Something I put together to show when I apply for work relating to 3D stuff. In games mainly, that's what I want to do.

You can download the movie from my deviant art page.

Deviant art gallery

On the right hand side of my main page, the links are in the journal entry.

Check it out smile

I still need to make a much better one, but this will hold till then.

See a quick slide show of it here

I made the music in the full movie my self. I don't know much about composing but I wanted to make my own BGM. I think it came out ok.
Prett cool.

Like I said, you should finish some of those models so the demoreel looks better.

Good job.

f'in sweet as usual... how long you been using 3d programs like 3dsmax and maya and sculpting stuff like zbrush? have you ever heard of crazybump....pretty cool normal mapping stuff...
I've seen crazy bump but haven't used it.

I started learning 3ds.Max 3 in school, The American Academy of Art. I got the basic idea there and I've been continuing to learn and improve my stuff since then.

I've been using max for like 6 years, maya on and off for a year, Zbrush for around 3 years. A lot of the stuff I know, the more complex things I learned with the Gnomon and CGAcademy training DVDs.

Now that I have this basic reel ready, I'm going to focus on getting characters totally finished. Textured and Rigged for animation, film quality.

Excellent work as usual. I'm surprised you used the two-legged Motaro instead of your 4-legged one (especially with the walking animation.) I would think that would show off your skill a lot more.

My favourite has to be the vampire face, so much detail!

A while ago you mentioned you were assisting in the character design of an online baseball or football game. How is that going? (or am i mistaken?)

Can you direct link the download for me please? I can't get on deviant art for some reason right now.

The little teaser gif looks excellent though.

===

Just something to read:

You know, I haven't started in with 3DsMax yet, but I just started tooling with Illustrator. I got done with all the "beginner" stuff about a month early and my teacher had to find something for me to do. Really simple program to me because it feels alot like one of the gif animators I've been using for a while now (Ulead). It was extremely easy for me to grasp right off and produce my first demo reel of all the work I did in class. Took about 1:30min or so in class...

I'm not to 3DsMax yet, I think I'll get that in this coming semester in a couple weeks or so. Maya follows that, or is something we get our hands on simultaneously with 3DsMax.

Something else while I'm rambling here, is that even though I'm majoring in graphic arts and animation, they're not really aiming to set me up in video gaming. More towards a professional Graphic Artist than anything. It's just that they cover gaming in the major. Programming, 3D arts, 360degrees around animation, ect...

That's just for my school though. Apparently we're the first or second "Video Gaming Class" of students for them. It's cool so far, but I can't wait to get to the meat of things.

/rambling on...

Great job though bleed, I've been told I'm gonna need a demo reel soon. People don't like paper anymore I guess.

That's not Motaro, it's a devil. Go here to see.
The reel is Here.

Maya and Max are awesome programs, it's good or great if you know them both. That and a game engine like the Unreal Editor. It's very important to know what the companies are working with, so they don't have to waste so much time trying to teach you. If you don't get it quick, you're out.

If you learn one program, learning the others is pretty easy.

Ahhh, okay, yea bleed you are exceptional. lol

I just got Max and Maya...and Poser. haha...

Pretty sure now I'm an animator, but I'll be able to tell better after some more training, and some more good "quality time" spent in the programs. I'm good with geometry, but I don't know my tolerance for it yet is the thing.

That was an awesome reel though.

anyway, back to work I guess.

Here's another one of that 3D guy I posted before.
I'm skinning the 3D fighter I'm making, setting all that up for animation.

Here is a quick test animation of how it's looking so far.

It will play fast if you download the .gif and play it off your hard drive using the quick time video player.

Holy crap that's dope bleed.

It's a little freaky at first because of how real he's moving. Looks really natural so far though. Surprise to me that it's only 14 frames.

I can't wait to see a walking animation or a basic special move pose.

This is that Shang Tsung model isn't it?
Yeah, this guy came from the shang concept I was making earlier. It just turned in to this.

I just need to make the costume and put it on this guy.

For sure I'll be getting him in to Mugen, to make my own game. Maybe tonight I can start making sprites.

What I'd like to to eventually is get more of my 3D models in to a custom Mugen game. The werewolf would be cool I think, and that Zangief model I have. The jade concept I posted years ago as fan art on this site.

That would be great seeing them in their own video game. Wish I had a spare million dollars to fund it
EDIT: BTW great new sig/avy Pred
I put a little clip of how I'm working on this in 3ds. max. Just showing some of the rig. I got started on bringing him in to mugen, just the fighting stance for now.

That's so cool seeing him in mugen. Did you say mugen was able to hold a whole array of different moves ie: it doesn't have to just be the standard 2xpunch, 2xkick, block, etc?
Mugen has a lot of flexibility, you can set the buttons pretty much how ever you want.

Only thing that really bothers me, is the low resolution I have to work with. I want to make the sprites HD, but they show up huge when I import them in to mugen.

There is Mugen HD, but that's only for the backgrounds I think.

I'm not sure what to do for the button lay out still, but I have a few requirements in mind.

Easy to understand across the board on a basic level.

Logical, but not too restrictive

All 8 directions on a d.pad are used like in DOA.

Moves done from many different states, like in most 3D fighters. While rising moves, Wake up moves, Side Step moves, Hop moves, Moment just before jumping, jumping moves, and extra moves from different stances that flow in and out by way of offense and defense.

The feel of the game should lean towards 3D fighters, like making VF, Tekken or DOA in 2D.

It sounds fantastic. who knows how to make a great fighting game but the fans themselves?
It's debatable, but with all the ideas I've posted over the years in game play threads to make MK and other games better, in my view. It's more satisfying to make my own game instead, now that I have the ability to do so.

Then there's every body else's views I can take in to consideration.
Updated the skinning and made a new stance animation.

Image

I took a look at real fighters Muay Thai stance to help with the animation.

New stance animation
I did a quick paint over of the Thai fighter in Photoshop, to see what an alternate costume might look like.

I always loved your work, doode. I ESPECIALLY love Sinister. wink If only I had the money for Max and Maya. heh. The animation looks nice. Are you planning to do some more advanced stuff like short and simple techniques?
