Captain Marvel. His name is Captain Marvel. Damn Marvel for copyrighting the name, even though the character DC has is older than Marvel...and yeah, I'm glad they brought him in. Its about time. One character who deserves more limelight than he gets.

Listen to the man.
As for my thoughts, I am glad to have him. I was apprehensive at first, since he looked very goofy to me. However, after reading up about him and his former popularity, I am excited to play him. On top of that, it looks like he plays fantastically.

From an absolute point of view though, I do not care about the character.
I think it's cool to see a trademark honored in a game, but Shazam is a character that I view as one of those "excuse to do parody something else" type characters. Regardless of the facts surrounding the character.
In other words, I know about him, but just don't care.
Take or Leave.

Hell yeah I'm glad that the character is in the game. Many of you don't know who he is because many of you have never really read books about him. For the most part, most of you only knew the DC characters from that old, goofy ass 70's cartoon, the "Super Friends." That cartoon was so far off the mark, it wasn't even funny.
As you may know now, Captain Marvel is really the child, Billy Batson. He was bestowed the strengths of the greek gods by a wizard named Shazam. The character is not a superman clone as many of you were somehow led to believe. Infact, the only powers he shares with the kryptonian are strength and speed. Everything else about him dwarfs what Superman is capable of.
When he calls that bolt of lightning down, it transforms him into Captain Marvel, or Billy if he's already in CM form. That magic lighting is one of the few elements in the DC univers that can actually kill Superman. Periodically, Captain Marvel is called upon to stop Superman when ever Superman goes rogue.
In the graphic novel, Kingdom Come, Billy Batson is a grown man who works as part of an elite group of chairman under Lex Luthor. In that book, Lex dispatches Billy to prevent superman from stoping a missile that would destroy all the meta humans. Lex did this in an effort to destroy all the meta humans who called themselves "Heroes," or otherwise. These so called heroes were nothing more than rogue vigilantes who dilivered their own brand of justice upon criminals which included killing them on site. They declaired themselves, Judge, Jury and Executioners.
Lex saw the only solution was to kill them all and Supes was called to stop the missile. Needless to say, Captain Marvel almost killed Superman before he came to his senses, allowing him to stop the missile. The art in that book was drawn and painted by Alex Ross, the guy who did the cover for the collectors edition of MKvsDC. The mood of the book was very dark. I reccomend it to all of you guys.
Captain Marvel is a facinating character along with the foes he has faced such as Black Adam. Black Adam is an ancient Egyption bestowed with similar Magic Power. Black Adam, though not really evil, is conflicted by his desire for conquest and a lingering desire to do the right thing when shit gets too bad. He and Captain Marvel have come to blows on numerous occasions.
Anyways, I'm glad this character is finally geting a chance to shine in a game that will no doubt raise his popularity and awareness.
Peace

Y'know why? One of the staples of why I pass on this character is because I never found his transforming interesting. Nor how magic surrounds the character.
First time I heard about him//read anything about him, I had to be 13 or so and my interest in the character immediately dropped totally off the map. Since then, nothing has changed about my perception of how lame it is, for a child to "*poof* all of a sudden". The depictions of the character are too far left for me.
Shazzam//Captain Marvel should probably be a naive idiot, and constantly have to be taught, or always learn from his mistakes. On a scale, his blunders should always be enormous until the child actually grows the __ up.
lol
It's a waste of a space. Be more "Doctor Fate" or somebody...

That's funny because if you told most kids they could turn into a superhero by saying a magic word they would take it. That's how CM appealed to all the kids. God knows if I could've said a magic word when I was 13 to turn into CM I sure as shit would want too.

To be honest, I didn't really know anything about Captain Marvel. I first saw him in an episode of Justice League: Unlimited, and in that episode, he and Superman duke it out a bit due to Lex Luthor. When reading up on him a bit, I admit there are some interesting elements. However, I still find him to be a rather cheesy superhero. I would have rather had someone else, but I can kind of see why he'd fit in due to the use of magic and his lightning powers.
Just to note something that mastermalone said about Captain Marvel being bestowed with the strengths of the Greek gods. According to the wikipedia article on him, it says that he gets his powers from King Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury. Isn't Zeus the only one of those 6 that's a Greek god?
Oh..one last thing....

No, Captain Marvel is one of the most intelegent characters in the DC universe. One of his abilities is the Wisdom of Solomon which bestows upon him unlimited knowledge of science, magic, most known languages, logic and reasoning. For example, there is a recent comic featuring the re-telling of his first meeting with Superman.
Both are amazed by eachothers abilities. For example, Captain Marvel was blown away by Superman's ability to hear a conversation that took place a few hundred miles away. In return, Superman was blown away by Captain Marvels understading of the forces that dictate the laws of space and time as well as the magic force behine the deamon that tried to kill Superman.
Superman asked Captian Marvel how he knew all this. Captain Marvel simply replied, "I just know things."
I think your perception of the character is due to a lack of concrete facts about him. Hey, but it's fine if you don't like him. I'm not here to change your mind about him
I usually step into these debates when I see an incorrect fact or two.
Peace

Hercules is the half god son of Zeus (Strength)
Atlas is a Titan (as powerful as any god) (Stamina)
Solomon and Achilles are the only human attributes to his power from which he gets courage and wisdom.

First I was like "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???" but now I'm cool with it. Cap. Marvel looks quite awesome and has pretty cool signiture moves ("SHAZAAAM!!!") and therefore it's ok. But I'll crush his friggin face and every bone with superman's fists that's for sure......... stupid Superman rip off!!!

I appreciate a journey so *poof!* doesn't work for me. *shrugs*
I think, my take is actually substantive. Or in other words, "it's a matter of taste".

I gotcha, but I think you missed the point . The premise of the character doesn't appeal to me.
In my mind the child (the primary character imO), even though there's this "super-man" inside him, should grow into a responsible, knowledgeable superhero. I'd be more accepting of him if there were these "adventures" were the child learned to use all this power through a mentor or something like that. Until then, he should probably be "obviously a child with Superpowers". Which is, a blank slate for the most part.
So simply giving the child "everything" at once like that, leads me to believe that the powers of Shazzam are "just an excuse to parody something else".
Plainly put, "I appreciate a journey". Like how Batman became Batman by being taught. Or how Superman became Superman by discovering who he was. Batman or Superman didn't just *poof*. And so the allure of this character doesn't // never has worked on me.
Shazzam is a lame character imO, but I appreciate the trademark.

Zeus was the god of the sky (aegos), royalty, authority, invitations (zeus xenios), and then lightning and thunder.
Mercury is the god of messengers, inventors, etc.. as a herald of the pantheon he is speedy I guess.
Atlas is a suffering titan sentenced to hold the sky, having nothing to do with the titans that Gaia spawned, infact, according to Hyginus he predates even Zeus.
Achilles was a greek demigod who was invincible except on the back of his right leg. He perished at Troy (and cross-dressed to avoid war).
Solomon has nothing to do with gods, he was a judean king, one beset with great wisdom by God. Also, a womanizer and this led to the dissolution of his kingdom.
