We're gonna have to wait and see.

(And Marvel axed Clops a while ago.)
One thing to keep in mind about the Marvel side of the roster is that they can't get all of the rights to certain properties. When they first announced the game they admitted it was a long process to attain a lot of the rights to characters. I'm not exactly sure how it all works or what the process is but that's what they said.
The capcom roster is alright with me. They have everybody I care about.

Yeah, that's some bullshit.
From lupinko:
"Not counting any other DLC, from what my source at the time told me, yes that is complete at 38. There is an unlocking system with the use of points a la Dreamcast secret factor for MvC2, so there could be more unlockables, since there's 2 confirmed on my end (TM and Akuma), but yeah 38 is what it is right now.
Again there could be more, but that was what was revealed to me by my source.
I will just shut up now, although the stuff I learned about Galactus was pretty fun, I also knew about SheHulk and her F4 outfit, holhorse like super and rmika styled moves before hand too."
"By the way I was not given that list, I just compiled it after discussing it with my source, who has actually played a more complete build of the game."
Mike Haggar - Shares some of Zangief's moves but only to an extent as he is still very much his own character - HP has him using a lead pipe - Super 1 - Punches with one arm over and over again, think Cracker Jack in SFEX - Level 3 Super - Final Haggar Buster (his version of FAB), ends with piledriver which results in different camera angles on the last frame, think when you beat someone with a super in Star Gladiator
C. Viper - She has EX moves that take metre, done by using the Exchange button to do the moves - She has a Focus Attack, which may have potential for assist traps

I actually don't want that many Street Fighters. If I want a fighting game with those characters I'll play Street Fighter 4.

The newer, ugly box art.
The older, prettier box art.
It's completely inconsequential, but damn, what happened to Morrigan's face? Shit looks like Joan Rivers is cosplaying as her.

Holy cow! They really butchered the beautiful, clean, comic-book-appealing art of the original! That's a step back in almost every regard. Forget what they did to Morrigan, what did they do to Viewtiful Joe? Nobody looks better in the new image.

Fuck unlocking characters.
That is all.

S-kill pretty much said they were purposely low balling us and that it would probably be around the 38-42 area.

I need Storm or this will be a rental
She was the first female to be confirmed along with Wolverine, Magneto and others. Plus Seth leaked her so I don't get why she hasn't been revealed yet.

on ign.com,gamespot.com,and marvel vs capcom 3 at wikipedia is saying the final build will be about 40 characters. also i saw a video somewhere saying that we would get attires and arenas before more characters. there's just alot more stuff that has to be done with a character than it does with an arena or an attire.
also i got the paste from marvel vs capcom 3 at wikipedia.
anyone going to practice up on marvel vs capcom 2 before the 3rd game comes out. i know i will be practicing on my version for ps2. a few of my teams are ryu,hulk,venom,/jill valentine,akuma,blackheart,/cable,iron man,war machine,/chun li,psylock, morrigan. thats a few teams i use.
i heard this game will be similar to how tasuko vs capcom is and was wondering if that game is good in terms of controls and gameplay. so if you played that game please tell me how it is.

It is very noob friendly and I don't see this game lasting long term as mvc2. My biggest problem is the 3 button attacks and lack of normals. It would be fine if you still have your defined punches and kicks but that is not the case. The launcher button is fucking stupid as hell because it really doesn't add anything to the gameplay and gives everyone 1 generic launcher, further reducing the depth. In mvc2, certain characters had more than one launchers, each used specifically in certain situations. I also hate the fact that you can launch of sweeps, which is weird as hell. I'm guessing this was implemented due to missing combos. There are no tech roll in this game, just the retarded tvc oki system. The infinite prevention is hitstun decay instead of damage scaling and dizzying out of combos. Assists have no invulnerability, so fights then to be more one vs one rather than a team fight. X-factor is fucking stupid and is just a lazy way to give everyone a 80%-100% combo. I'm probably missing other stuff but if you want to get ready for this game, practicing mvc2 is the last thing you would do because tvc is much more close to it.

I would genuinely speculate that the reason is contemporary irrelevance.
She's not as interesting as some of the wacky characters that've been revealed, and has long since lost the headlining cache to hang with the other major announcements. The X-characters are living by misplaced nostalgia as it is. It's even a bit surprising that Storm, of all the characters, is the one to make it in.

Yeah, that E button is at the heart of a lot of this stuff. It really fucks up raw tagging and forces us to use the very awkward "hold assist to tag" command. I agree with most of everything else. But I have been in this echo chamber of "MvC3 is going to be the best and everything is perfect!" so I'm still optimistic. I'd love it if dizzy out came back. Though, I do believe hitstun decay could have a place in the game. Maybe a per move basis would be better. But from what I've heard people aren't falling out of shinkus anymore. At least that's good news. And do assist still cover the point char? I haven't seen anything for awhile. Maybe I'll go check out some NCR videos.

Oh yeah, thanks for pointing out the hold assist button to tag thing. That is fucking retarded; you can't safe tag anymore. Oh, they are still falling out of shinkus and other stuff; it's just more specific and random now lol wtf. If you air shinku and the character dies, depending on the timing, they will fall out of it giving the next character a free shot at ryu. Assists still cover point character but slower startup and no invulnerability means that they will often get hit and killed, due to assists taking a bit more damage than in mvc2 and x-factor. It also means defensive assists are way more precise and riskier.
Basically, play any game in the marvel series from cota through mvc2 and you can tell that they are similar. Sure there are new things which are implemented here and there, but the core gameplay mechanics are the same. When you play this game, you can tell after 10 minutes that it is really different. It's a shame really because this had the potential to be the next generation mvc2.

Bwhahahaha! I'm just kidding.
Bwhahahaha! I'm just kidding.
I'm still seething a bit that Capcom is charging people extra for "DLC" when they could very easily put them on the game. I don't like paying extra for the "complete" version of a game, not after spending $60 for an unfinished initial roster. Capcom REALLY does DLC badly (I'm still stung by multiplayer in RE5, costumes in SFIV, and difficulty modes in Mega Man 9).
Regardless, the roster has disappointed me greatly. They confirmed no Silver Surfer or Phoenix Wright, and yet we get generic Trish from DMC, she-Wolverine and She-Hulk, and freakin' MODOK. Seriously, I can't think of anybody that wanted MODOK over Daredevil or Silver Surfer.
