NetherRealm Studios Chief Creative Officer Ed Boon spent the weekend in sunny São Paulo last Sunday, but it was all business as he attended the Omelete Stage at CCXP2023 to drop some major teases for Mortal Kombat 1! There are big things coming in 2024! Read on for more:

Hot on the heels of the official Quan Chi & Khameleon Gameplay Trailer, Ed Boon confirmed suspicions that there will be a "second part, with more story" some time in the near future, similar to the Story Mode extension featured with Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath.

It's been well established that Mortal Kombat 1 is to have the longest cycle of post-release downloadable content support of any NetherRealm Studios game to date after MK11 set a new benchmark with Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate. The final release stretched the experience to 13 additional characters, with the developer's first foray into downloadable story modes, multiple new arenas, and various other updates supplied over almost two years of support.

The conclusion of Mortal Kombat 1's multiversal timeline collision implies the next chapter of the story may feature a Havik with Titan powers, which could spell even more chaos for the series after a pretty wild ride, but that's not all!

Ed Boon also teased "a big surprise after that", reiterating that MK1 will enjoy the longest duration of post-release support of any title. What does that surprise entail? Your guess is as good as ours. The CCO wasn't giving away any more clues, leaving it at that in a clip widely shared through X (aka; Twitter) social media via Wesley Carlos [embedded below].

We're assuming promised quality of life updates will happen sooner than then. So what do you think is next for the MK1 story? What do you hope the big surprise might be? Share your speculation in the comments below and go deeper into discussion in the Mortal Kombat 1 category!
