There were preview images of the 4" figures; they looked awful too.

I'm both happy and sad by the possibility that the line is cancelled. Happy because it means there's room for a better company to obtain the license, and sad because the 4" ninjas didn't look too bad. Hopefully NRS or WB (not sure which company handles merchandise rights) will give the license to someone else rather than throw in the towel and not let anyone else make MK figures.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they throw in the towel. Eventhough MK9 has been really successful, it would take months to produce prototypes and a year before we get them. In other words, we're screwed :(

YAY!!!

Good job and thanks for the heads up!

As much as I dislike their wave 1 of MK9 figures and as much as I feel personally insulted by their horrible figures (particularly Johnny's monkey face and Raiden's giraffe neck), I still have faith in them.

Their MK: Shaolin Monks wave was beautiful! Sure, they are not the best action figures ever, but, that wave was really impressive and the quality in the designs was jaw-dropping, specially when compared to their first weak MKD line.

I think they can do it an I'm hoping they surprise us with new awesome looking MK characters.

Plus, I want my Sonya figure. NOW.

It's been forever.

Thank god. Maybe the dude at my toy shop just heard about the loss of the 4'' Raiden and took it as a bad sign.

At any rate, I'm happy to hear this is not the case.

Come on, Jazwares. I've got your Goro, Liu Kang, two Cages, two Scorpions, two Sub-Zeroes, Raiden, Reptile, and Kano.

-Give me the final of the original 7. Let's have a nice Sonya figure for me to complete that set (and give Queve an orgasm).

And for the love of criminy, give Jax a figure! And Shang!

How unfortunate sad

More wasted plastic and another year for the licence to be kept from another company that would actually make something decent.

Hopefully history will repeat itself and Jazwares will make subsequent waves better than the first. I'd be happy if they made Bi-Han (before becoming Noob Saibot) to go with Kuai Liang.

BigBadToyStore's recent newsletter:

Jazwares has announced two new exclusive MK9 assortments, one each of 6" and 4" figures, with some previously-announced figures making an appearance. The 6" case of 6 includes two each of Sub-Zero & Scorpion, along with one each of Reptile and Jax, and is priced at $94.99 ($15 off the MSRP). The 4" assortment includes three each of Sub-Zero & Scorpion, along with two each of Reptile, Raiden and Baraka; we have them available as a case of 12 for $119.99, as well as a set of 5 for $59.99.

So, more confirmation on that new 6'' Jax and Reptile, and a 4'' Baraka is to be added to this elusive, oft-delayed line.

A 6'' Jax figure. HELL. YES.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease look good...

Smoke is grey - Sub Zero is blue, if they make Cyber Smoke blue then what color would they make Cyber Sub Zero- Pink? lol I know what u mean about the purple/blue tint on Smoke in MK Trilogy but that coloring wasn't intentional, Smoke is grey and yes they should make everyone although it would take them 20 years to do that...

Son, you be trippin'. Cyber-Smoke is indigo on purpose.
See, Human Smoke had skin showing, so even though his costume was monochrome, he would still look like a normal character.
But Cyber-Smoke, he don't got no skin. His ENTIRE BODY would've been only shades of black and white. He'd have looked awful in a whole world of colors, being the only character with no color on his entire body.
Thus, they made him bluish-purple to make him not look desaturated and out of place. They even kept him the same in Deception, even though they had gained the ability to show more details and colors and put red lights and silver metal all over him, because that's what color he's supposed to be, he's gray as a human ninja, but he's known as the purple robot, not the gray robot.
So if they make a toy or statue of Smoke as a cyborg, he's gotta be the color he is in the games. It wasn't "unintentional", he's supposed to be bluish-purple.
Anyway, the one on the TRU site seems close to the color of his game sprites to me. I mean, a shade paler or closer to purple wouldn't hurt but I feel like that's nitpicking, it's not a bright skyblue like Cyber Sub-Zero or anything. Hard to be sure what it'll look like in person anyway, you can't trust internet images. I've noticed that toys always seem different colors in person than they do in promotional beauty shots. I bet that Cyrax isn't nearly as flourescent looking in person, for instance.

Speaking of coloration, this is old, but it deserves to be stated again just how superior and polished all the retro costumes in MK9 look when they're selected with the START button. The metallic finish on the cyber-ninjas is especially beautiful, Cyrax looks stunning.

Speaking of polish, I think the pic up on the TRU website makes these figures look a little bit better than the first pic showed; observe the red vertical lining on Sektor's forehead above his eyes, for instance. The silver wash seems to be a bit more visible on the whole to me; Cyrax does look florescent, not so in the original pic. Experience tells me that figures look way better in-hand than most preview images show anyway; I get the feeling I'll be happy with these. Could be better, but not awful on the whole.

I dunno, promotional pictures always have the best paint job possible. Individual figures in person can have sloppy paint apps (Deception Noob had a lot of this problem, areas of gray weren't even lined up with where they were supposed to go), and if you're into Transformers for example, Hasbro has this habit of making every single toy they release look shiny or metallic in shots, and in person that's clearly not the case.

Wouldn't really say 'best 'in the case of TF though, those are doctored straight into the realm of unbelievability. I don't know how much disillusionment children out there have suffered upon removing their figure from the packaging only find that the sunlight doesn't shine and gleam off every possible surface of the figure. Lord knows I felt that way when I was young.

It's one reason I really don't believe in judging figures by either promo shots or boxart; it can be totally unrepresentative or just plain off, depending on who's behind the camera or photoshop tools. I appreciate it when companies just use official artwork and let us judge the figures for ourselves (see ML 3.75 line for how I think it should be done).

If I need a reference, I look for fan-taken photos of figures revealed at conventions. They just unveiled a 3.75 Marvel Universe Prof. X at NYCC, and a pic someone took pretty much has me sold on this figure. There's something that's just lost in promo shots as a result of all the jazzing-up they do.

It's not just promo shot paint jobs, touched-up or otherwise, that can make figures seem underwhelming at times. Jazwares just didn't take the time to make sure Raiden was equipped properly; the initial shot made it seem like his hat was balanced precariously atop the crown of his head, but it fits very snugly onto mine. When I broke my figures out of their packages, I was way happier with most of them than I thought I'd be. My only problems now are Cage's head and Sub's eyes.

Related: I'm still trying to find a proper black Deception Noob so I can paint over my grey one and call it his shadow clone.

Shadaloo I agree with the post before your last one about seeing it in person but with you being Smokes like number one fan on here(while Smoke is one of my faves as well) wouldnt you be dissapointed to a Cyber Sub Zero if you see it in person? If it is CSZ though I'll buy another two pack and repaint him light greyish purple for his MK3 look.

I got ya. And I have to agree, he does look a tad too much on the blue side. It's not purple enough.

Well, we're still getting a 4'' pack of human ninjas too; I'm perfectly fine taking the human as my requisite Smoke, and I can take this cyber-ninja as either Smoke or CSZ depending on the day of the week, I guess. It would help if they came with accessories. Again though, Cyrax didn't look quite so glowy in the first shot, so maybe this one's too light. Sektor does seem to be a shade of salmon.

Man, I can't wait to have these things just to see for myself.

in MK3 -before MK Trilogy- cyber Smoke is grey, it makes sense that he's grey- u know cos of the whole Smoke thing! why would he transform into a purple robot? -your reasoning made no sense what so ever so I'm ending that topic discussion now- it's not that big a deal to me so if it is to you then by all means convince yourself he turns into a purple robot but now because of Ryans requests on Facebook- Jazwares have made him blue (originally they were going to make him grey) so nice one!

Human Smoke is the important and better Smoke anyhow and he is grey, but it's Quan Chi, Stryker, Skarlet, Kabal and Kenshi figures I want them to make, chances are the line will expire before those cool characters ever get made- same old story...

JAZWARES - MAKE QUAN CHI and STRYKER!!!!

Err, nope.

He appeared grey on the SNES and Genesis versions of MK3, but the arcade and PSX ports did indeed have him in a shade of purple.

Official artwork also depicts him in that grey shade, but it just didn't coincide with the game's depiction.

if you have the last word-that won't make it come true, Smoke is Grey- because of...Smoke- DUH, they diddn't deliberatelly put out some grey robot Smokes for some versions of the game and some indigo robot Smokes intentionally -ask Ed Boon and he will tell you that, Midway were well known for making mistakes like that, for what purpose would they make the grey ninja turn into an indigo robot- major DUH to you guys!
