I clicked the "reply" button. Then I just starred blankly at this white text box for a while.

I don't know what to say. I'm not even saying that in the cliche sense. I truly don't know what I'm suppose to type after reading that.

You know, I love how when Smoke turns into a cyborg, he gets ditched for 8 years, but when Sub gets automated, he gets to stick around and sip Bacardi with all his buddies throughout story mode. I'm not even surprised, actually.

Razor called it, guys. Smokes minimal story had nothing to do with him being a cyborg and everything to do with him being a supporting cast member at the mercy of biased developers. Honestly, I don't even mind what they did with Smoke. It's more than I expected, and I'm grateful for this much.

But that doesn't excuse any of this other shit. Raiden's changes? CHANGES!?!?

So does Smoke get a fair showing in the story mode from what you all have read?

So do we know if we can turn the blood or battle damage off from the data we got? Is it an option, because it's not in the demo. Also, since we know about Cyber-Sub, do we know what Mileena's "Best...Alternate...Ever!!" is yet?

Eh...if I'm still here.

I've been wrestling with what to do with myself now that the old Mortal Kombat timeline is basically dead. I mean, that's all I ever came here for, to talk about that canon. What purpose would posting on MKO serve me once this game comes out and all anyone's ever going to be bringing up from then on until the rest of forever is the shit that's in THIS game, when all I will be wanting to talk about is Cryomancer armors and the Champion of the Elder Gods and that time Kano became the General?

I guess I could just retreat to a little corner of the Fan Submissions board and live in denial, writing and drawing my own little bits and pieces of unfinished "Armageddon sequel" ideas for the next few years.

I have to see this through to the end, bro. At this point,I'm too invested in this game to the point where I can't even concentrate on anything else.

Once it comes out,I'll explore its every nook and cranny, down to the last koffin of the Krypt. If the new story is truly irredeemable,at least I owe it to myself to do an autopsy and find out what killed it.

And hey,I'm sure I'll enjoy the soundtrack and,you know, the actual fighting, too. I'll probably even find things to like in the actual story. Hell,I found things to like about the story even in fucking Shaolin Monks.

Although I've been entertaining myself with the idea of exiling myself to the unholy wastelands of the Fan Submission, and it's starting to look better by the minute.

Man... Somehow, not even Armageddon hurt this bad.

Well,

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
He gets quite a bit of screen time it seems, but he doesn't do anything really important. Still I appreciate seeing him interact with other characters. I never though I'd see Smoke and Raiden having a conversation together.

For crying out loud, this isn't as if the world would have ended...

Personally, if I would be pressured into writing a story stricktly accordingly to the first two installments with only the most meager deviations "allowed" by the unpleasable fanbase I would do the same.

Get one thing right: the author has absolute freedom to do what he or she wishes with it's brainchild, consequences and who finds what in whatever taste/distaste are a different matter altogether.

I know that exact feeling, because I had it like you wouldn't believe...until last night.

After I read through and posted all that script summary stuff, I sat and thought over all the stuff I'd just read for a few hours, and the feeling was gone.

I'm kinda numb to the whole concept of Mortal Kombat all of a sudden. And I don't think I've been numb to Mortal Kombat since I was ten years old. Shaolin Monks, Armageddon, and MKvsDCU didn't faze my fandom, I found a ton of shit to like in the stories of those games. But this, all of a sudden? I think the last time I felt this specific combination of emotions or lack thereof, I'd just dumped a girl I'd been seeing for a year and a half.

I know that sounds incredibly lame, to compare an interpersonal relationship to a hobby/fandom, but I don't fall out of love with things or people very often, so that's all the range of experience I've got for comparison-making.

A few people are bringing up her absence in the "leak" doc. This is one of the biggest mysteries in the game, but found nowhere? Does this not add to the possibility that the doc is at least "edited", if not a HUGE hoax?

Congratulations, you are now where I was when this game was first announced.

Expect seething bitterness, contempt, and resentment, that will eventually give way to extreme Schadenfreude over the franchise's failings.

This.

Wasn't the same since last night.

Giddy excitement is gone, and all I have left is grim determination.

I can't help but wonder if I would've felt differently about it if I experienced it all first-hand in the actual game, instead of giving in to spoilers, though.

Lmao at how a certain someone fought me tooth and nail about this being a direct retelling back when it was first announced. They were in such deep denial. Now look at them, on the Virge of suicide.

Excuse my butting in, but you guys aren't alone. I think T-rex you said it best with "grim determination". Sums it up all nicely.

I don't think things would be any different if you had waited and found out about all of this in April. Then again, people are different. For me I can say it probably wouldn't have been any different if I had waited.

In the begining I thought that making MK9 a remake (obvious disguise for a reboot shtick so popular today) was the worst idea for the storyline ever. At least for the original storyline. There were hundred of ways to continue the story after the MKA, but they seemingly decided that it was a deadend, both from the storyline perspective and commercial. I never believed, even just for the second, that they will stick to the oroginal storyline. MKSM and MKvs DC were proove of that, they always wanted to muck some things in the past, bit at least those two game were non-canon.

For me the worst thing that they could do - is to fuck up original storyline with unneccesary little retcons here and there, not unlike they've done in the MKvsDC, blurring the line between original timeline and new one.
The only option that could save MK9 plot for me, was abandoning of the orginal storyline alltogether and changing as much as possible. That way I could look at this story as not mediocre retelling, but as a complete rewriting of the bases of the MK story, that have nothing to do with the old MK'verse.

And I must say they've did it!! They have damn did it!! The've got enough courage, most likely being aware that not everyone will be plased with the new direction.
It was awesome. I hope I'll have as much pleasure from witnessing this story, as I had reading it. I never lived with the obviously false illusions that NRS will stick to the previously established canon, or miracolously will return narrative to the post-MKA timeframe. This game was veinly disguised reboot and it was obvious they will continue the series from here, whtever it would be.

As a whole I am really satisfied with the new canon. This story feels like a setup for far more greater events to come. MK4 reboot / rewriting seemingly is ahead and if they'll keep bold direction that've chosen with this game that would be great.

All in all one thing to recommend for people who hate new story - do not compare it to the old storyline and take off you nostalgia goggles. It's a totally new beast, it has nothing to do with previous chapters of the MK series since it's a reboot, not a remake. It's a completely new story, loosely based on the MK1-MK3. Not unlike what MK movie was for the games. It was loosely based adaption of the game storyline. Here's we have the same thing.
If anything I'll try to judge this story not like remake, but like a standalone story. And that's exactly what I recommend to some people.

The truth is, I've long envied XD's ability to just one day get up and walk away, and only briefly show up like once every couple months.

I really don't get along with or enjoy talking to almost anyone here, but I've always found it too hard to tear myself away from posting on the boards 'cause I've never found any place to talk about the MK storyline that I liked better. It's been a massive source of aggravation for a long time now. If not caring about the game anymore means I can now get myself to stop coming here so much, I'll be a much happier guy.

Wow. my. mind. is. penetrated. inappropriately. What ever happened to playing a fighting game for the, ummm... oh yeah, THE FUCKING FIGHTING! Who cares who becomes a fucking robot or not, this game is sooooo smooooooth, I just downloaded the demo. The graphics are soooo crisp and beautiful. The fighting is perfect, Perfect! What else do you think would happen when WB got their hands on this story? Enjoy the fighting guys, I guess is what I would like to recommend to you.

I think what they try to convey is that it is not a real problem. It never was.

Xiao, I noticed how your sporadic communications are only about how much you don't like MK anymore. Let it please go, the last few games do not in any way invalidate the qualities of the previous ones.

I am not even fazed by what was leaked, I stopped focusing on the WHAT, and instead I am interested in the HOW. NRS decided they had it with catering to the pre-established directions and taboos of the franchise. Big whoop.

Adapt or leave it. Simple binary choice. The latter one not prohibiting from enjoying the old. In any way.
