To be honest I expected this.

Doesn't effect me in the slightest though... I'll be importing a copy plus I have a US account on my PS3.

My real concern is MK getting zero sales in Australia.

I'm importing from Amazon. Have you imported a banned game before? 'Cos I keep getting conflicting reports on whether or not it's legal.

Some say it's okay, some say that if it's caught I get a written warning and all my international mail is checked for three years (and fines etc for later instances)
>_<

Will the mail carriers have to declare "this is a copy of mortal kombat" and are customs likely to be on the lookout for such things?

Should I get a foreign friend to buy it for me and then post it to me anonymously? >_<

I imported Munhunt for the original Xbox when It too, was refused classification in Australia. And I got it without any hassle. I am pretty sure you wouldn't be breaking any laws and even if you are, customs have other stuff to worry about.

If you are that worried you could contact amazon and see if they would put another games cover art over the top of MK's. Worth a shot :D haha.

Hell, I've imported a butterfly knife from the US before, I wouldn't worry about MK.

Awesome, glad I'm getting a PS3 glasses

Fact of the matter is, though, that it shouldn't be banned. I shouldn't have to drive down to JB HI-FI to get my ten dollar deposit back, then go home and purchase it from USA.

But I will.

My understanding is that its not illegal to own in Australia, its just illegal for all shops to sell it. I woudlnt worry about it. The government isnt going to be scanning packages and showing up to your house to arrest you cause you bought a banned game lol

Okay this is for all you Aussie PS3 Players, because it seems no one else knows.
You MUST buy it from the UK if you want DLC, but the thing is, will DLC even be released on the AU PSN Store?

If not, import it from the US, but then you'll have to create a US account and buy US PSN Cards.

To my understanding there is no such thing as the AUS PS Store. The UK and AUS are one in the same.

I contacted a game store from the uk and they said that the best place to order it from is a seller on ebay, a pal version of course. So in regards to owning it that will be easy

What's a good UK online store to buy from? I'm not going to ebay. Had extremely bad experiences with them.

For 360 owners that are worried about the game's dlc and importing.

I looked it up and it's quite easy to set up a U.S/U.K account. You can put Microsoft points on this new account online (there are varies websites), and download any DLC available. You will then be able to play that DLC on your Aussie account, provided it is on the same xbox that you downloaded it from.

As for online play, my friend has heaps on online games, both pal and NTRC (on a non-modified 360) and he has never had trouble playing online.

What I plan to do is wait and see if Mortal Kombat does in fact get released in Australia on the reappeal. WB has been successful in appealing for F.E.A.R 2 and Alien Vs Predator, so it is still possible Australia to get a uncut MA15+ release. That being said however, MK does seem uniquely violent compared to other in the market. You can compare it games like bullet storm and Duke Nukem, but there is no denying that this MK is brutal.

If I don't hear anything by end of March however, I'm look into importing online. I did have the tournament edition pre-ordered and I guess I'm not going to be getting it now... I can live with it however. As cool as the preorder bonuses are, in the end it will be a joystick I won't even use, or an artbook I'll probably only look at a few times. Both things can be overlooked now in retrospect in actually getting the game.

The biggest problem of this whole censorship thing is Australia is not going to have a growing MK community. I know I am going to work the system to get this game, but most of my friends won't bother.. I was looking forward to working on my skills to play against the people I know, but they are now going to miss out. I really do hate the censorship of my country, but I do see things changing in a few years time.

Maybe they will release a censored version, with dust instead of blood, as they did with MK1 on the SNES.

Johnny Cage can have his classic kick in stomach fatality, and Kano can have his invisible heart rip.
Bureaucratic bastards.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who's considered the possibility of a censored version of the game that uses the shadows gimmick to appease Australian censors. Afterall, it's primarily the fatalities that are the problem.

It'd be a pretty awful compromise, especially after MKvsDC managed more than even that. It might be the obvious solution if fatalities performed with 'realistic graphics' is the problem, and the classification board are too stubborn to review it.

I agree with you.

To put the Australian government to shame they should ask them questions like how many cybernetic ninjas do you see walking around firing misiles and energy nets out of their chests? How many four armed people do you see walking around? When was the last time you saw a bald headed man rip off someone's leg and beat them to death with it?

Simple answer is never because it ain't real. What else makes me laugh is have you ever seen some of the exploitation films that have come out of Australia and some of the more recent really screwed up films. They've got no problem funding movies but a game they ban, when the movies look more realistic. Whoever's in government over there needs a slap.

Do you realize that if this is the case, then we will probably never ever see

Street Fighter VS Mortal Kombat. No MK fan will want to see a game without

fatalities again and Capcom will never want to be associated with bans and such,

especially given the popularity of Street Fighter in this part of the world. The bigger

problem is going to be MK dying down under. MK VS DC was received poorly

and the next MK will be at least 3 years away...I hope people will still be

interested by then.

The game is obviously based in a fantasy world, along with the amount of magical and mystical elements should have saved it.

The problem i guess is the "realistic graphics" and the stupid way they classify things. eg. 1 nipple is ok for MA, but 2 is classed as XXX (exaggeration, but you get the idea).

Ninja Gaiden had to be revised so you can't decapitate enemies, as that is apparently a great big no-no.

I just followed a link to short from God of War 3 where kratos rips off someones head. It looked worse than anything i've seen in any MK game to date, including the videos of MK9.

Yet somehow that made it into Aus, as far as i'm aware.

Ed Boon has just tweeted (Jokingly i hope!!!) that they will have to make an E-rated (all ages 6+) version for thier friends down under!! I say to the NRS team PLEASE DON'T!!!

Don't ruin something that is seemingly so perfect. Fans have waited for so long to get what you guys have promised!! And we all know how to gain access to a copy of the game if we really wanted it (which we do!!).

Do not change the game to fit an MA15+ rating... it's not worth it.... let us use this to change our government to allow R18+ games. As far as i'm concerned our money is better spent overseas anyway!!

Considering the last 2 games that got RC by warner bros (AVP & Fear 2) both were successfully appealed and passed through uncensored
