You know why gamers don't take Mortal Kombat seriously? Because of things like this. NRS is making a mockery of their own creation. If they can't take the game seriously, then how is anyone else going to take it seriously?

Think about it... Mortal Kombat will remain a joke of a game if NRS keeps this up.

Me? I don't really mind Freddy being in the game. (pure mk lol) It's just that I don't understand it fully.

But why? For Casual fans?

No one will be buying the game JUST to play as Freddy Krueger, so if that's the case, it's only appealing to casual fans that already own the game.

Maybe if I put an add up for, say... Havik on the Xbox dashboard as DLC for MK, the person who owns the game will see that, and might even check out a trailer or something.

Now, granted, they might not. So the easiest way to hook them is to put a character that WB owns, a fairly popular one at that, in the game, so that when it is advertised, people will be like "No way, I like that character" and they might buy him based off of the property that he comes from.

Now, and this is where I don't understand, and I'm good with lists, so

1: Freddy Krueger? Batman would make a hell of a lot more money, because he has got a game coming out (a popular one) the teaser for a very anticipated movie out (also very popular).

I don't think Freddy is very relavent right now. Some casual fans might see that and go "What? Why?" and might not get it at all. Batman is a different story.

Hell even Voldemort (who they would give special treatment, thats for sure) is more popular than Freddy Krueger right now.

2: WB wants to make money off of MK. That is probably the biggest reason why they bought it out (Duh). Maybe you should start by giving it it's own two legs.

Make money off the property itself. Having a "guest character" (Kratos excluded, cause thats Sony, not WB) to make money off of it and appeal to a broader fanbase (Which Batman would do nicely. Not Freddy) is just WB trying to get more money, which, to me, is not bad. All big companies do it, but this kinda leads into 3

3: All the hype? Why? Mystery character? You get him for free with the season pass as it is. I think a better marketing strategy would be

Drop the "Mystery fourth DLC character". Release him Augusty 2nd and be done with it. As far as I'm concerned, the only people who got the season pass were probably a little more then casual fans, otherwise they wouldn't of had faith that MK could deliver good characters. If they were casual and they did think that, there is still no reason to make him such an "enigma"

Also, the only people at SDCC that would've walked a little out of there way to the gamestop today were probably interested in MK. Probabhly the type of fans that didn't care for Freddy.

Release him when he is ready, and promote him then. No season pass over hype bullshit, which, in the end, did not make them more money.

Nope I wouldn't really care. It's their decision to download the pack. If I can't play as Cyber Smoke then fine I'll just use a different Cyborg. No MK2 Kitana? Then I'll just use Mileena instead. No Skarlet? No problem since Mileena in her Alternate costume will do just fine. The point is there are other characters you can choose if you can't choose a DLC costume/character. Getting all pissy because someone didn't download an optional patch is pretty sad.



Glad Sonyas' 2p Alternates' hair is a little bit more reddish so it can add to your enjoyment

If you read the posts, it's pretty obvious the pro-guest side is more fueled by spite against other fans than actual love for Freddy.

There's only two installments of the Freddy Franchise that were really good. Even as a child when I still enjoyed these films, I still knew the second and fifth movie were complete shit. When people say they love Freddy or Jason, they're usualy not saying they love a set movies, they're saying they love a nostalgic icon which represents part of their upbringing... I guess?

At least that explains why the enthusiasts are completely disregarding that this version of Freddy is the most irrelevant and badly executed version. I'm really surprised that doesn't matter to people. If I wanted Godzilla as a guest character, and I got the Roland Emmerich version from 1998, I'd be kinda pissed. And if I'm not pissed... what does that really say about me and my attitude towards godzilla?

I do not disrespect any MK fan for wanting Freddy, liking Freddy, or plan on playing as Freddy. I just personally think that he is a waste of space. I also think Kratos is a waste of space. Love God of War games. Absolutely love them, but Kratos does not need to be in this game. But I will say that he is better in it than Freddy. Yes that is my honest opinion. A lot may disagree but personally I think he fits better.

100% agree.. was just on a MvsC3 board where another poster said he'd rather buy MK than the new UMvsC3 and he was pretty much blasted and told by others MK was ass. Don't agree myself but a lot of people think this way.

and maybe its good people don't take MK seriously, it's lack of seriousness is what makes it great and different from the other fighting games. its still world famous and a lot of the characters are easily identifiable even by people who have never played the games before, if you show someone who isn't big on videogames picture of a light blue ninja they'll go "isn't that the one game from that fighting game? subzero or something?"
