Simpsons Cast Demand Raise
April 1 » Posted By Adam » Source: NY Daily News
A festering stalemate in contract negotiations between the stars of "The Simpsons" and Rupert Murdoch's Fox Television is threatening to kill the 16th season of the wildly successful animated sitcom. The six top actors who voice the characters of "The Simpsons" - Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Hank Azaria, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith and Harry Shearer have joined in a united front to demand a huge raise from the network. Fox has flatly refused their demands - which Azaria rep Stan Rosenfield yesterday said was simply "to be paid their fair share." The six (who have been earning less than $1 million each per season) want in excess of $8 million per season to stay on the show - which has conservatively earned Fox hundreds of millions of dollars. The six actors have not shown up for two script readings in the past few weeks, holding up production on the upcoming 16th season.
The cast has been working without a contract since November. If they don't get their price, Fox might find itself in the embarrassing predicament at next month's network "upfronts" (where the prime schedules are announced) of being unable to count on "The Simpsons," which long has been the crown jewel of Fox's prime-time schedule. It's huge news indeed, and familiar to The Simpsons Channel which broke a similar story in March 1998. We'll let you know of further developments

That will be sad if The Simpsons arent on TV anymore.TS is one of my favorite shows on Fox besides King Of The Hill.Without The Simpsons Fox's Sunday Night lineup would be bad(Fox acts like King Of The Hill dosent exsist).I dont really care for Malcolm in The Middle and Arrested Development.

Hate to say it but The Simpsons are no longer funny. I couldn't care less if they come back or not. The series has taken a turn for the worse.

I can't remember the last time I got excited to see a new Simpsons episode.

I still laugh at The Simpsons.

While I do think the Simpsons are funny, I still would rather watch the older episodes. If they cancel the Simpsons, then FOX is officially in the dumpster. Ill be happy watching the DVDs, but I will also have no real reason to watch that station anymore.

O yea. But I watch the reruns on a different channel.

I still find the newer episodes funny, but they don't have the greatness, or the classic feel of the older episodes. I've been a Simpsons fan for years, and it'll suck if they stop making new episodes. It's one of the longest running shows in the history of TV, and as a fan of the show, it's good to see it persevering, even though the quality has gone down. I hope this issue will be worked out, and hopefully the quality will improve in the years to come. Though I won't hold my breath.

Now THIS is sucky, crappy news
.
"The Simpsons" is the ONLY show that's among my three top favorites of all time (coincidentally, all of 'em were FOX shows; the other 2 were "Married...with Children" and "The X-Files"), and I was excited when I read last year that they had renewed the show AT LEAST until 2005.
In my opinion, they deserve the pay raise. This show has been the ONLY show to consistently be in the Top 30 primetime shows over the years (American Idol is too new to take into consideration), and for a FOX show, that IS a big deal.
There was this one Simpsons episode where they parodied the financial troubles PBS went through. At the end, a huge donation saved 'em, and one of the persons answering the phones (obviously supposed to be Rupert Murdoch) tells the person on the other side of the phone "Thank you, you've saved my network!" We then see it's Bart and he replies "Wouldn't be the first time."
That says it all. This show has saved their ass since the beginning, and they deserve whatever money they ask for.

I heard about this the other. THat really sucks, but what I don't understand, is how someone who has an easy ass job like talking for a cartton character would ask for so much money??? Shit I would do it for $10. I have a feeling though that a deal will be made

If this happens, I am going to send SO MANY hate letters to the cast. They was 8 mill a season for talking? WTF

This same thing happened a few years ago. Fox sent out talent scouts to 5 cities to cast new voices for the Simpsons, and the cast settled right away.

Eh, I never liked that show much anyway.
Yeah, the new ones are erm.. "different" because they are trying to catch up with Family Guy's hilarity. Like, they've been adding more sex jokes in, such as Bart tellin' his dad he does too much wackin' off, and Homer and Marge gettin' it on.
As much as I like Family Guy, I still think The Simpsons rule. Sure Family Guy is funnier, but theres no way Peter Griffin can keep up with Homer Simpsons antics.

If anything, Family Guy tried to catch up to The Simpson's "hilarity".
And if you think that those kinds of sex jokes just started showing up, then you didn't watch the previous 14 years.

Woah Wait!... Family Guy does some jokes The Simpsons WOULD NEVER do. Hence why I like it more. Its more daring.
Family Guy = Genius.
Simpsons lost the Flair it once had.
