that assumption. The same engine only means it won't be anything insanely new like say MK 8 will be or something. However, they can still fix the problems that were in Deception.
Also, I believe it was bloodline666.I see your point when you said that MK needs work to compete with other fighters from a gameplay point of view of late. That's true with MK:DA, and MKD not with MK series in general though.
MK, MK2, MK3, and UMK3 were among the best MK's gameplay wise and in general. These games make the MK series one of the best fighting series ever.
I'm looking at it from a series point of view not an of late point of view since people mentioned other fighters.
MK 7 is adding some oldschool elements that I believe will really help this next MK.

Okay... okay.... -sigh- I'd like to say this: Looks can be decieving. Just because the gameplay may look bad to you, doesn't mean it is. It has yet to have been released at all to be played by anyone. When E3 comes... we'll see and that wont even be the final version. When October strolls around and we actually have the game in our consoles then I'll probably except thread a little more. I understand its an opinion (of quite a few...) but know one knows for sure how the gameplay will be at the end. I mean... we can all guarentee that it wont be as good as many fighting games...but... it'll more then likely (i think i just risked my neck just by saying more then likely) have better gameplay then MK:D.

Well we're just going off track-record, this time before Deadly Alliance we said it looked shit and it turned out shit.
In this case of Deception at this stage of it's "development" people could see the same problems from DA hadn't been fixed, and that's how it stayed for released.
Not much hope for this one. Will be very surprized if anything major is improven upon. But atleast this time they're making an effort.

yeah, I know but u never kno. That extra effort from the MK Team might actually improve something. Anything! Somethings gotta be improved one way or another

Correct me if I'm wrong (as usual), but is this the kind of stuff we'll be seeing:
Player A has initial combo hit trapped with a parry. Player B launches A and continues to attack A in the air. Player A parries an attack in the assault and smashes B to the ground. Back to square one.
Player A attacks. At the third combo hit, B uses a breaker. Players forced apart. Back to square one.

YES!!!! I found proof that you could do parries in mid-combo! In the vid you can see people fighting in the air, and eventually a character blcoked a move! Beleive me, it wasn't a breaker. They usually say breaker near the spot where the breaker occurs, but they don't! Parries in mid-combo! yay

Yeah, I do actually. Not for nothing but some of you people don't want improvement, you want perfection.Good luck with that.No game is perfect, every game has flaws as someone else mentioned every fighter has it's ups and downs.

You're right. The question now is whether or not air combat is canned or strung. It looks retarded-strung, like MK4 air cancels and shit - which I liked. A few options could exist.
What looked to be a parry was performed on hit, too; similar to a breaker...which is odd, due to it being an un-convential use of a "parry", which really wouldn't be a parry so much as a "out.". I don't give a shit about convention, as long as it works. That's what I'm still worried about, though, lol.
If you only ever play the computer, you never have to worry about this sort of thing.
