Now that we have the simple profile of each movie can we please try to figure out the stuff that made the first movie one of the best video-game to movie movies and the sequel an inevitable stinker???

The reason why the movie was so fucked up... if you noticed, Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation had two different directors. Paul Anderson (Resident Evil, Soldier, Castlevania) put his say-so in the first movie, while John R. Leonetti (Hot Shots Part Deux, The Woods, The Mask) did the second one. John R. Leonetti is most known for doing mere comedy-like movies. Paul Anderson, was always a kid at heart who loves to turn video games into fantasy-like big screen media. There was honestly no better man for the job and he couldn't have been more excited when he was offered to direct the first MK movie. He wasn't around to do the second movie because he was caught in the middle of directing two films at once: Soldier, and Event Horizon. John R. Leonetti took his place and left a bad taste as we all can see. My suggestion is that they get the man with the serious vision of martial arts, Yuen Woo Ping, direct this third movie. For those who don't know who Yuen Woo Ping is, he is the man behind most of all the Matrix films, and directed the all-time favorite "Iron Monkey." His work is also displayed in the Jet Li classic, "Kiss Of The Dragon."

Alright now. I commend you sir for a simple, cut an dry break down of this movie info. And even though this thread is barely a month old, Armagon, thank you for bumping this one. I needed to see this and didn't have a clue of where to get all the stats myself. Anyway, This is exactly what I'm gettin at. Based on the info here it seems we were dooped in the first movie. Hype over the game takes a great toll on the money they made on that one. We all went to the 1st Movie and expected to see the game in action. Which we got moslty. We got the story close enough to the games', the right characters, a couple cool fight scenes, and 1 or 2 pretty o.k. fatalities. Where's the doop? No blood, gore, and PG13? What? Since when is anything MK o.k. to be Parental Guided? "Ahh whatever it was a good flick. It still had enough wow to please." $$Ching, ching$$ MK you got us that time. But what about doopin' us next time? You gotta step ya game up the next time...and they didn't. They tried to use the same formula to make the second movie with the new, waaay wrong director. They didn't focus on the fav characters enough (remember scorpion in the 1st movie? How much time did you see him for in the second one? In and out right?) by that time and they deviated from the game's sequence of events enough to put a sour taste in everybodies mouth. Story and characters were jeopordized in this movie. Still got a couple of o.k. fight scenes and 1 or 2 half o.k. fatalities, but who cares who's fighting after the story and characters are all jacked up. No $$ this time, it wasn't better than the first so it was worse. Moreso, other video game based movies started to spawn and outdo MK. We expected more of what we got from the other video game movies plus MK, not just another MK movie. Which is what they gave us, what they thought would work. Take a poll.....put out a servey.....read these threads!! Understand why we want what we want....and execute. So you see, the small disappointments in the first movie carried over into the second and were then expanded on. That's where you dooped us and that's the boo boo that was made. This next one has to now (be): 1. Better than the average "cool" action flick. Not to mention the martial arts incorporated in all those movies. 2. Better than all the other video game based movies. Even some the marvel stuff. (I know they got more money to throw around) 3. Better than the previous two movies enough for us to foregive and foreget the mistakes that were made in the last two. 4. Rated R, this was one flaw that didn't even make sense to any-one fan. 5. Exercise the blood, gore, special moves, and fatalities more. It's o.k. people want something to "talk" about. MK is perfect for this discussion. Be 50 cent(the rapper) for this movie. I mean make everybody political hate you for giving us the raw essence of MK. Negativity sells, cut it out with trying to dumb it down for the younger audiences. Just make the movie. 6. Expliot the women fighters.(go to the mall--how many stores [things there period] cater to males anymore). Look at Kill Bill, Electra, Catwoman(eeu!), AeonFlux,Underworld 1&2 the movies, ect,ect There's more lady fighters, face it--we like ladies that kill. 7. Have GREAT Special Effects and all that relate to special effects. Not medioker, not just good---Great. This is mainly where the men fighters should be exploited, show us what they do--more. That ice globe thing for SubZero in the first movie was great but it will not suffice now. Same for like Scorpion...have you seen the ads for the Ghost Rider?? here: What Scorpion Should Aspire to Look Like in the Movie Compared to MK1 That's Scorpion baby!! Watch the trailer!! Oh shxx right!!? 8. Story correct. This is what everybodys stay or leave is about. If the story ain't right.....fuuck it. 9. Exploit the "secrecy". Show everyone, in the movie, that certain things are absolutly not supposed to be there or be happening. Just like what it feels like in the game. Kinda happened in the first flick with Reptile, everybody went crazy over the Kang vs Reptile fight in the theatre I went to. Do it with the current secrets. 10. Have a better script. This I say lightly just because the better the 1-9 the less the actors have to talk. Martial artist as actors/actresses don't need to say a whole bunch. And the little congienial jokes and such ain't gonna fly anymore. I don't wanna feel like I'm watchin a B rated movie by how they say what they say. C'mon. That's about it that I can think of. My input and opinions don't change much... feel free to comment.
