MK vs DC artist Bernard Beneteau Interview
MK vs DCU has come and gone. That's fine and dandy, but for the artists, game developers, and curious fans, Pixologic.com has an interview with one of the artist of the game. His stuff is good, he's very insightful, and I think it'd be worth a read. He did some models for Baraka and Raiden, amongst others. He also confirms he's working on the next MK game!

Now that is a render worthy of a next gen engine.
He didn't looked that polished in the game itself.

Nice, looks a lil bit better then the in game but in game Baraka has never looked better in MKDC. He even drools if you notice lol

Cool interview. Very detailed looking renders and models there. Glad he's on the MK team, and I can't wait to see a mature rated Mortal Kombat game on this generation of systems.

There we go.
I love how detailed he explains his process. Gives a good sense of the end product that he ends up with, as opposed to the product that makes it into the game. It also gives me a great sense of my style, and the look that I'm going for when I'm thinking, and trying to create a character (I know I haven't shown much work on MkO, but that will change soon enough).
Still, I can't help but wonder what the hell happened with those "in-game engine" renders that we received pre-release? Why did they give us such sub-par next-gen work to look at? Why are those renders the mainstay representatives for this game on the MkvsDc website, if we have great artists like Bernard on the roster?
I mean, considering his work flow and workload that he talks about, I'd expect much, MUCH better than what was presented pre-release.
I think those should have come out at least a little bit better than they did, I just don't get it. It's probably that type of "process" though. Something I still have yet to be exposed to. At the same time, I hope I respect people like his work enough, because I know now more than ever that I am not a character modeler. I'm conceptual, and an animator like crazy.

On another note, I'm happy to find out that he's the one who helped design Raiden. I didn't love it, but I like it alot. Considering that he's not the concept artists, he did a great job with the idea with my main man Raiden.
And another thing, I'm also happy to hear that he's on deck for the next MK. Let's hope nothing terminal happens to the MkTeam in the meantime.
Lord knows they gotta make the next one fantastic.

Amazing modeling!!
I would love to see the rest of the MK characters in renders like that.
Specially the characters who ended up looking incredible in-game and in the story mode such as Sonya (beautiful), Jax (fantastic), Shang Tsung (very cool) and the ninjas (well designed).
It would also be cool to see the DC cast. I’m particularly interested in Green Lantern (very very cool), Joker (incredible), Captain Marvel (I actually loved him in the game) and Catwoman (very well done!).

No reason to fear, court few days ago allowed Midway and MK team to make MK9 and work on future MK projects. So either way, despite Midway's future there WILL be another MK game by MK team we all know. What happens after that who knows...
That stuff looks really amazing. Nice find Garlador. I would add one word of caution to the mk team. Don't over complicate the designs. Don't give all the characters shoulder pads, loin clothes, and gigantic champion sized wrestling style belts.
I think Scorpin for instance would have been better served without the shoulder pads. It was I felt a rather needless add on. Baraka looks perfect to me. Armor is appropriate for some characters but not all of them.
Don't clutter up the designs please. Keep it simple.
