hell yes, champloo and bebop are the way to go. While ill admitt i like DBZ, more so when i was younger, champloo and bebop blow it away. Any Ghost in the Shell is badass aswell.

I used to be into DragonBall Z, but for whatever reason, drifted away from that and anime altogether.

I agree with all the negative statements regarding DBZ as drawn out and ridiculous with the constant yelling and constipated facial expressions. A typical DBZ episode would feature probably 18 minutes of screaming, and a few minutes of unnecessary/"comical" subplot and the villain standing there exclaiming "This isn't possible!" as the good guy powers up. Then, in the next episode, if the good guy is finished screaming and powering up, the attack misses or does very little to damage the villain. "Fighting" ensues, consisting of hundreds of missed punches and kicks and random flashes of light in the sky that are supposed to indicate that they're hitting each other at high speed but look rather more like the worst fireworks display ever.
Not to mention how many times the characters die but come back anyway. I'll give DBZ credit for letting them stay dead for a while, and sometimes having a subplot about the character doing stuff in the afterlife. But the fact that they still pull a Marvel Comics in the end and bring the character back to life is frustrating and lacking creativity.

I don't know how I got into that show. But in it's defense, it did spawn that hilarious "Over 9000" Ventrilo Harassment video, by Video Compiler. So it's not completely terrible.

i dunno what u guys are smoking but i love dbz. like im not an anime finatic, but il watch any DBZ episode or movie and enjoy it every time.

i do hate gt and db becaus eof the way its drawn, i dunno, dbz seems sharper.

anyways. dbz is the best anime imo. im not a doctor of the subject but i enjoy it alot. where else would u find a character like vegeta or gohan?

Actually, quite the opposite.

It was very popular in the US, and Cartoon Network commissioned and co-produced a 2nd season, which ran its course.

And it was more closely related to DC...in fact, the team that did the Batman animated series made the anime.

Given that shonen rely 90% on the same stuff (getting better by training, the all-defeating power of friendship, main hero is a goofball with a heart of gold and his best friend is exactly the opposite of him in terms of personality - and he has to be his rival of course)...

Bother to watch different anime. For laughs and out-of-this-world humour I suggest Azumanga Daioh, but if you want a very good combat anime for adolescent boys then Fist of the North Star is the way to go. Lot more brutal, and skips the idiocy altogether. No rivalristic idiot with bulemic eating habits and goofball tendencies. The hero is a mix between a ruthless badass and a dutyful crusader.

and of course Naruto. Skipping the filler material it is suprisingly better than DBZ. It does not repeat, has actual character development, and the fights are alot better: no staredowns, repeated but seemingly powerful blasts of kamehameha, versatile opponents, who are NOT always stronger and evil.

For something more serious Series Experiment Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Elfenlied are perfect choices.

Check out Berserk while you're at it. Brutal action, medieval horror, incredibly deep plot and characters to match.

I hate azumanga daoh very very very very much. School rumble looks so much better than that and GTO.

Now that my poor chain letter's been killed, I'll be more on-topic:

I never saw much of Dragonball, but I did watch quite a few episodes from Dragonball Z. I got hooked on Androids 17 and 18, they were the most kick-ass characters I'd seen in the series (from the much that I watched). I was pissed when I thought 18 was gone, lol. Cell can kiss a fat ass, never liked him.

Also, another thing: seems like no one's really talking about the "DBZ world domination scheme"... I was expecting to see some hilarious comments about that, lol.
