Have you not paid attention to his bio? Raiden's still evil and he's not Shang. It's more likely that he was sent there because Shinnok (whom Raiden allied with) asked him to. Even if Shinny was not involved, did you forget that he could teleport?

Actually, Raiden isn't "evil" per se. He's more of a neutral character. He was there, because he made a deal with Shao Kahn, not because of Shinnok.

To MKRAYDEN: I'll say what I pretty much said over at Dave's MK. Why would Shang Tsung bother morphing into Raiden to attack Taven? Don't you think that Shang Tsung would've gone along with Shao Kahn and the others as he wants the power for himself? And if Taven really fought Shang Tsung, don't you think he would've morphed back after his defeat?

Raiden is not now, nor was he ever "evil". It's more that he's become extremely intolerant of anyone or anything that even remotely would threaten earthrealm. After his "resurrection" (and the fact that his sacrifice basically did NOTHING) He decided he was done with playing Mr. Nice guy about his role as Earth's protector. So currently he's decided that he will protect Earthrealm by ANY means necessary and does not care about the consequences of his actions. So long as Earthrealm remains untouched.

Rayden became corrupt after his Suicide. It tainted who he is. Hes not evil per-say. But hes not good either, He lost his compassion. Hes basicly Darth Vader. He does things to keep order for the greater good, but his sense of right and wrong is a off skew

If you think about it Raiden went against every thing Mortal Kombat stood for, Mortals are the ones that defend the realms, the God that is the protector of the realm guides them and provides for the Mortals, that is his duty and his compassion turned to passion and that's what corrupted him. In my mind, Raiden was weak minded, but if you look at the circumstances Raiden lost faith and hope in Mortals with the death of Liu Kang, in my opinion Liu Kang is the best character out of the Earthrealm fighters because he sets a goal and sticks to it, plus having that zen like calmness is something that draws his allies to him. If they make a future game I'd rather have Liu Kang as the new protector of Earthrealm.

For the most part, I see what you're saying regarding Raiden.

Liu Kang, although sticking to his goal, has his regrets. Unfortunately, he's a relatively bland character due to the lack of character development, something that MKSM should've done with him but failed to do.

Having Liu Kang as the new Protector God of Earthrealm ignores Fujin and immediately wastes his potential. Fujin had been made into Earth's Protector God after Shinnok's defeat, and even though Raiden had relinquished his Elder God status after Liu Kang's death, Fujin is still Earth's Protector God. Why not let him continue on and show more of what he's like in that role?

To me, Liu Kang is worn out and has had run his course. I still felt he should've stayed gone after his death.

Exactly ^^, I consider Raiden/Rayden more neutral and dark, NOT "evil" he's definitely not light/good right now but he's not extremely evil either. He's caught in between and doing things with not rules to get in his way.

I think that when raiden blew the whole place up in deceotions it killed him then to revive himself he had to take on his new form and this experience made him decide to save earthrealm by any means necasary think about that
