to answer your question erik in sc4/broken destiny it ended the fight but in sc5 it's more like a super move/ultra combo found in the sf4 games. it's just flashy and does decent amount of damage.

does anyone know it there are there going to be cameos of characters like taki training her new pupil. like a short cutscene similar to sc3.

bring back theater mode. i enjoyed that.

did they explain more of the new features that effect gameplay. i remember watching a video for it.

woder if you can soul charge a critical finish to add extra damage.

I know they explained Quick Step and the Critical Edge. which can be done by:

236236A+B+K
2626A+B+K
2323A+B+K

I doubt you can charge it, but Brave Edges are similar to Enhanced special moves. The characters have 2-3, but no more than 3.

Translation of parts of Xiba's bio on the Spanish site by Ryushiro:

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
"Kilik and Xianghua separated before Xianghua was giving birth Xiba. As consequence Xiba never meet his father and he is not even conscious that his mother is Xianghua. When Xianghua return to her homeland, his grandfather force she to surrendering to a compound marriage. She beg his father, the master Kong Xiuqiang, to take care of her child, Xiba. He accepted, but Xianghua and Xiba can only meet once at year.

Ironically, Xiba learn the style of Kilik's fight with Kong Xiuqiang. He try hard in the study of the cane, and soon begin to fusing the formal methods of the secret art of Ling-Sheng's rod with his own style."

Do you think this game should have been a spin off?

I really can't support losing the main cast.

Personally, no. I think many characters were getting rather stale, and considering the fact SCIV was supposed to end the series, I think it's great they're starting with newer characters and a different time. (MK should have done this...)

But I do feel they could've handled this a little differently. Most of the new characters didn't really have to be/feel like style clones..

And now, I prefer most, if not all the new characters to the ones they replaced.

Not to mention, I like really their personalities and designs, bar Natsu. (With Pyrrha having my favorite personality. And Natsu's alternate is much better, but like Viola, I'll pretty much be using her style for my own characters)

I'm not really attached to the old guys since my favorites are pretty much in.. (with no sign of Charade yet), but I am fond of Taki's, Xianghua's, and Hwang's(and Yun-Seong's) style..

***If people wanted their old favorites, there's always the character creation option, since they are adding many things like hairstyles, etc.. from the predecessors. But if they want the full-fledged characters, then they'll only be DLC if the demand is there..***

I dont mind getting rid of some of the dead wood really. Its been a while coming to be honest.

Trouble is we've got Maxi, Astaroth, Raphael, Nightmare and hell even Siegfried coming back.

I mean I love their fighting style but they have been stagnant since SC3. And you can only say Siegfried and Nightmare was "iconic" of those to be included.

The more I look at the newbies, the more I like them to be honest. Apart from Zwei and Viola.

Reckon DLC might be filling some gaps though.

I am shocked that you guys have such displeasure with the old cast. I had no idea anyone wanted to get rid of them. I love the old cast. And I feel like in a fighting game franchise, it's important to keep characters around. It's important to keep their playstyles around. I don't know, just passing on their fighting styles to clone characters seem lame and cheap to me.

I'm surprised. Still. So I saw you guys endorse changing the MK cast as well. I wonder if you want to change the Street Fighter cast too, or Dead or Alive, or Dark Stalkers, or any other fighting game as well.

One of my biggest gripes with the MK franchise is how they changed the cast between games. Getting rid of Sonya and Kano in MK2? Getting rid of like everyone between MK:DA and MK:D but giving their fighting styles to clones. I dislike that so much. I dislike losing the identity of fighters.

I guess I like the way Brawl does it with clones. Keep the original guys and have someone who is basically a clone, but yet different. I would be so displeased if we lost Fox or Captain Falcon or Pikachu or Marth for Falco (who we then lose for Wolf) and Ganondorf and Pichu and Roy.

I don't know. I just hate losing the characters I've grown accustomed to. They make the game for me. And without them, I lose interest. I mean honestly the reason I am so into the MK franchise is because how much I love the characters and their stories. But I guess that's just me.

I agree, I like consistent rosters for my fighters, Dead or Alive as an example, they keep everyone, just expand the roster by one or two characters each game.

There's nothing really gained from getting rid of unique gameplay( which is what MK does all the time and part of why I get annoyed with the series) and there's nothing gained from giving new characters the same fighting style old characters have.

Let new characters be new or it kind of defeats the purpose of being new.

I always envisioned legacy characters having their own unique style, but having some specials or combos that paid homage to their family member or teacher that they got their skills from.

The only one that kind of works is Lexia and even still, Xianghua and Lexia could simply be an alt of each other, like what was done with Tekken for Christie and Eddy.

Tekken now has a roster of 40 characters in their game and nobody has much to say or complain about in that department because basically everyone is in the game and they keep all the unique gameplay and just add onto the roster, not taking anything away from it.

I am pretty much the complete opposite when keeping the old characters in every single game.

Not to mention, the characters I don't want in SCV are:

Maxi
Yun-Seong
Seong Mi-na
Rock
Bangoo
Kilik
The Sisters
Hwang

Those are the ones I never really liked (or in Maxi's/Yun's/Rock's cases, despised)

The others are meh.

I'm normally anti-lets kill off all the characters for no reason in fighting games.

Every time it happens (especially with Namco) it never works and then they come back in the following game.

The thing is, with Soul Calibur, it does need some fresh blood. Either in the bios/storyline or in the characters.

I like most of the characters in the series. But:
Raphael's transformation into a creepy Castlevania boss is maddening.
Maxi's story hasn't progressed since SC1. (It has now, but I just dont care)
The Alexandra Sisters can just frig off
Mitsurugi is basically god but cant find a Knight in blue armour with an eyeball sword.
Ivy (my beloved Ivy) when willst thou win a fight in a story?
Killik seems to be a bit of a fuck up. He was meant to be the chosen one.
Hilde (Awesome design) but fucking stuck up bitch. Horrible personality.
Yun Seong, just no.

Theres more, but tired lol.

The point is, in terms of storylines, they haven't evolved. Doesn't help that SC2, 3 and 4 seemed to take place within a year admittedly.

I just think it needs a bit of a spring clean.

I'm sad that Taki, Kilik and Zasalamel aren't in this game.
Natsu and Xiba just don't look as cool as their predecessors.

But I am glad to see Ivy, Raphael and Tira are still in.
Also, I find Zwei and Viola to be rather cool characters, I'm definately going to try and master them, even if their gameplay looks a little advanced.

More character/mode reveals next week, guys and gals.
------
As for Natsu, I'm definitely using her since I like playing as Taki, and the devs said she's faster, but I'm playing as her rarely. I'll be using a created character with her style more often..

I'm definitely using Viola and Zwei as well.

Yeah, I'm probably going to recreate Taki and Kilik in Character Creation mode, using Natsu's and Xiba's styles.

I've seen the Ivy and Tira ones. The designer of Bayonetta is the one who designed those. ^^

No problemo!

And the Soul Calibur wiki has some pics of the 2p costumes.

Aeon's is pretty much a palette-swap, etc..
