I have noted as I have looked through the numerous “I hate this Character” Threads that people often say that they don’t like Master Bo' Rai Cho or that Bo' Rai Cho must Go.
I love Bo' Rai Cho, I’m no good at fighting with him, but I love his character. Furthermore, I agree with John Vogel, I like the idea of Mortal Kombat having it’s Master Instructor or Great teacher.
So why the hostility towards Master Bo' Rai Cho?

Some people feel his brand of humor...farting, burping, etc...doesn't suit the atmosphere of Mortal Kombat; feeling he's overly juvenile.

Other people can't accept the concept of an overweight drunk man being the great martial arts instructor....apparently preferring the typical Pai Mei-like model.

Personally, I've nothing against Bo' Rai Cho. He doesn't interest me in paticular and I'm not that into using him, but I think he's serves his role well enough. But in my opinion, I don't think he should return in future games. I think he'd have more impact dying than continuing.

I can't stand what they did with him in the games, to tell the truth. I love the Mortal Kombat Conquest(t.v. show) version though.

Mainly why I don't like him, is because of his brand of humor, like XD84 said.

Here's a couple vids of "The Drunken Master (Jackie Chan)" or, "Master Cho", The Mortal Kombat Conquest(t.v. show) version.

I basically think they took the "humor" too far. He can be fat, I don't care, he can be a teacher, I don't care. But when you abuse the articles that made the character what he is, you loose my "sign on" completely. It's why I don't really care for a few of the characters. Liu Kang, Scorpion, or say Reptile when they made him this:

...for a couple of examples. The characters that I do like might be homages, or re-inventions of previously designed types, but they're far enough off, or there was little recognized about them to me. Like Raiden or Shang Tsung...I didn't know anything about a "Raijin", Japanese God of thunder and lightning before MK. But I did know of the Big Trouble in Little China character, and wished they would have spent more time on him in that movie.

Basically like XiahouDun84 said, most who hate Bo' Rai Cho don't like his type of humor. To me, most Bo' Rai Cho haters only look at his surface qualities, completely missing the point of his character. I like that he has unconventional qualities to him that make him stand out, especially from the typical martial arts master.

While I didn't care for him as much in MKDA, I liked him a lot better in MKD. Unlike other comic relief characters like Johnny Cage, Bo' Rai Cho is far better developed and has more going for him. He even goes beyond just the unconventional martial arts master. I like the dynamic with his Outworld origin stopping him from taking part in Mortal Kombat tournaments, hence why he trains people from Earthrealm, in hopes of his own world being freed from tyrannical oppression.

Overall, Bo' Rai Cho is a greatly underrated and often misunderstood character. However, like Xia, I think that Bo' Rai Cho is better off dying. He's served his purpose, and his death in the story will make for a better impact.

I don't care for his fatalities, or "funny" body excretions, But I like fighting with him in MKDA and MKD because I can go through his 3 styles+1 hit, then do it again for the 2nd time for one long combo.smile

Well Bo"Rai"Cho has love for me, but hey, i love every mk character, but Bo was a little annoying in MKDA. But they did make him a bit more serious in MKD and MKA, so i don't understand why people still hate him. I personally used to hate Li Mei, not because she wore purple and had mileena sais, but because she looked like she should be in tekken, i thought MK was trying to turn all tekken-ish. But i'm glad they mortal kombatnized her in MKD and MKA.

Like stated many times before, by some of the smarter members of MKO, Bo Rai Cho isn't hated, as much as looked down upon. I personally like Bo Rai Cho. In MKD, he played a vital part of the begginning of Konquest, and his Outworld Dynamic played a nice part. If I had to choose between any MK character to play as, he wouldn't be my first choice, nor my last (I mean honestly, does anybody like Tanya?).

Although I agree with most others, that his death would make a large impact, his living could be even larger, if the MK team plays it right. Of course, knowing Midway, they'll fuck it all up.

As for his character in-particular, he has many levels, which is unique, as most characters have one story-line, which is poorly written in-itself, and they serve it out way to quickly, leaving Midway with a character that they have no Idea what to do with. (You can't blame them, making sixty characters with each having an individual ending is hard enough. It's just a shame that 1/10 ending was good, and they didn't even give us the slide-show from MKD {Which everybody loved, no denying}).

Bo Rai Cho, on the other hand, has a few levels. Of course, drunken master who farts way too much is his "Surface level", which has grown distaste amongts most members of the Mortal Kombat community. Then he has his Outworld origin, which could have played a major part (like a forced entry into Kombat), but again, wasn't really played on. He has alliances with the major Earthrealm players, and I could see him interacting with Zombie Liu-Kang in a Cannon ending for MK8. However, I doubt we'll see that.

Bo Rai Cho overall : 6/10
Bo Rai Cho potential : 8/10.

He's a repulsive fatso who can't be taken seriously because of his image.

I don't care how much development he receives. If the only good thing about him is his story, then let him be only part of the story. Why let him waste space and snatch a playable character spot when someone cooler and funner could be playable instead?

I just see nothing appealing or exciting in playing as some old ugly fatso who's special moves are barfing and farting wet gas. What the hell will MK delve into next? One-toothed thugs who's special moves are pistol whipping and making people get high for a free hit?

I have no problem with his in Konquest mode, for instance. But having him be playable, that's just as ridiculous as Mokap.

I don't particularly enjoy playing as him, and think he needs to end now before he becomes stale, but he is definitely one of the better characters in the series. It's really a shame he gets overlooked, as he is far more original and intriguing than another palette swap ninja.

I like him as a character, but I cant play with him. I think he is funny and like the humour they gave him. I am glad that Mortal Kombat can have a funny side.

He's fat, he's ugly, he drinks to much rum, and his most special move is puking.

I dislike him because he is a cliche of many characters in Japanese / Mexican / Chinese television and animation. Fat, farting, drinking, but they still have a needed purpose from the main character (protagonist). Dead Or Alive 3 had their drunken master... so Mortal Kombat needed one.

I never had interest in him because of his puking and farting.
I used to think he was a joke.
His drunkenness affected my game play.
