I still hold my claim that nintendo wanted to make the name sound fun and silly.... and they came up w/ that explanation just to have a logical explanation for the game....
also... most ppl who come here like "badass" characters/games and so forth... so they have a natural dislke of the nintendo, who dont promote that image for themselves... theyr not like "FAST! FURIOUS! GRAARRRGGHHH" ... nintendo takes a more: "YAH! our games are FUN! u'll actually enjoy the experience! come in and play"...
did that just make any sense...???

"You see, I face a whole new Monster!! I face a man, who represents, the Nintendo Entertainment System..."

Anywho, PSM speculates a 399 PS3 price upon release. That would be sick as fuck. I was considering only the Wii if the PS3 cost over 500, now I may just get a PS3 and wait for a few for Wii - if Wii costs over 150.

This may surprise everyone considering I've been one of Nintendo's strongest critics but I think "Wii" is genius. It's genius not because it's a good name but because it's just too funny. It'd be like if Sony renamed the PS3 the Sony Beaver. Too many jokes, too little time. I think that's what Nintendo is trying to do. If you can't beat Sony and Microsoft the classic way, then be so bizarre and out there that every single person notices you. It's like those really bad independent film makers who rather than making actual good movies decide to just do wacky shit like transsexual sex scenes and impressionist drug trips in order to get people to notice them. I'm not saying that Nintendo is talentless by a long shot, but rather that they're using the same marketting scheme to essentially maximize their constituency without having to do anything substantial.
Agreed.
With such major competitors Nintendo has pretty much no other opinion.
Nintendo wont be able to match the 360 or ps3 hardware wise.
Nintendo don’t have the online capabilities both other systems have.
And as far as I can see developers don’t seem to be concentrating too heavily on the current gen Nintendo system.
Long story short, revolutionise gaming in order to get sales.
Its simply do or die time for Nintendo.

sony playstation site has a ps3 section now not much to see but i feel theres more to come in the near future.........
http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3
Not to tute my own horn, but I could have sworn I said the PS3 would cost $500+. Sony claims to be able to ship 2 million units the first month of launch, followed by another 4 million by the end of the year.

They were crying when their sons left. God is wearing black. He has come so far to find no hope, he's never coming back. They were crying when their sons left, all young men must go, he has come so far to find the truth he is never going home...

"You see, I face a whole new Monster!! I face a man, who represents, the Nintendo Entertainment System..."

So, no rumble support the PS3? Meh, I don't mind that. The whole rumble thing is so last century. I mean really. It's not like a vibrating controller is adding anything significant to your gameplay experience is it? I crash a car into a wall or my character gets thrown onto the ground and my controller rumbles? Wow, you can feel the impact!...In your hands...Barely. Which isn't very impressive or logical at all when your character is getting shot in the face, not the hands. It's hardly the immersive and lifelike "virtual reality" experience it was touted to be in 1997 or whatever. When I think about it, it's actually a hilariously shitty feature, considering how much people were creaming themselves over it back in the day. OMG MY CONTROLLA VIBRATES~! REVOLUTIONARY@! Haha.
I always found it quite annoying, personally.
Motion sensor > lame vibration
I couldn't agree with that anymore. I can't get over how pissed off some people are "OMFG HOW COME THERE'S NO MORE VIBRATION!!!!" Half the time you had to turn that option on when you start a new game and I would usually forget about it. Never really made an impact on how I play. I'm looking forward to the motion sensor.

YES:--------------19,720------26.88%
NO:---------------42,602------58.07%
UNDECIDED:---11,043------15.05%
TOTAL:----------73,365------100%
Essentially, if this does accurately represent the general gaming populace, then there is no way for Sony to retain it's marketshare. At the very best (assuming all the undecided people do end up purchasing a PS3) there still is a substantial lack of support when compared to the PS2. Certainly console sales tend to go up after a price drop but judging by what's standard in the industry regarding such drops, after it's first two drops, the PS3 will still cost more than the PS2 did at launch. Consider the fact that the PS2 is the base console this generation. For the most part, if someone owns a current gen video game console, at minimum they have a PS2. My uncle bought a PS2 and he hasn't seriously played games since the days of Pac-Man. A lot of those people are not going to be buying a PS3. This gen, the standard was if you owned one system it was a PS2 and any further consoles you picked from the remaining two. This upcoming generation, the base console (if there even is one) will most definately change. I don't think I'm ready to say that Sony will not retain it's #1 spot as far as marketshare goes but there is no chance it can retain the one it enjoyed with the PS2.

"You see, I face a whole new Monster!! I face a man, who represents, the Nintendo Entertainment System..."

I've supported Sony and PS from day one. As a little dude I mowed lawns all summer to get enough cash to buy a PS1 on release; hell, I didn't even have enough to buy a game, second controller or memory card for over a month. I kept playing the demo disk, lol.
The day PS2 came out I, I was in gymnastics class and SERIOUSLY jacked my ankle up minutes before it was time to leave. I have never been in that much pain w/o going into shock; I literally started to black out. I wrapped it in ice, gimped to my car, drove to the mall, hobbled my ass into gamestop then took my PS2 home and watched the boot screen. Then I left to get x-rays, haha.
Then, we have ken standing up their who seams to be getting all passive agressive with consumers, making retarded analogies. Ridiculous price, support for technology that most aren't even going to have in three years. Everyone knows it's going to be a pain in the ass to develop for. And, IMO, the shit shown at E3 wasn't even that impressive. The most impressive thing about the PS3 was that they ditched that crap rang' controller.
I just got this feeling from Sony like "if you don't buy a PS3, you're a tool and not 'hardcore'." Maybe i'm wrong, but fuck that. I'm not supporting that crap. I guess I'm just bitter because I've supported them for so long, and do indeed enjoy their product...or at least, have in the past. Then Sony acts like it's just inate that you buy a PS3, no matter the circumstances. I think they're going to find out, that's not the case.

The point is, this isn't just a small localized issue. The Japanese have just as many beefs about the PS3 as we do (and apparently their message boards are in just as much an uproar) if not more. Judging by this info, about 80% of Japan has no intention of buying a PS3 anytime soon. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Sony has gotten too big for its britches. They have this idea that everyone who owns a PS2 just has no choice but to buy a PS3 because everyone likes Sony more than they like Microsoft and Nintendo is for kids. They are their own worst fanboys.
Not to mention, the word "exclusive" has a new meaning these days. Many games that are exclusives stay that way for about 6 months to a year and then go off onto other platforms. Exclusivity has a shelf life these days. It'd be foolish to say that Metal Gear Solid 2 was not a PS2 exclusive but in the end it did eventually find it's way to the Xbox. Same with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Resident Evil 4, Grand Theft Auto, etc. All these games were exclusives. Point is, especially when considering some of these companies past histories and relationships with Nintendo and Microsoft, it would not be too shocking to see MGS4 and VF5 find their way to at least the Xbox 360. This would become even more likely if the PS3 performs that poorly in the market. When Grand Theft Auto went to the Xbox it didn't hurt Sony all that much because anyone who wanted the game already would have bought it for the PS2. But if Sony starts losing some exclusives to a console with far more market penetration, that just gives people less of a reason to buy a PS3. It was one of the biggest complaints about the Xbox this generation. A lot of Microsoft's major exclusives eventually found their way to the PC giving people who had a capable computer less of a reason to buy an Xbox.
Check out this article at IGN
"The success or failure of the PS3 will leave indelible medals or scars on all that is Sony. The company is risking their position as the dominant force in videogames, the outcome of the next-gen DVD format wars, the future of the Cell Processor as a uniting force in consumer electronics, the billions already spent in development, and the billions more that will be spent selling the console at a loss."
Sony has all their faith in this one console.Come November, its do or die.

And look at this:
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=140302
"We have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even it didn't have games."
Whether that's true or not, this whole PS3 charade sounds eerily similar to Nintendo's angle exactly 10 years ago back in 1996. "Nobody can touch us because we are [insert company] and our reputation alone will transcend any drawbacks."

Even the Super Nintendo, the console many hail as a golden age of gaming, had shit for a launch. Even graphically it didn't really show it's true potential until later. Super Mario World wasn't much beyond a more colorful Super Mario Bros. 3 making all these complaints that "the next-gen games don't look next-gen" pretty meaningless. Basically, consoles don't work like PCs. You can't go down the numbers (power, price, etc.) and accurately determine what the future holds or if the machine has any value. This is mainly due to PCs being insanely generic. Most anything coded for the PC will work just fine on any PC, regardless of brand, so long as the power is there. What's made for one console, however, doesn't always show up on others. For this reason, buying a console is a more risky investment than buying a PC. You can always upgrade your computer if a new game comes out that you can't run and a PC can be used for much more than that. With consoles you have to decide whether the money you put down on that machine will give you access to something substantial. In other words, good games.
Unlike when buying a PC, you don't know if the console you just bought will serve you well. That's mainly because the value of the PC is essentially what you yourself choose to use it for. The value of a console is decided for you based on what developers put out on it. Who knows? What if the PS3 launches, you buy one for $600 (because you want all that snazzy 1080p stuff) but ultimately the console sells relatively poorly after the launch because of the pricetag? That in turn sends third parties running for the hills to consoles with a much larger userbase. On the other hand, what if the PS3 sells a perfectly acceptable number? Perhaps that means more quality exclusives. The point is, a lot of factors are at play. Maybe the 360 will be in more homes worldwide than the PS3 but that's a hard game to play when one considers the historically ethnocentric Japanese market. But does being the "market leader" even mean a whole lot? In the case of the PS2 it did simply because that console lead the pack by an insane margin. If the gap is closer this generation (which I expect it to be) then marketshare may end up meaning jack and developers will release games for whatever console based on other factors. For instance, fitting in with the crowd. If you release a game in a genre, often you want to put it where other games of that genre are concentrated because that's where potential buyers of said game would be found.
Ultimately, there's no telling what this generation holds other than Nintendo and Microsoft will gain ground on Sony's lead. It's not possible to determine if Sony will or will not continue to have market dominance. At this point you may as well be flipping a coin.
