People are misreading the article. It's the author of the article speculating that Midway were alluding to MK8 in their press release.

The official press release on Midway's website makes no mention of MK8 specifically.

But the official press only talks about past and present (incluiding the recent anouncement of "This Is Vegas"), but Zucker in the conference talk more than this, talk about the future games (like TNA Impact, that will be released in 2-3 months...), and said a Mortal Kombat game in 2008. Yeah, he didn't said specifically MK8, but if not MK8 in 2008, then another spin-off/remake will appear in the nexts months of nowhere...

This is possible, but if Zucker said "Mortal Kombat game" and "2008" in the same phrase, this confirms in a 99% that the MK8 is still planned to release in the Q4 2008...

Another reason all those people who SAID mk8 will be delayed should shame themselves into a corner. Shows you know not what you are talking about.

In the official press release they do talk about Midway's outlook for 2008. Also in the Gamespot article, Zucker is not quoted as saying "Mortal Kombat in 2008" However in the official press release there is this interesting line.

"Mr. Zucker concluded, "We expect 2008 to be a significant year for Midway, with more front-line releases than 2007, including some ambitious new intellectual properties with broad market appeal, reinvigorated franchises with well-established fan bases"

The gamespot author could have easily took this to be a hint at MK8 despite there being no direct reference to it.

Also I can't seem to access the conference call, so I don't know if MK is mentioned in that. If I can get access to the call, I'll let you know if he mentions a new MK game.
