I am not familiar with DC (or comics period).
But I do know SOME characters - the main ones I suppose.

I would think that Mr. Freeze (or is it Mr Frost?) has more of a connection with Sub-Zero simply due to their ice abilities, right?

What lines are they drawing to connect Batman with Sub-Zero?
I just don't see it. If this has been addressed in a previous thread, please redirect me (trying to dig through all these damn threads is like the needle in a haystack scenario).

Thanks in advance.

Similar characters in personality and essence, I suppose.

It's not their abilities, It's their personalities.

For instance, both Sub-Zero and Batman are heroes that have been on the teetering edge of sanity (UMK3, Sub-Zero relentlessly hunted, Batman's family murdered) and both are heroes that prefer to work alone and have failed ar being teachers(Sub-Zero failed at teaching Frost, and Batman failed at teaching Jason Todd)...But most importantly, Batman is the most recognizable DC hero, and Sub-Zero is the most recognizable MK hero.

I said personality. Not origin.

Batman: cold, driven, distant character who follows his own personal philosphy.

Sub-Zero: cold, driven, distant character who follows his own personal philosophy.

Better Batman and Sub-Zero. I'm still trying to wrap my head around Scorpion against Superman.

Well, one's a boyscout last survivor of an alien planet who spends most of his time as mild-mannered Clark Kent and works as a journalist for a newspaper company to hide his pajama-wearing past-time; and Scorpion is an undead ninja spectre seeking vengeance on the man who killed him.

Both are carbon-based lifeforms, I guess. It's a start.

Scorpion is a posterboy of Mortal Komat and Superman is a posterboy of DC. That's all I can think of. In terms of personality, Liu Kang is closer to Superman.

Yeaa, they're both "Clint Eastwood//Dirty Harry" types.

Good guys with quite the loner edge

EDIT: That actually makes me wonder about other character match-ups..
hm..

Superman and Pre MKD Raiden have more in common. Both watch over Earth, and both aren't human. I guess that's something. meh, Liu Kang probably works better personality wise.

Just because boon annoucned the 2 most popular MK characters and the 2 most popular DC characters doesn't mean they're all counterparts

Obviously Batman and Sub-Zero are counter-parts, but I'd imagine Raiden and Superman are counter-parts. The whole "watchful eye over the whole damn world kinda thing" fits Raiden better than Scorpion

I'd say Scorpion would match up well with Deathstroke, the lone cole killer out for vengance.

I would say Batman and Subzero both adhere to a good without inhibitions. A no-bullshit system of ethics.

I can see...

Kitana & Wonder Woman-
Obviously both warrior princesses. They're also similar in terms of personality...except Wonder Woman is a warmer and more compassionate character, whereas Kitana is a colder and more melancoly character.

Shang Tsung & Lex Luthor-
Pompous, conniving, mastermind characters. Both are archenemies of pure heroic characters. The other character I can see Tsung paired with is Circe.

Shao Kahn & Darkseid-
Supreme evil and uber-powerful godlike characters. Kahn rules Outworld, Darkseid rules Apokalips.

Sonya Blade & the Huntress or Power Girl or Hawkgirl-
Brash, out-tempered, tough chick characters.

Quan Chi & the Joker-
Pastey faced, sadistic, nihilistic characters.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I actually think Sub-Zero/Batman's getting more credit that it deserves.
Sure, it's not a huge stretch, but for some reason most people got carried away with the idea Stryker's MKA ending was more Punisher than the character that inspired Punisher; Batman.
I could be wrong, but I don't remembre the ending described Stryker as an indescriminate killer of law breakers.

Because you just know everyone would line-up to see Batman fight Stryker. Mmm, next up - Hsu Hao v Superman! HEADLINER!

The ones I agree with:

Sub-Zero/Batman
Quan Chi/Joker
Raiden (pre MKD) or Fujin/Superman
Kenshi or Ermac/Green Lantern
Shao Kahn/Darkseid
Kitana/Wonder Woman
Reptile/Killer Croc
Shang Tsung/Lex Luthor
Sonya/Hawkgirl
Scorpion/Spectre

Here’s the same topic, but a little earlier

i guess that midway are trying to match each character up with their popularity to the world, for example the superman nd scorpion, the two most popular character of both sides, without these 2 characters the two sides would lose major supoort.

Scorpion and Batman seem more similar than Bats and Subs....Scorpion and Bats both lost their families, both seek vengeance..though I'll concede that Batman won't kill...For all intents and purposes, Batman is a ninja, too.

I'm guessing fairly similar to what MK has been the past few years. That's how it looks anyway.

As for match-ups I think that Zatanna would actually make a good counterpart or rival to a sorceror like Shang Tsung or Quan Chi. Black Canary and Sindel pair up in terms of their major screaming powers. Supergirl or Huntress would work well against Sonya.

There are a lot of good matchups that I want to see. smile
