Jerrod, a lot of what drove fakes from 2001-2007ish was the replication fakes. What I mean by that is taking the various designs from MKDA-MKA and replicating the designs into the 2D plane of the original Kombats.

Now, with MKvsDC, the only sprites I'm seeing for the DC characters are either A) old sprites or B) Street Fighter-esque sprites. Neither fit correctly with the flow of the traditional 2D MK plane.

Sure, if someone were to make a sprite of Superman or something with the realistic qualities of Superman, I would give them props for doing it... but I'm not going to make/finish a fake of MKvsDC nature..

But why should the making of those fakes stop just because of MKvDC? It's not like every variation of the original 2D characters from those games has been replicated into a fake,and it's not like every one of those new 3D characters exist in 2D sprite sheets either. Why isn't anyone making a fake of Darrius versus Noob-Smoke? How come nobody has tried making an image of Mileena in her alternate outfit performing her head-rip fatality? The concept of Goro's limb-rip fatality has been around for years (who hasn't thought of Goro ripping off all four limbs in one shot before MKD made it a reality), but I don't see anyone trying to replicate that either.
Another untapped well is MKSM; why do all the fakes have to be limited to the fighters and not the adventure games? There was a concept for an entire level in MKSM that was scrapped but I don't see anyone trying to make their own version of it here, or try to make fakes to replicate and improve on the boss battles of that game.
Even parody fakes based on MK Special Forces can be created, featuring Jax pummelling the likes of No-Face, Tasia, or Tremor while reciting cheesy lines.
Surely something can be done with all this material.

It's not presumptuous at all, and I really hope I'm not coming off as an asshole with what I'm saying, but how can you guys talk about needing inspiration to make something new, but then start talking about making replicas of what already exists?
It's hard for me to believe that you guys want to make something nobody has ever seen before, but at the same time, talk about copying things that people have seen over and over again. Making a 3D model into a 2D sprite is difficult and requires skill, I'm not arguing about that, and I don't want to make the work you guys do seem insignificant because it is a tremendous task, but you aren't making something that's completely your idea. You're taking an idea that's already out there and transforming it into what it would've been if it had been made 10 years earlier. If you want to make something nobody has seen before, how is making a replica fulfilling that?
If you really wanted to make something that was outrageous and that nobody had seen before, then you'd make your own concepts for moves, fatalities, character designs, practically everything, without needing a new game to guide you.

You might have misunderstood. MKR and I were expressing two differing opinions. I don't personally think replications are needed nor are they important these days. I'm for making something new. I was just agreeing with MKR in saying that the ideas you expressed weren't that exciting or inspiring. (no offense, I'm sure others don't feel the same way).

Again, I think you're mistaking two different people's opinions. Probably my fault for not being more elaborate in my last post.

I think you're taking the word "inspiration" the wrong way. You use a new game to help get the creative process going, which births new and outrageous ideas not necessarily reflecting what originally inspired you. You can't always pull ideas out of thin air, you need things to spark them off and take you in new directions (though not necessarily "guiding" you as you said.)
Where MKvsDCU fails in that is the fact that the everything MK in this new game (from the character designs, to arenas, to fatalities, even down to the roster itself) isn't very fresh. It's stuff we've seen countless times before (because the MK team are aiming for "iconic"). Of course you could argue "well don't let this new game stop you from making fakes, find inspiration somewhere else!" But it's not really that easy. Plus lots of us are lazy, and it's not much fun racking your brains for something that you don't really take that seriously anyway.
Also, it's hard to get MK-related inspiration from DC characters without actually making an MKDCU fake, which I personally don't feel up to doing right now.

I think it happen as soon as you turn on your computer and decided to log in. Anyways, a Fake Pic Kontest is underway. MKRocket and myself have discussed it, and i'd suggest people to start brainstorming some ideas to get ready.

Yes, I was confused, I thought you were agreeing with Rocket on the replica aspect as well. Those are the only ideas I really have when it comes to fakes, as the only fakes I have seen have been on this site (I've also seen bags of potato chips).
