They used to make these paper rectangles called "magazines" that you could acquire by trading other paper rectangles called "money". They often were adorned with words which, when assembled, gave the reader tips on how to discover secret things in video games. These "magazines" were very popular before the internet killed all need for them.

What other versions of kart games, chess games, or puzzle games have Fatalities incorporated into them. I mean I'd play Puzzle Kombat anyday over basic Tetris or Dr. Mario. Also, Mario Kart has never really been that good, Diddy Kong Racing is the only TRUE good kart game I've ever played in which I want to play again over and over; which MK should think about redoing Kombat Kart based on this style. I thought they were EPICLY unique, yeah I don't originally play a MK game just to play addictive little puzzles/racing but it does give a good change of things, especially to balance all the complete gore on the fighting side of things.

So if someone bought magazines which usually contained Kombat codes then what was the good of the slots game?

Why do you always have to be a smartass about everything? Why are you even here if you are going to be so negative

Nice vid.. The only mini game I would like to see returning is Test Your might. That one is classic and short. There is absolutely no need for other more complex mini games (like puzzle, motor or konquest) because it only takes away production time. The concept of konquest is great. But don’t cut production time to make a mini game with poor graphics out of it. But rather create a fully stand alone RPG out of it or something.

Don’t get me wrong. This doesn’t mean I don’t want to see anything other then Test your might. I’m open for lots of different game modes like endurance mode, survival mode or tournament mode and stuff. But make them focused on the main thing which is fighting.

Yes, had a bit of fun with that bit. You're the first to comment on it, glad you enjoyed it.
To answer your question, here's a vid that shows it in action. It's nothing spectacular, which is why I hadn't covered it any more deeply than I did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1AyQ3uDLr4

No, that wasn't a joke at all - 8 on 8 is really in the SNES port of MK3 - hold L+R and press start, just like the 4 on 4 code for MKII SNES. 9-on-9 is from MK3 PC.

Completely agree.

And as for Boon's comment, i hope we get to see a little more actual game footage or maybe an exert from story mode before he focuses on releasing info on mini games.

I don't know why people think there's been this big change in me. I have never kissed Midway or NRS' ass and I have never been content to accept whatever crap they try and pass off as Mortal Kombat. I am always critical but I'm not always negative. It only seems that way because so many other people are optimistic to the point of stupidity.
I am critical of the series because I want them to make it better and I hope they're capable of doing so.

With the whole new system and this game specifically focused on PS3 and X-Box 360, we could see all these return (this is like a compliation for like the 3rd time now):

updated versions of each and put in a Arcade Gallery (If Wii carnival-style games can hold so much so can this):

* Test Your Might - Instead of chopping blocks, bricks, rubys, etc. let them simply lift weights and it gets heavier throughout gameplay also shows them struggling to lift them; harder for some females like Kitana

* Test Your Sight - Could be a new game like Wack-a-Mokap

* Test Your Fight - replace MKvDCU's Combo Challenges

* Pong - needs to be a 3D version showing each fighter actually playing

* Galaga Remix - in place of the one where u earn more/different guns

* Khan's Treasures - needs a 3D walkthrough format where the character u beat the game with walks in front of the chest and opens it similar to Konquest Mode in MKD that is after you beat the game, the 1st shows a full 3D ending, the last is a Super Endurance that awards a hidden character if you complete it ALL without dying once; or simply turn this into: Khan's Roulet Wheel with different things on it along with suprises.

* Slot Machine - simple but could work

* Puzzle Kombat - could have new 3D version like Tetrishere

* Kombat Kart Racing - could be as advanced as using Portals to enter worlds similar to Diddy Kong Racing

* Chess Kombat - update with characters/backgrounds

* MK Trilogy - with Tremor as an extra SU and both Classic Kung Lao/Jax have both MK2 Fatalities; only 2 bottom arms for Sheeva.

* Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Fire & Ice - something tells me that this is a very big possibility or they'd have never told us what we WERE gonna get; great publicity and this would be the time for it and why it's not released and why there's no actual Konquest Mode this time, but not going to hold breathe.

Or...

And this is just me talking out loud here...

They could focus on making the best Mortal Kombat game instead of irrelevant diversions.

Are you even an MK fan? Yeah you should make a great game, but mini games have ALWAYS been in MK. Even back in the good games. So they should most definately bring them back. Why are you always so negative?

Pong was also in MK3, at least on the Genesis. You had a screen before it where it claimed you'd get a "preview of the next generation of fighting games" or something, then Pong would come up with "MK4" written in the center.

I would like the mini games to incorporate the actual fighting engine, give us time trials or something. The old kung fu movie thing could work like this.

I'm actually pretty glad they haven't said much in the way of side modes for the new MK game. To be honest I hated almost every mini game mode they had in the previous few games ( as far back as DA). I've always felt it took development time away from the core game.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be any. MK just isn't the same without at least test your might, and some other Easter egg game like pong. But full blown mini game modes I'll be happy to not see in the new game when it comes out.

I dont think anyone has posted this but

what do all of you fine Mortal Kombat enthusiasts think about inKorporating a free-flow fighting engine for the "Kung Fu like" mini game?

One similar to that of Batman Arkham Asylum's free-flow kombat. One button striking, one button Kountering (no block) with buttons for special moves.

If you have not played this style of fighting, please rent the game. It is exceptional.

Also, if you have played BAA, then imagine Scorp, Sub, or even Sonya (for you Queve!!) kicking the living S#^% out of 5-10-20 ninja thugs at the same time with this style of gameplay.

Throw in a fatality here and there and you have the best mini game MK has ever produced.

Thank you for your time, it is very good to finally be here.grin
I think minigames built around the main fighting engine is a good idea. A little action game destroying ninjas could be lots of fun. I also like the QTEs, and think they could fit well into minigames.

LOL, thanks for the mention on your "Sonya" part.

Also, this concept sounds really cool. I actually haven't seen/heard of this before. You've got any youtube links?

Wow, to get a response from you is like getting an autograph from Nolan Ryan around these parts! wow Look at me I'm gushinggrin

Here is a link for a taste of the fighting style I am talking about:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZfMVbj4BN0

As you watch the vid, keep in mind that the free flow engine is very simple. The monumental @$% Kicking that Batman is dishing out is pulled off with just 2-3 buttons. It is very satifying.

Now, after the vid, imagine that hot blonde in the Bat's place blowing kisses and pink rings left and right! Oh, I just get tingles all over.

Side note:
This forum is great! Obviously, I did some reading before making my first post (what every new forumite should do imho) and I just love how most people here analyze topics and ideas, break them down, and then add suggestions to develop further. This is what a forum should do. I love it.

I come from reading the Fight Night Champion Forums and I just had to quit before getting a brain aneurysm. Everyone there is supremely negative even though the demo is great.

Thanks for the interest! wow Long Live Mortal Kombat!!!! furious

I'd love to see chess again in the same fashion, that was always fun. Although the alternate game mode that person mentioned using Btaman's combat system would be badass. Only problem is it might take awhile to design/program a separate moveset for every character since i'd imagine all the moves would have to function or flow differently
