As an avid gamer, I dip my hand into many different genre's of the gaming world. It seems that FPS's and RPG's always get the best voice actors ... even movie stars. I realize that dialogue isn't as important in a fighter as it is in these types of games, BUT ...... wouldn't it be awesome to hear ... say Michael Clark Duncan as the voice of Jax or Shao Kahn. Or even Don LaFontaine(the movie previews guy) as the narrator. Voice and sound is very important to any type of game no matter what genre it fits into. Just a thought though. What do you think?

All the voices that are in the game are good enough.I don't think additions to the game's 'voice acting' would be neccesary. What I do think might be a better addition is if they get several people to make different screams for every character on the roster. It would make the character a little bit more unique.

I don't like seeing and hearing Scorpion and Chameleon sounding alike. That dulls the character itself. The scream should differ depending on the characters' attitude.

different voices for every character are very important. Conditional sounds such as screaming and groaning in different ways when you get hit in different areas would be a nice bonus. Each character needs his/her own voice. I do agree with you on that. I was think that actual actors would bring a bit of a legit feel to the audio of the game.

Of course you would have to match voices with the type of character. Besides, Tom Cruises scientology beliefs wouldn't allow him to lend his voice to a game like this. Lol.

Voice acting is extraordinarily important if you really want to make a good and believable character. The problem with MK is that they never put in any effort in this area. You've got characters sharing voices all over the place which is honestly a cheap cop out. Sound is just as important as visuals. If you've got two completely different characters like Li Mei and Sonya in Armageddon and give them the exact same voice it doesn't make much sense.

Another thing is that the MK charaters never talk aside from random retarded gibberish while they fight. You never get to see their personalities in game. You always have to rely on bios and other bullshit.

If you take a look at any other fighting game out there you actually learn just as much about the characters while in the middle of a fight as you do in the instruction manual. You have to have good voice actors that can give personality to the characters.

Like MK characters now? Wait until you actually see them talking and sounding like they should in-game. It will make you like them even more.

YES You'd realize how important it is when you paly Dead or Alive

Helena has the voice that defines her character, Christie does also, Bayman, Busa, and a bunch more. Voices really define a character.

If Helena ever got a new voice actor, it simply would not be the same.

Voice acting can really breathe life into otherwise generic or bland characters.

You look at Tekken, and every character speaks in their own regional dialect, such as British accents, Japanese, Russian, whatever. Or look at Soul Calibur, where the voice acting was commendable enough that they have "voice samples" in the character profile pages where you can listen to each and every line they speak, every grunt and groan, very death scream and battle cry. It's great.

One of my big little problems with the MK games is the recycled generic battle grunts and attacks. When I'm fighting against another character and I hear the same sound come out of both several times, it takes me out of the game and makes the characters appear sort of lifeless, cookie-cutter, and forgettable. If they're unique, and they sound unique, they stand out more and are more memorable.

Oh absolutely, it's extremely important for any game with a decent story element, to have adequate voice acting.

I don't think you need to get star power in there, but it would do nothing but compliment a future movie if they did go this way.

Besides, MK's story element is so evident anyway. Considering the age of MK as a franchise, I'm surprised we haven't seen more variety, more natural speaking characters, and motion capture acting in there by now.

Hell, get me in there(lol) I know what I'm doing behind expressive script and a microphone.

They need to give these characters more personality within the fight of the game.

Although it's not in the top list of priorities, I do think that for overall presentation, good voice acting (as well as dialogue) would help nicely. This is something MK still hasn't quite had yet. To me, Tekken 5 has the best voice acting out of the fighting games I've played. MK has a lot to learn from it. I like how the various characters in Tekken 5 speak their native languages, save for the likes of Nina, Anna, and maybe some others. MK could pull it off given the right people, good effort, etc. However, chances are they won't really do such things.

It's funny you mention voices since I'm very familiar with this topic being that I want to become a voiceactor some day for cartoons or games whatever...and can do many impressions, voices and tones.

Personally it is important but you won't see big names like that, Don is great for narrating and commercials.

MCD though umm I don't know If I'd choose him for Jax, if you want a big name for Jax go for Will Smith or Denzel.

Shao Kahn, someone like my voice would be good honestly which is deep and sinister sounding. Steve Richie should stay the voice of Kahn, notice for the 3D games they changed his grunts, and laughs but kept Richies taunts if you listen closely "Bow Down to Me" "Is that your best" etc when you taunt with him.

I'd love to do the Announcer voice, I have youtube vids impersonating many voices some of which the MK voice perfectly hehe.

My only beef in an MK game with voice acting so far was MKD's konquest...notice it's so much better in MKA, but sounded so dull at times in MKD's konquest but MKA did much better.

As for grunts, moans etc I think MK is among the best at that personally.

Like Garlador, I also feel I am taken out of the game and like Sub-Zero said, voice acting is not in my top priorities either, but it wouldn't hurt if alot of characters had a distinct sound to their voice instead of sharing them.

I think I will always hold on to the ideals that the top 3 priorities for an MK game are in this order.

1. Good gameplay
2. Realistic blood/gore (this includes fatalities)
3. Good graphics (graphics are important but are not as important as the first 2)

So far I have yet to see the top 2 in the same MK game. I'm specifically singling out the blood content by the way.

yes but the mk team is lazy and i hope and feel that mk8 will be a good step in the direction for the future of the franchise. tekken and soul calibur have great voice acting for a fighting game and if mk had this it would make me want to go back and play it again.

just make the voices sound different and unique for each fighter, maybe have the actor who played scorpion in the first mk movie become the voice of scorpion for mk8. just an idea. what do you think.

The voice of Scorpion in the MK1 movie IS the voice of Scorpion in the games... and that voice is co-creator Ed Boon's. :P

You know what'd be cool is if one of the characters, as they get in some nicely visualized combo...they belt out obscenities.

"I told you...not to...step in the ring...or I'ma beat that ass like you stole something"

ect ect heh...something more offensive than that, but along that vein. Solidify all the taunting going on. Take it to the next step of whatever.

They're not lazy, they're just taking their time and worrying about actual important elements first as oppose to more trivial ones..., like others said honestly it's fun and always good to have good voice acting but shouldn't be their #1 priority...it's been good enough in MK games for the most part with the exception of MKD's konquest, everything else though it's been good enough.

Voice acting doesn't make the game, gameplay, story and replay value do. Voice acting is just a bonus, besides most MK's have moans, grunts and stuff like that in which they're way better then Tekken or SC.

The voice actor who played Scorpion in the first movie was Ed Boon's voice dubbed, read the credits at the end of the MK movies. It's Ed's voice slightly altered, as the same as the games. Not many people or fans know thatwink
