When it came to fighting games at E3 I must say that to me Mortal Kombat Deception was the most disappointing. What also came to me as a surprise is that the developers thought they had listened to us and made the proper changed to the game. Yes, we do now have many level Fatalities and each characters has more that one fatality. It is also cool that if you don't want your opponent to finish you, you can now kill yourself before you opponent has the chance. But I think we can all agree that the real problem with the game is the choppy game play, lack of a fluid combo system, and when your character attracts (kicks and punches) they don't really seem to be hitting who they are fighting (they seem to be pushing them).
The development team at Midway needs to take a very close attention to SNK and King of Fighter "Maximum Impact". That game is one of the smoothest 3D fighters I have ever played.
I guess the point that I am trying to make is that Midway should focus in on the week core game play and not try to fluff everything else up.

I agree a little bit. I dont like the new fighting system, and I hate the fact that u push rather than hit... although this time they sped up the fighting a little bit, it's still too choppy... these last 2 games are not like the others MK, where u needed to be fast with your fingers and mind to be able to win, now this tekken-like system doesn't really fit the MK franchise and its a little boring to tell the truth...
Even so.. I still think that the character repertoir is one of the most interesting ones in a mortal kombat (Loved ones like baraka next to hated ones like tanya and li mei... I'm exited to see what they've done to the last 2)... so it seems like a better game than DA weven though thew fighting dynamics are still weak

Everyone always complains. You guys have to realize that it was just an early build, Everything will be sorted out in the next 5ive months.
But it feels more like Tekken huh? Well...
Tekken + Mortal Kombat = God of fighting games!

I was at E3 and I actually spent time with some of the people of Mortal Kombat online at the Midway booth on Friday.
I understand that the game still has until October until it is released. It is tough to change the system as much as I think it needs to make it competitive (or at least the same quality). I will say that the way the game is it will still sell 2.5million copies. I will still buy it which is horrible but I am such a MK fan that I can't stop myself.
The fact that the fight system is below par really bugs me though.
You are also right that the MK character line-up is one of the best. I just wish we could play as these characters the way we would like too.
I do also agree MK + Tekken + Soul Caliber + best game ever.
I do think that with 3D fighting games it is fair to compare KOF with MK!

Robot vs. Monkey = ,ost unexpected game of the year.
I just think is they went with a most Tekken or DOA fight system with no wepon and a more SC fight system with wepons you would have a much better game, but that takes time and it has been a long time since Midway put that into a fighting game.

I agree with you pretty much. Id love for MK to be able to rival SC and Tekken. Will Midway listen to us? Maybe, but I dont know if they are willing to put in the time and effort to overhaul the fighting engine.

MK doesn't play like Tekken at all. Putting all fighting game basics aside, there isn't much of a similarity between the way they play. Tekken gameplay bases itself on the frame advantage one fighter gains when a certain attack is blocked, is missed, normal hits, or counter hits. Jin and Nina took heavy advantage of positive frame advantages in Tekken 4 with moves like Jin's 2,1 or Nina's 1+4. Mortal Kombat never even bothers with anything like that. Some characters in Tekken, especially Julia, rely heavily on counter hits to do damage, and MK:DA didn't even have special counter hit properties in the first place.
MK:DA focuses more on combos that are guaranteed if the first hit connects. Tekken combos don't have this property except in the case of a few select combos in which the first hit counter hits or one of the later hits in a longer string connects. Because of that, Tekken players hardly use long strings which is the exact opposite case for MK:DA.
MK:DA's basic fighting engine, based on its combo system, plays more like something such as Dragonball Z Budokai. Yet, even Budokai has a deeper fighting system than MK:DA with guard cancels that can stop a combo in the middle and allow the player to continue his assault with another separate string. Even if character strings in Budokai are similar to each other, it is varied so that characters all have their own custom guard cancel strings that need to be discovered and practiced separately.
I doubt MK:D will be very advanced because it doesn't do what games like Tekken do, and that's why I'm doubting the popularity of its online play. Hopefully tho, I'll be proved wrong, and the game will play like a real fighting game.

If u like Snk and King of fighter so much then just go play that no one is making u play Mortal Kombat. So stop bitching, i think MkD looks awesome 10/10

Pinsir, Are you actually saying the DBZ Budokai is better than MK:DA? DBZ Budokai didn't even have duck or ground hits! (but still a fun game)

I think MKD was in my opinion the best one out of all of them. Its one of my all time favorites. I think no other game compares to what MK offers. Really good plots, interesting characters, blood, fatalities, gameplay, konquest, puzzle fighter, chess kombat. There are so many PRO's and not many CON's. I cant actually think of anything negative to say about the game except that kitana isnt in the game yet. But thats all. This game is going to be my favorite. King Of Fighters to be was just plain boring, i own KING OF Fighters games but i think the characters were dull and boring. Were there any storylines anyways? Street fighter, is a good game but lacks story development. DOA was a good game but i prefer MK over that anytime. Tekken, was a awesome i own 1-4 but its not as good as MK. Anyways Im a huge MK fan and i dont like hearing people talk negative stuff about it.

How true. While I would like the fighting system to be improved, I still love MK. It is a great fighter in its own right. Ill take it anyway it comes, as long as effort has been put into it. Boon and company are trying their hardest to give what we want, and that in itself makes MK great.

I'm a huge MK fan, and I'll buy it just for the name, but Damn!!!
I had a feeling the game play was going to be like that.
I saw waaaay too much attention being put in to the extras.
Oh well, I guess MK is more of a fun game than a serious one.
I wish it was more serious.
When I say serious, I mean Complex and highly intricate game play.
Well, maybe well get lucky in the future.
Maybe MK7 if Boon get's the idea, but I think that what he has in mind is simplicity.
That's what he leans towards, so I don't see MK getting very complex any time soon.
It's still an awesome game though, just not quite up to par with a lot of players expectations.
------------------------------------------------
What I would like for the MK team to do is to release this game how it is now, and then just take a few more moths to make an upgrade that plays like a real complex fighter.
Sort of like what Sega is doing with the VF games.
I bet it would still sell like crazy.
I know I'd buy it for sure.

I have a real hard time with this "you can't compare it" shit. Uh, exactly why not? I thought the point of a comparison was to "compare" two unlike things, most notably those which have an arbitrary similarity. MK is a fighter, Tekken is a fighter, SC is a fighter, VF, GG, SF, yada yada yada. So just WTF is the problem? You can't compare them because the concepts are different? You can't compare because they're different games? Sorry, doesn't work for me.
I've come to the realization that MK will probably never be a decent fighter. It will be a good game, but not a fighter. I will gladly eat my words if I'm proved wrong, however.

Beating someone in MKDA wasn't really as fun as say, beating someone in Capcom VS SNK 2. The gameplay in the latter is complex and fun, while all MK's gameplay has to offer is fun.
There is no denying that playing MK is fun fun FUN! But it can't go beyond that. The addition of combobreakers is a plus but i'm not sure it's enough.
They put so much effort into so many things when in reality the most important thing a fighting game should offer is FIGHTING and FIGHTERS. I would be much happier if all the effort that Boon put in puzzle kombat and chess kombat, even konquest be put on gameplay and the characters.
More combos, more complexity, more costumes, more characters instead of all these crap extras that will lose their shine after the first month. If the gameplay is solid, the game will last forever. Example = Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo.

the reason i say you can't compar games is because like sc.. its an all sword fighting stance game... unlike vf and mk... and graphic wise i think mk is almost as good as vf or sc... and well guess the idea of thinking of combos of sc is almost impossible... and vf never really had combos.. just counters... but yes there are a few.. almost like mk:da... also if u want the combos the same for every game.. then there be the same buttons for every game.. take dbz:botukai.. each player had the same combo.. everyone hated that.. but i have to amite it was fun..
then theres tekken.. yes good graphics, gameplay, and well sound... but neither tekken, sc, nor vf had a dark moody toon... anyway.. its just my opinion.. you don't HAVE to take my advice..
hey lets compar this game.. pokemon and your mama.. i take the one thats cuter..
