Well, Sheeva is a Shokan that's probably why she looks buff and stronger than the other females in MK.

If you think about it, there aren't even romances shown in MK between Heterosexual couples. Yes, we know Liu likes Kitana, but aside from MKSM, it's never actually shown. You don't get a cutscene with Liu chatting up Kitana in the main series, hell, in the MK4 ending he politely declined her offer. The characters are more concerned with other things (with the possible exception of Mileena) so it can as always, remain a background story detail.
I say no displayed romance at all. Other character traits are far more interesting.

Actually can anyone show me where in any game it says Liu likes Kitana and vice versa (movie doesn't count) and also Cage/Sonya. Mileena/Baraka.
I can't remeber if it ever said anything about these characters. I know I learned of their romances from the film (with the exception of Mileena/Baraka.) If it did say so somewhere can someone please show me and I'll gladly shut up.
I don't see romances as being completely nesecarry in MK, hetero or homo or whatever.

There probably is a homosexual fighter in MK, it just hasnt been stated, even bisexual. I'm sure Shao Kahn is pansexual [male, female, transexual etc attrations], he looks the type that would stick it into anybody [ ]. Again, we dont even know much about the other worlds, Edenia and Outworld, could incredibly bisexual in their nature, or whatever, we just don't know. Sure it would be nice to know officially who is gay or bi or whatever for random trivia knowledge, but its only a fighting game.. if you depseratly want to know about their sexualities, just let your mind wander.

Personally I think it is great to have a gay character in MK. I dont think that it needs to be the main thing about them... but more of an incidental. Mortal Kombat has some of the best looking characters in any fighting game... The only problem I find with MK at times is that the characters lack depth which sometimes makes the storylines weak. Certain characters seem to be going around in circles (eg Jade, Tanya, Reptile, Johnny Cage, Sonya, Jax etc etc) and dont seem to be going anywhere... it would be nice to give them some depth and show some sort of development. I am not suggesting to make them gay... Im just saying it would be nice to give them new angles and layers.
MK has people of all sorts of Backgrounds, and with 60 characters... in real life... most likely atleast one of them (most likely more) would be gay or lesbian.
So far in MK we have all sorts of diverse people catered for:
Black people - Jax, Darrius etc
Native Americans - Nightwolf
Asian - Lui Kang etc
Women - Kitana, Sonya etc
Overweight people - Bo Rai Cho
People dealing with disabilities - Kenshi (no sight), Jax (arms cut off)
Old people - Shujinko
Mental illness - Darrius (killed people in a fit of rage), Nightwolf (had to stay away from people due to him being out of control)
Families - Kitana, Sindel etc
etc etc
On top of this... other things I would like to see include:
- human characters from other countries then just USA and asia.
- Religious "Priest" type character or fantatics
- A couple in a relationship

Jax didnt had his arms cut off, those are bionic implants. An implant is an artificiallz inserted piece of various equipment. In the case of Jax, I think it is armor, some equipment to cause resonations (his sonic boom move, plus, vibrations can cause minor tremors in solid matter mostly in popular fiction)
Dairou is not mentally ill. At least once murder doesn't necessarily mean mental derangement. Nor psychopathologic behavior. Other people-> from Asia..well I think Kai can come from the Indonesian section or Micronesia and the other segments of the Pacific.
A greek or norwegian character could be another good addition, example: a greek who utilizes greco-roman pacratium and phyrmomachia.

Who's saying they want to see the romances actually played out in the game? I'm not, I know that. I'm just saying it would be nice if they could add more to the characters than a basic personality. Do something to make them deeper, you know, actual characters.

1. don't matter what the orintation of the charactors is, although if they wanted to add in a same sex romace to flesh out the story that would be fine, and no I don't mean nude scences and crap like that, think kitana liu kang style, only either two guys, two girls or one of each type of couple
2. I don't really see the god characters has having any sexual preferance at the moment, fujin is to serious, shinnok is too evil and uncaring and raiden, well he is just too tempermental imo
3. For some reason, I keep thinking of stryker as an super religous person, worshiping raiden, I don't know why, my brain is wierd like that

Yes, having it as a plot detail would be fine. As long as there is no limp MKSM style romances, that'll be fine by me.
Though, as I've said, there are other ways of making a deep, interesting character besides exploring their sexuality. I mean, ripping guts and heads is one thing, but actually allowing characters to display physical affection?

i think the only way a gay fighter would work in the mk universe is if there was just as much focus on story as there is on fighting. making a gay character just for the sake of having one there is pointless. the idea of a female fighter was once just as ludicris as a gay fighter. girls were weak and only used in games or movies as kidnapped damsels in distress. that sounds stupid now, but that was accepted at one time. the gay character issue is the same thing. it's a big deal now, but eventually we'll be saying how stupid it was to make a big deal out of it (i mean as far as games go. there is still a lot of ignorance in real life). considering the fact that most of the human characters fit into some minority category (ethnic or women), i can see a gay character fitting in quite comfortably among all the violence and gore.
