if you translate this article into English, it says that relatively new martial arts star Iko Uwais is reportedly being looked at for the new MK movie. Iko Uwais has starred in two Indonesian action films, Merantau and The Raid, both directed by Gareth Evans. trailers are below for those who want to take a look. Merantau is on DVD now in the US, and The Raid will be released theatrically by Sony in the US, reportedly in early 2012 sometime.

Interesting...Never heard of that guy or seen his movies. From the looks of the trailers,he is very talented martial artist, but i dunno about his look,Liu Kang should be Chinese, not Indonesian.

hm...

He looks very good in action sequences. Seems talented enough to get the job done. For looks, he almost explicitly resembles MKSM Liu Kang.

Maybe have him lift weights, gain a couple pounds (Liu Kang doesn't need to be huge...he never was. this guy is really small though), grow his hair a little, and change into Liu Kang attire and they'd be almost identical.

That's the kind of casting I like to see. He definitely looks the part and he's got the skills. I just hope they don't do something stupid like casting him as Sub-Zero because he's got the perfect look for Liu Kang.

Not really a problem. Chinese are not genetically as homogenous, he could vary from Hakka to Manchu, since Liu is not defined further as Chinese.

And since communist China did some major relocations of ethnicity forcibly mind you during Maoism, it is entirely probable that he could come from anywhere.

But the looks could become a problem.

Probably you are right. For me perfect Liu Kang is Shin Koyamada, but that's just me. If this news is true,I wouldn't be disappointed.
