Thats a very valid point. I wasnt really targeting old school rap but more of the newer rappers who just plain suck. The old school rappers were cool, but these new guys are just so sucky and stupid. They should use their heads for something more than a hat rack.

To put down either Rap or Rock is complete idiocy, and there is no point. One thing is to put down Rap, *it shouldn't be insulted because it's IN style "coughMTVcough"*, but it's a totally different thing to put down Rock, because there is no real :Rock: these days, well atleast on "coughMTVcough", but there was in back in the day 80s/Early 90s, and you can't insult it because you see it was never truly "popular" *gosh that's a gay word*, and it never was something that all the "cool" kids were liking. You've seen the movies, and you know what they're like. You've been to public school. What I'm saying is, nowadays everyone *as in the kids at school that are trying to be INStyle* worships an African American kid at school if he has good moves and can rap, and that's wrong because the only reason they do it is because they think it's "cool", because TV says so. Trust me I know from experience, and I don't have a hate toward the African American with kids that worship him. I knew one last year, and he saw it and would admit it to me, that they just liked it because ^above^, and he had an open respect for music as did I, and he would often admit to how skilled 80s/Early 90s rock musicians are, and immitate Diamond Dave's jump splits because he thought they were "tight", and was amazed at how good some guitarists are.

You see he didn't like it because everyone else did, he had skills. There were other guys I knew like him, and they were good natured and didn't try to be "Thug". You guys who insult one side are just plain morons. You just don't have the right, and absolutely no facts to back up your opinions.

Alright, this is being blow WAY out of proportion. You're all battling over whether one genre of music is superior to the other, only judging it on the actions that the musicians take.

Some of you are saying that rock is only a bunch of white guys jumping around and screaming into a mic. Well, you're all being narrow-minded little fucks. You've obviously only ever heard of Slipknot if you believe that's the case. I hope that somebody ties you to a chair, and plays Hoobastank in your ear for 3 hours, then maybe your attitude will change. You don't seem to realise that not all rock is agressive. Good examples are Nickleback, Hoobastank, Theory Of A Deadman etc. They don't scream at all, and if it sounds like screaming, it's actually singing with emphasis.

As for those that believe that rap is only a few guys singing over a pre-recorded beat, then you're no better than the rock haters. What about the Beastie Boys? Hasn't anyone ever seen them play 'Sabotage' live? That's technically a rap song, but they are all playing their own instruments. See my point? Besides, you'll see that most rappers do so, but you'll find that some are able to create their own beats by sampling others, and in some cases, making them sound better.

As for rap/rock groups like Linkin Park, they seem to be combining the best of the 2 genres, but sadly, they are actually making things worse between the 2 genres. Because of them, you'll find that rappers and 'grungers', or whatever you wanna call 'em, are fighting over the rock aspect is more superior, and the rappers are arguing that the rap aspect of the music is better. Well, to be honest, you're both wrong.

It's the spirit that gets put into the music that's the most important part of the song. It's the effort that they put in to create a beat, or write a decent riff.

As for my preference, I like a mixture of both. 80's rock, hardcore, emo, techno, rap, hip-hop etc. I'm not narrow-minded, which most people on this board are putting forward. The only people I can agree with in this debate are -illusion-, Needleskane and Hyuga. For shame.

yeah that was me, anyway i prefer metal more than rap or rock for that matter but what people just seem to be focusing in on is the mainstream of both genres and you really have to go behond that to find anything that is good, every so often something good will go into the mainstream but thats how mainstream music progress's they get a good artist/band and rip them off thats why you get crap rappers and crap rock bands they are watered down versions of the good stuff. so go search out the underground.
