I'm guessing Jax, Sonya, Cyrax, and the rest of the outworld investgation agency are busy recovering from the damages they suffered in MKDA. All their portals were destroyed, Cyrax needs repairs from his lava bath helping Nitara, and the agency headquarters are in ruins from Hsu Hao's bombing. Quite alot of setbacks.

i think the classic characters are the cornerstone of the series. im very skeptical about all these new characters. in a way i feel like they waste space, MK4 is a perfect example of how new characters dont catch once a franchise like this has been established. in this game i think leaving Cage, Sonya and Raiden out is a bad idea. these are characters who have been there since the beginning. these characters were also voted as part of the top 10 characters of all time, thats gotta be sayin somethin about their importance to this franchise.

Who is exactly new... there are more fan favorites returning than new characters. Raiden, Sonya, Kano, Cage, and Jax all had their run in the 3d world and in the storyline for DA, now its time for a new, darker, more evolved story plot to see where it takes other favorite characters. With people returning like Noob Saibot, Baraka, Ermac, etc. im anxious to know how the story unfolds for once with out the true classics like Cage, Sonya, etc returning.. The only thing I dont understand is why take away Raiden?... Regardless playable or not everyone of the true classics will be involved in the story, but I think out of everyone of those classics, Raiden is the must have character to play... hes the most neccessary out of the bunch. Cage, Jax, Kano, Sonya... they can sit this one out, time to make room for evolution.

i agree with you. i can live w/o Cage and Sonya, but i'd have really hard time swallowing Raiden's absence. one of things i always look forward to in a new MK game is moving that rectangular area, called select box, to Raiden's face, hitting a button, and hearing the words "Raiden" pronounced with that cool oh-so-MK voice. Then seeing Raiden's new look, his new moves, new fatalities, kicking a#$ with him. That's half the fun of playing MK for me. Without Raiden, i don't think i can enjoy an MK game quite as much. i remember MK3 and how i desperately kept scrolling through characters lloking for the familiar Thunder God face, but to no avail. i don't want to experience the same feeling again. you hear that Midway??? i want my Raiden back! Or i am going to be really mad.

Well, see, that's how a lot of us feel about Sonya and Cage, well for me it's mostly Sonya.

in my opinion they need diversity in the roster, Cage definitely adds that. and just like many people are huge fans of Raiden, Scorpion, etc...im a huge fan of Johnny Cage, hes been one of my favorites since the first MK. i think this goes for most of the characters from the first 2 games especially, theyre the ones that got this thing rolling, excluding them hurts the game. sure some of you want a dark story, why cant it include the likes of Cage and Sonya?

I have no problems with Cage/Sonya/Jax personally, its just they have been in virtually every MK game and if I had to choose between seeing them again for the 8000th+ time or seeing classic character that have already sat out for a few games I'd like to see someone different.

Alot people's favorites are excluded time and time again such as Smoke, Kabal, Ermac, etc. Its about time some other people have the characters they want in for once. Cage, Sonya, and Jax certainly have had plenty of turns already and will likely get more than their fair share of appearences in the future as well.

Well, if Sonya isn't in it, they must have Tanya because she and Sonya had basically the same moves, same fatalities, and same name (almost). The only differences were that Sonya was a white woman and Tanya was black. The other difference was that Tanya was one of the female ninjas from Edenia, and Sonya was from an agency in the US. Another hint that Tanya may be in Deception is the next MK movie. Tanya is one of the cast characters, so...maybe she'll be replacing Sonya...maybe she won't. We'll just have to see.

The way I see it, Deception is a darker story, you need a roster of characters that fit this darker, grittier, mystical, back stabbing type of plot... The so far mentioned confirmed characters fit the bill nicely... Noob Saibot, Baraka, Ermac, Kabal, Scorpion, SubZ (new darker edgier look),... and thats only the begining as far as we know. Theres a rumored vampire, Shokan, and a whole bunch more fighters not yet confirmed, and im sure they will fit the darker bill as well.

MKDA was more... i dont know the word, ummm, lighter? The setting wasnt as brooding, the plot wasnt as dark and decepting (at least compared to MK:D apparently)... with the evolution of the story into Deception must come the roster that goes with it appropriatly...

Sonya, Jax, and Cage to me just dont fit the type of roster needed for this story. In my opinion in order to stay fresh and not so stale (as they are begining to become with their appearence in every damn MK game) they need to somewhat be mentioned but not playable. Then when MK7 arrives, you can then evolve their story in MK:D's after math...

Raiden is the only character for some reason that NEEDS to be in almost every MK game as a playable character, because hes the core of the good guys. Hes one of the main pieces of the puzzle. He plays too big of a part in the MK universe to sit out. But, as goes the same reasons Sonya, Cage, Jax need to stay out to retain their "freshness", I guess the same could apply to Raiden as well. But if anyone should come back out of the original classics, its Raiden over anyone by far.. Fan favorite or not, hes just to important to the storyline.

DoomBringer...i agree that Deception, so far, comes across as a darker game than Deadly Alliance. however, that doesnt mean every character has to be dark and mysterious to fit in. i would argue that MK 2 was much darker than the first MK but characters like Cage fit in nicely. if they gave his storyline an overhaul to fit the dark mood of the game hed be a great addition because as a fighter hes one of the best characters in my opinion, some of the best combos, special moves and fatalities in the games.

Ed Boon says Liu Kang was like the Luke Skywalker of the series...if thats case id have to make an argument that Johnny Cage is the Han solo (since he used the star wars analogy). hes like the antihero...the one who seems like he cares less but in reality really does.

a good story revamp that would allow Cage to fit in nicely could surround his death and resurrection. two other posters on this board, queve and grizzle, have come up with really good ideas revolving around this. what could be the consequences of cheating death, could this be applied to the dragon king somehow, perhaps he could be hiding something behind his sunglasses (white eyes like Scorpion). i thought these ideas were great and definitely fit the mood that Deception is building.

wtf is this 100% confirmed?? that cage, sonya, jax, kano, n raiden wont be in the game???..i never read that anywhere.... hmm i know kung lao will be in it hes the new luke skywalker of mk now..so he has to be in it..

Im not saying the characters HAVE to be of darker nature... I said, so far, it appears that the roster is turning out to be more on the darker side due to the path MK:D story is going... The roster has alot more anti-heroes and villains rather than the majority being solid good guys. In MKDA, there are 11 good guys... now for MK:D it appears they're switching it up this time.

As for Cage... to be honest, I never liked the guy, I always thought him to be too plain next to characters such as Scorpion, Raiden, Shang Tsung, or Sub-Zero. I mean who wants to play as an average joe movie star who knows how to fight, rather than a ninja spectre or god of thunder?? And I never pictured, or even considered, Cage as an anti-hero... theres alot better characters that fit that description. Kabal, Sub-Zero the 5th, Scorpion, for example. I consider Cage to be on the side of good if anything. It even says it in bold letters as his MKDA allignment.

when i used anithero its was a typo, hes a good guy but not in the same way liu kang is, thats what i was tryin to convey, sorry for the goof up. as far as this topic is concerned, everyone will have different opinion regarding who they want to be present in the game. some fans like these characters you speak, however, there also those that like the characters like Cage and Sonya. i think it would be better to have a diverse cast which appeal to all fans of the game...those that like the deep characters like you do and those that like the flashy colorful characters like me.

Okay, you're just overreacting. They have not been confirmed to come back or not come back. As time and E3 comes, we'll see who will and will not return, so really, you guys who say "I know for a fact that they won't be returning", you're either Ed Boon and John Vogel's best friend, or you're stupid enough to jump to conclusions and say it as if you are so high in knowledge that you know it.

I am sorry NIghtwolf deserved a turn, so does Sindel Kabal, and Ermac. They only got one chance. Now in my opinion if Ermac is back I dont think Kenshi should be. I mean I love the guy but you dont need both. And I would like to see Mavado and Kabal go at it, but I dont wanna see Raiden out cause he really revolves around MK.

They need Raiden and they need one more old school girl in the mix like a Jade or Sheeva. Sheeva would fit perfect with Goro dying. And Shao should be in this too, and cause this game seems like a fan wagon I have a feeling he will be. So Boon knows what to do, but I hope he doesnt choose the wrong ones just for the fans.

Kahn will be back one form or another, but Sheeva is long dead, and is one character who must remain dead.

I can understand some sitting out because they don't fit in, but Kano?

Kano is almost pure deception. His entire story seems to revolve around stabbing some one in the back. How can they do Deception without Kano?

I do agree with you. I hope that Kai comes back. As for the classic characters, that has yet to be seen if they r not returning. So don't get your hopes up yet.

People are getting carried away with the stroyline again.
If you want a good read then pick up a book from your local bookshop. or if your not into reading books then play an RPG.
I repeat myself Mortal Komabt is a fighting game the story line should not be taken so seriously, what should be taken seriously is the fighting mechanics and Boon should include the classic characters( Rayden, Sonya and Cage) for their fighting styles and moves. Sonya is the Nina/Sarah/Chun-li of Mortal Komabt and she should be in this game.
Im happy with the current cast except for the over abundance of Ninjas but the “new” character line up is a bit scary, eight slots for new faces is a bit much. I mean most of the new characters in Deadly alliance were lame( Mavado, Nitara, Hsu whatever Bo rai choo lei mei) with a few exceptions. It also apllies to MK4 where the new cast was weak.
Ed shoudl be very carefull when deciding who to include and who to exclude.
A fighting game always sticks to their main roster of characters and then builds upon what theyve got.

Cyrax isnt dead...hes part of a story with Sonya, Jax, AND Kenshi...Kenshi is back, Sonya n Jax will either be dead or disappear...which is the only legitimate reason for Cyrax to not be in it as opposed to Smoke and Sektor...

i still dont see how Sektor or Smoke has more of a chance then Cyrax...when none have been confirmed, Cyrax was in the recent games by himself, he is now considered the respresentative of MK3, and he aint dead...y would Sektor or Smoke show up and Cyrax not?

i understand its possible if he dies in the beginning of MKD, or he 'disappears' but nobody knows if thats even going to happen...therefore there is no reason for Sektor or Smoke to have a better chance in most peoples minds, then Cyrax, except for the reason of general favoritism...

Cage is prolly going to die, same with Sonya and Jax, but I dont see them ALL dying at the beginnin of MKD...so someone has to make it, or like mentioned before, a big 'disappearance', of characters that people whine about, could happen...

im still looking for the point of Smoke returning, nobody has brought up actual evidence besides guesses and favoritism...and like i said, if he has a good chance of returning how can the other two not??? hes not half important as they are...i dunno

i doubt that excluded characters like Cage, Sonya, and Raiden will die. i think theyll be used in the next game or as part of the subplot.
