It's time to stand behind your words. Maybe you should have another chat with Ed Boon.

*sigh* Man, I really hope someone just comes out and clears the air about all of this "secrets" stuff. I've read the chat transcript, and I understand the admins' PoV, still this stuff doesn't seem any clearer than it did two days ago. And while I've never visited that Australian site until today, it sure doesn't seem like that site is set up to be an elaborate dupe for MK fans.
Anyway, I really do like both Deadly Alliance and Deception, secret or not. But the flip-flopping back and forth between "yes there are" and "no there aren't" is really wearing thin.

I'm afraid I do. I checked with my contacts at Midway this morning, and the official answer is that the info there is bogus. There are no selectable characters outside of the main 24 on the grid.
Hope this helps...

Maybe the idea of adding SU's was scrapped when they decided to work on a Gamecube version of MKD - so they would add the extra characters there, to make up for no online play.
BUT 'insiders' before the release of Deception claimed that Rain, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Reptile with a completely different look, Sektor and possibly (but not likely) Shao Kahn were going to be part of the list of Super Unlockables.
THese 'insiders' were correct about Smoke's apperance (the body of Smoke look) and were also correct about the begining of the intro - claiming for months that a Raiden vs Deadly Alliance video was in existence. Other things were mentioned (Like Raiden's charred look) that have been proven true.
Why if they were correct about those closely guarded secrets, were they wrong about the SU's?
It also seems to me that Boon and co. are hardly going to say, "Yes the Deadly Alliance, Rain, Shao Kahn etc are unlockable secrets" after the game was only released EARLIER THIS MONTH!!! And hasn't even come out yet anywhere but North and Central America!
I say keep looking and things will eventualy turn up... ................................................................................................................................. Oh and mods / admins - don't try to sugar coat it. Do you honestly think FIght Night was a success if there has been this much negative recation from the users? Of course not...

If they made some unlockable things so hard that it would take months to come up on a mortal kombat forum, then the only people who would ever unlock them would be the residents of thos forums. Since 1 million + copies have already been sold, the game's audience goes way beyond those that use guides or internet forums to look up extra information in the game. The game should be self-contained, in that you only need THE GAME to complete it. Why spend countless developer hours putting in content that is only ever unlocked by those who use specialised internet forums to work out how it's done? The game is too mainstream to cater for that. Personally, I think as it is the characters should be cut back down to 12, which I think gives the perfect balance and allows each character to have real depth.

No offense man, but reread what you just wrote. If that's not a lie, then what is? Of course "things change;" that's life. If a promise is only valid for the exclusive moment in which it's made, then what's the point? Unless you're sure you can deliver, don't make the promise.
Peter Molyneux made an apology to Fable fans for features, which he had previously promised, that didn't make it into the final game. Ed Boon basically made fun of MK fans who were desperately looking for secrets he had promised, but don't actually exist. What a class act...
Also, Ed Boon never lied. Sure he said there would be superunlockables outside of the 24 back in May. Things change! If you had any clue what the development of a game is like, you would know that things can change entirely either due to better ideas, or time constraints. He wasn't lying five months ago, but sometimes things just don't turn out how they orginally planned.

My point exactly, thank you.
He lied, that's all there is too it.
No offense to the mods...but he lied, and if there were never a visit to midway, or a fright night chat (which i'm thankful for...i'm not ungrateful in any way)...I doubt the mods would be as lenient in their classification as to what a "lie" is.
No offense to the fine folks here at MKO, but Midway should really issue a press release officially dispelling all "SU" rumors if they do not in fact exist in MK:D. The results of what went down at the chat has unfortunately only fueled the "SU" fire, and now most people aren't even taking "my Midway contact said this and that" at face value.
An official press release distributed to online gaming new sources such as IGN or Gamespot is the only way people are going to start believing any of this (even though those sources have ironically grifted some of their news from the MKO chat). And I'm sure even then you'll have those who are still in denial.

Sure, of course, the easy way to clear this up is to get an official statement from Midway -- but after all that's happened, who trusts a single word they say anymore? Yes, no, maybe... even if they did give some kind of statement, what's preventing them from contradicting that information a week later? Not that they would ever give such a statement anyway, as Fight Night proved, the entire staff is completely incapable of giving straight answers on ANYTHING, and they obviously love screwing their fans, so they'd probably put out false information just in order to keep this whole debate going.

An interesting argument. I think that MK doesn't have many characters due to the FMV making for them all. Other 3D fighting games don't have a lot of FMVs either, right? Correct me if I'm wrong on that.
I think the SU issue should be OFFICIALLY resolved... hopefully soon. If there are no Super Unlockables, I will still love the game. But, I might go out and buy CodeBreaker or something to use other characters.

Actually the Tekken series does have very nice FMV endings for all characters (even the hidden ones). It even has different ones for some of the alt costumes (but only a few).
What needs to be addressed -- and I sincerely hope that Boon and Co. are listening in here -- is that while having lots of nice secrets hidden within games like MK definitely piques interest and generates word of mouth, not delivering on the goods is eventually going to sour people on the franchise, especially if persistent gameplay issues (read: inexcusably cheesy infinites) are consistently ignored.
On one hand, I totally sympathize with the game's creators. After all, it's primarly the Internet's fault for generating this silly mass hysteria over SUs. But c'mon, who here doesn't think that the game developers are dangling the proverbial carrot in front of the donkey's nose just a little bit? The chat transcript is proof enough of that. If this all turns out to be one big red herring (sure is shaping up to be exactly that), some consumers are going to be put off, it's just a fact. Whether or not it will be enough to make a dent in the mighty MK sales juggernaut remains to be seen.
"WTF are you ranting about? This game is selling like hotcakes!" you say. Yeah, it is, and I'm sure nobody at Midway is losing sleep over any of this. But if the primary focus of future MK games is on what's hidden (or not) in the game -- as opposed to the gameplay itself -- well, let's just see how well "Mortal Kombat 9: The Return of Stryker" fares.

"Can't we all just........ get along?"
Some where in all this mess, people seem to forget this is a fighting game!! Buy the game for the pure stress relief of fighting! Everything else is simply extra, like frosting on a cake. And yes, this game did give us our cake and eat it to. Almost all the inputs from the last two years posted on this site are in this game. Amazing, they actually took the time to listen to us and make a game from our inputs. What more can we ask for? For some people, it seems to be always raining. How about showing some gratitude for a well created game. The team did not mislead us in fight night. They were very clear. Thank you guys for keeping it straight. You still have a fan that believes in you. If your playing simply for secrets then maybe you are playing the wrong game. This is a fighting game. Go play GTA. MK will survive with out you. How? There are "real fans" that show their support to the MK games and how they have evolved. Thanks goes to the MK Team for a kick ass "fighting" game!! MKD Rocks!!

You thought they were clear? Are you shitting me? What if you asked someone what time it was, and they said, "5:00. No, 7:00. No wait, yeah it's 5:00. Actually it's 1:30. No it's not, it's 3:00. So the truth is it's 11:15, ok. Got it straight now, 9:45." Even THAT'S better than what Boon & Co did. Did you even read the transcript? What they did is the equivalent of you asking someone for the time, and they reply "blue."

I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt that there are any Super Unlockables. Boon was fairly clear the first time he was asked. I never really thought there was one, and continued gaining skepticism after hearing all of the things people tried and failed at. If you want to, by all means, continue searching, but I can't help but think there is not going to be a Super Unlockable.
Clearly, Lui Kang was extremely hard to find, but clearly he was not a "secret". As countless people have said, he was on the main selection screen. This prevents it from being a secret or being hidden. I don't understand how you can defend that it is a secret and I also think it is fairly clear that Boon lied. You could say he misspoker, but I can't imagine that it just slipped...He had to have cut one out or just plain lied about the whole thing. It seems kind of underhanded to me.
^^My two cents.

Oh man this is too rich.
It's the MKDA crybaby phase of MKD. Right after the confusion and shock of finding out you were shitted on.

So what if he is on the selection screen? Why would that make him not count? Is there any actual reason besides "because I said so". like can I just randomly come up with rules for what is and isn't secret?
Smoke is on the selection screen in MK3, yet I've not once seen someone say he wasn't secret.

You HAVE GOT to be joking.
Smoke wasn't on the select screen in MK3, THE DRAGON LOGO was!!! You had no idea it was Smoke until you unlocked it. It's not the same as in MKDA or Deception, you know that there is character there, and you know exactly who's there unless it's a new character or you've been away from planet Earth for the last five hundred years.

I'm going with we decide what is or isn't a secret. The fans are looking for something that satisfies the "secrets itch." Something that makes you go wow thats was cool. Koffins and little golden chests sprinkled about dont satisfy that. Listen to all the crazy stuff people are trying. Stuff that is totaly wild and absurd. Thats what they are looking for because thats what they want. Something with some imagination to it. Some substance. People didn't go on a quest to unlock the secrets of the MK universe. They went on and easter egg hunt in the konquest. Like I've said that is a kindergarden secret.
If I go to a movie. And in this movie they spend all this time trying to find the meaning of life. Hype it up. Make it look cool in the trailer, and get me to go see it. I don't want to spend 2 hours to find out the meaning of life is make the best gingerbread cookies in the world. I want to find out its something cool, interesting, and clever. As the viewer I am the leading athority on if the movie delivers or just sucks. As a secret LK wasn't strong enough to bench press a cocconut.
I'll give them this much. Lying is a great way to get people to buy the game and work on it. All they have to do is tell people there is stuff in the game they will probably never find. Since they can never find it, nobody would ever know they never actualy took the time or money to put anything in. People don't like being lied to though. All they have to do is make one crappy game after pissing a few fans off and they could be back to square MK4.

Doesn't the MK dragon logo on the MK3 select screen spin around every so often to SHOW you Smoke's face? It does on my original PSX MK3 anyways, not 100% sure about the arcade, but I think it does...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But although Anya is right that Liu Kang is still a secret in MKD, it isn't a very good one...
Reptile in MK1and Smoke and Jade in MK2 with their cryptic messages were soooooo cool. The fact that the dragon logo on the select screen spins around and gives u a quick glimpse of Smoke - these things are what MK was all about. But DA and D have really neglected the 'cool' secrets portion of the game, for some obscure reason since it helped create that aura around MK in the first place...
A better way of unlocking Liu Kang would've been to unlock him after you beat Kobra, Kabal and Kira in the Netherealm - when you awaken Kochal.
I mean, that is one hell of a mission, and u only get 1000 onyx coins. I think a hidden character would have been a much better award... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit- Sorry for going off topic - Fight Night was crap.
Fight Night was a complete waste of time. Some people here are even saying it was fake, which I highly doubt it. Anyway, in order to make Fight Night more believeable, and more serious here is a couple of pointers.
1. Get only one person for Fight Night, and not any more than that. For example, since it is Ed Boon's game get him only, and no one else. That way there can be no ramblings about, etc.
2. Besides chatrooms, why not get it on video by actually going to meet the person face to face for Fight Night. Then place it online for people to download, and watch which will proove to people who don't believe Fight Night is real, is actually real.

Another addition to an earlier post here:
I would like to elaborate for some people about my personal views on Fight Night. More on the "IS IT FAKE" subject. Let me first clear up that I believe that Fight Night is real, and the people there are who they say they are, and I am not here to say that Fight Night is fake. I am just going to explain why some people could believe it is fake.
Since Fight Night is all a chatroom based interview, where someone IM's someone a question, and they IM back the response it could be cleverlly faked. For one, we wouldn't know if the people there, are the real people who made the game since we cannot physicaly see them. It could be someone pretending to be them. Fight Night could be cleverly staged. For example: a group of people could set up a time, and day to have the "fake interview" and each person would be so, and so, and the interviewer would be so, and so too. Everybody would have a role to play to make the mock interview believeable.
I believe that people were upset with Fight Night. I was a little, but it was still interesting on some of the replies they gave to some of the cool questions. I would like to see a different Fight Night interview with only one person being interviewed with no interruptions. One on one. That way we could get some professional replies besides fooling around, and side conversations.
I do believe that Fight Night is real, and that MKO is doing a fantastic job at everything going on here at MKO.

If you read one of our news posts after the chat, we said we are releasing a video soon, that we took of Ed Boon and Team doing Fight Night. We'll have it up soon, we just have to clear it with Midway.
