There was a thread that mentioned this not long ago.
I think the use of the spear in that way is only aprt of his throws. I've not seen it do anything other than the normal grapple and the pull out of the air which is apart of his throw. It is nice that the character accessories are being used a bit more though.

The way he uses it in MKSM would be sick to command. Kick the spear maybe with some kind of jump tied in there. Idunno....

That wasn't included in the E3 demo.

After watching the TMK videos, it would appear that Scorpion's spear basically goes wherever the opponent is, whether it be in the air or standing on the ground.

Yeah, there are SOME things that will be in there that weren't at the E3 show like Motaro, new secret multiple players mode, Blaze fighting and the new directional throwing system.
Yeah, check out the TMK site.They show Scorpion using it.It's only part of his throw.It's not a special move.
His special moves are the following
-Spear(classic, Get over here!)
-Teleport punch(oldschool style, punch and NOT a kick, also improved and faster now.
-Hell Fire(from MK:DA and MK:D)
-Flaming Kick(From MK:DA and MK:D)
And that's it as far as his specials are concerned unless they add more.
His new cool throw has his spear involved but it's not a special move.

nice, this move will be all the more reason for grab cheese online.
on a side note, great concept and idea on midways behalf.

I know, it's a cool throw Scorpion has.Stryker's throw is also awesome as hell.

The first time he throws his spear in the air (the third video from Day 3), its definitely a throw. However, if you watch video #13, at 2'40 you will see where the KAK uses Cage's shadow kick and knocks Shinnok into something leaving him in the air for a great while, and as Shinnok is falling she launches Scorpion's spear and instead of going under him it goes up to catch him as he's getting ready to hit the ground. Either way, theres not enough gameplay and its too early to tell for sure. I imagine Boon and that other guy whose in love with Scorpion liked using Scorpion's spear enough the way they did in MK:SM we'll probably see some more uses out of it than the usual throw it straight forward.

that throw is sick, i hope this means that all character will have a nice unique throw in the attack list. i think that every character should have a special air attack move to make the air kombat more interesting from character to character so your not cheeseing the same tactics.
so like liu kang can have his aerial firball back to mix in with combos, or like kung lou could have back his air throw from MK2.

i dont think so, I dont think i have ever seen it actually follow someone exept maybe in the movie.
