The only all newly introduced character in the latest Mortal Kombat is Skarlet who started out as a DLC and is now part of both the release of the Komplete Edition and the Vita version of the game.

If there was something you could change about her, what would it be?
Other special moves or a whole new powerset? Something about her appearance you wish to change or maybe a whole new outfit? What about her storyline and background, is there anything about that you wish was different?

Share your thoughts.

I would like to have Skarlet a little easier to play as. That would likely further increase her popularity. Hmmmm.........maybe also give her Blood Drop a few more frames of startup, in exchange for being safer on block. Blood Bank does low damage for an X-Ray attack, so have that do more damage.

I think that's it from me.

I really really like Skarlet, her moves are pretty decent especially against Noob Saibot and Smoke spammers online. Her biography is a bit bland at the moment, but hopefully it gets better. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of her costume, but I cant picture her in anything else. For me I usually like to tailor costumes to the characters personality and Skarlet has none except for a blood fetish.

Although I would like to see her with her hair down like it showed in her Vignette and without a mask on, but it might be a little to Kira look- alike.

Overall, Skarlet has really become one of my favorite characters to play as. She is fun and fast and a great addition to the cast.

The only thing I believe I'd change about Skarlet in this game is probably her annoying voice. Other than that, I love this character. I think her moves/powers are unique and give her some great tools in competition. I've always liked the faster more agile characters and Skarlet does not disappoint in those categories.

I'll admit that it does take a bit of work to get an idea of how to flow with her fighting style... but once you get that down, she's a force to be reckoned with.

There is the fact that her background in MK9 is kind of shallow... however it was only her first game out. She's got a ton of potential. They could literally go anywhere with this character. With that in mind, I can forgive the lack of a deeper story (even though the current one isn't bad.. just not as filled out as it should be.) They can take care of it for her next appearance.

Well that is, if she gets a "next appearance". It would be a real shame if she doesn't because she's a really great character who deserves the chance to reach her potential.

I'm also a huge Skarlet fan. And not just because she's another sexy female ninja in a revealing costume. It's just little things I've noticed about her that I like.

I for one, quite like the voice. It's distinct, and it's not like she's trying to sound sultry or provocative, she sounds demented! The fact she has no dialogue is a huge bonus for me as well because I think it makes more of a sinister appeal to her, I mean she's a huntress who's freed by Shao Kahn only in extreme conditions so obviously she's intended to be somewhat fearsome. Even if she had limited vocabulary like Fujin from Final Fantasy 8 where she just speaks singular words, that would be so cool. Could you imagine her teleporting up in a blood puddle to her newfound victim and whispering something along the lines of "pray...", or "found you...."? I think she's got plenty of potential in that regard if they play on the fact she's not vocal.

And speaking of potential, the woman's made of various bodies amalgamated into one through sorcery. How cool is that? Her powers could easily be further explored. If Ermac becomes empowered near Soul Stones, what would empower her? I actually thought to myself the other day that now that Shao Kahn's been killed, she's without a master, and the most bloodthirsty dog in the pound is off the leash. What are the consequences of Shao Kahn's death with her? Will her mentality degrade without a master? What was her mindframe even like to begin with?

Perhaps now that Kahn's dead the sorcery which made Skarlet exist will start to fade, and similar to Sareena, Skarlet loses her human form if she doesn't replenish herself with the blood of fallen warriors. Maybe they could have it that she becomes a total outlaw from the heroes and the villains, with her sole intention being just to slay the strongest of warriors and drain their blood to prolong her lifespan? Perhaps her physical form could change if she fails to do so into becoming something more monstrous?
*Imagines Skarlet become something similar to a G-Virus Mutation from Resident Evil 2 or a Lisa Trevor type, with those big bloody tendrils from her fatality growing from her body*

The only thing I would like is that alternate costume that was leaked for her, I wouldnt even be interested in her MK2 or MK3 look so long as I got that Alternate solely because I love the Arabian feel to it with the head scarf. I'd also just make her X-Ray slightly stronger because it is quite weak in comparisson.

Other than that though, I love Skarlet!

I wouldn't change a thing. I think she is great as is. Skarlet has become my favorite female ninja.

The only thing I would want to see is a rivalry between Skarlet and Nitara. A vampire and a warrior comprised of blood, it writes itself really.

Those are some great ideas, NoobSaibot5.

That's really the best thing about her, the fact that she's still very unwritten and can go anywhere from here because of Kahn's demise.

I really like the idea of her not really caring about good or evil.. just merely looking for the strongest warriors to kill and drain dry. It keeps her as a wild card type character.. because you never know how she'll affect whatever plot she finds herself in.. because unlike the others, she's not got some complicated agenda. She's merely killing to survive. I like it a lot.

I have to agree about her moves fit her PERFECTLY, even her fatalities fit her well, especially the one with the veins, wow pretty well thought-up NRS. Both costumes look SUPERB, and even her classic ones go great on her!!!

I think her and Ermac turned out to be 2 of the best MK fighters, yet nobody touches Kitana/Kung Lao/Sindel, including Scorpion/Sub Zero, LOL!

I just hope they give Skarlet and Tremor a chance in the next game, yet they should do Tremor like they did Skarlet and update him very well-fit.

I just want this available for the original Mortal Kombat as a DLC. That Vita has all that other stuff seems a bit unfair to me, but it isn't enough for me to buy it.

A few things...

1. I wouldn't have made her Shao Kahn's creation. Sure, someone can create her through the use of blood but... Someone else, for christ's sake... BUT NOT QUAN CHI.

2. I would've preferred Skarlet to have a more unique background, not MK's repetitive brand of vaguely Asian pseudo-ninjas.

3. Her costume is dreadful... This is not an argument you could win against me either, because I don't believe this is an opinion. It is that objectively bad. The boots are great, the top half is nice (though the shoulderpads are a bit awkward on her, considering how little clothing she is wearing)... It's that awful loin cloth that bothers me. I think she'd look much better if those black stripes at the top of her boots covered the rest of her legs and her stomach with some accents that break up the monotony of stripes. There's also something somewhat unremarkable about her look... It's not enough design-wise to really make her first appearance memorable. She might as well have been made with that hero machine thingy.

Other than that, I quite like her fighting style and blood theme.

She played beautifully, had an interesting story, and I felt that she was really new to the series. There's only one thing I didn't like about her...

Her voice. Just make it a bit lower and we're fine. And that mask, it just doesn't make sense.

Costume. It is awful.
And maybe make her special moves easier a bit.

otherwise she could turn into interesting character. But as of now I more or less indifferent towards her.

The costume is fine. She's one of Kahn's creations and therefore she's dressed like one.

However, this is the one character where the recycled female body type really became problematic. The costume would have worked better if the body itself was more distinguished, and since all females have this Natalie-Portman-With-Implants body, the whole design came off very blah. The idea of a hot stripper costume only works if the stripper has a uniquely beautiful body,, and giving Skarlet a cookie cutter 3D model made the concept come off flat.

Other than that, I like it. It could use more details on some of the armor pieces, but that's about it.
EDIT: And if all of Skarlet's gameplay gets put into a plastic funnel and poured in Sareena for MK10, I'm gonna be fucking pissed. Midway Team/NRS always says "We wanna make new characters," and then after that, they NEVER FUCKING USE THEM!!! We got Skarlet now, and she has a fully working gameplay design. PUT HER IN MK10!

Well of course her costume would look better on a better model, hehehe... These tiny heads, gargantuan shoulders, pencil waists, nonexistent hips, erect ass cheeks, monster boobs, weirdly thick arms for such skinny women, etc... Are probably the biggest problem for most of the costumes (notably, Jade's primary is flawless except for the horrid fitting on her wonky proportions)... But Skarlet has the dubious honor of not being able to blame it on entirely on her figure.

There's so much potential for her fatalities too. I can almost imagine her becoming a living Iron Maiden if she cut herself and used those big tendrils to erupt from her body.

Opinions have certainly gotten warmer towards her though. I remember when she was first announced and people were convinced she'd be quite bland, when her gameplay and motif are in my opinion one of the best in the game. I don't mind her primary costume considering she's scantily clad to allow blood to seep into her skin, but the design team could think of something distinct and memorable that takes this into consideration that's not so "thong, bra, boots, swords, check!".

So that wasn't just me then. The female asses in MK look really awkward.

The other flaws didn't bother me too much, but I wish they were spread out instead of universally placed in the female body template. I feel big shoulders kinda fit Kitana, as did the unnaturally thin waist on Mileena. I even think that philosophy should have been applied in the positive direction: give ONE character the big tits; give ONE character the great ass *cough* Sindel *cough*; give ONE character the slender petite body.

Though I'm told that I complain in vain because apparently NRS reused body models because of hitbox/body damage issues. I'd give up the entire X-Ray aesthetic if it meant more body diversity (though not the mechanic; this game needs a super move... and that super move needs tweaks as is).

The costume was the biggest fail since Hsu Hao's Mr. Slave design. 9 games in, and this is the most creative costume you can make? A loin cloth? Its so unfitting for a character like her.

Give her that costume that's on disc but still isn't finished, but was on the Vita.

And add a second "t" in her name.

Everything else is perfect.

Well at least Skarlet's costume is better than Kitana's Alt outfit. Now THAT was just lazy design.

I dunno if her costume is *bad* per say. They were onto something, you can tell they have her dressed the way she is because of her powers. In that sense, it's fitting. The only thing that I feel went wrong with a lot of the girls costumes in this game was that it went so far into fantasy that it wasn't even remotely believable for the character.

For Skarlet, showing skin is important, in fact it's almost essential because bloodloss from her opponent empowers her. I quite like the mask, the shoulders and the upper body aspect of her costume but I wasn't too crazy about the waist and lower. Too many things didn't match up, like her random crotch flap, or how her boots didnt seem to match with her armguards. Simple little things could have been done to really spice it up a bit.

Now by no means is this meant to be a finished piece, or judged as one, but this was a concept drawing I done for Skarlet ages ago. It was just a quick sketch experimenting with designs for her. I thought the ropes hanging from her bra could wrap around her back to support her sword scabbards, and give support to the leather straps that hold her Kunai as well as holding the cloth up as a singular rear cloth rather than a rear+front one. The little clasps on her thong line actually have the insignia on her cloth just so it ties the outfit in together that bit better. (again though, it's not a finished drawing, just a sketch)

My point is, little thing could be done to really improve how Skarlet looks, because at the moment she's about as classy as Mileena in terms of costume, yet nowhere near as distinctive. I sorely believe the Arts lead for MK9 take a hiatus for MK10 and allow Herman Sanchez or Luis Mangubat to come back into the limelight because their costumes in MK:DA and MK:D were among some of the best in the series.
The shoulders pads and the top piece... maybe design it close to the mk2 outfit

Love her the way she is for the most part, but yeah, I'd alter a few things.

-Ditch the blood slide. I feel like I've seen three or four people rocking that move through MK's history at this point.

-Better main costume. I didn't dislike what she came with, but it needed a few touches.

-Reduced self-damage on the blood ball. Didn't feel like it was anywhere near worth using.

-Really do wish she had been specifically serving Shinnok. Was utterly convinced she would be in the months leading up to release. Instead she's number I don't know what in a list of Kahn's Ultimate Hidden Warriors zomg. Back when MK4 came out, I remember being pleased to see new faces serving a new overlord; nowadays both Tanya and Reiko serve under or have served under Kahn. Be nice to get a few more Brotherhood members.

In regards to her costume, Did anyone else besides me picture her as a blonde?

I always thought she was a blonde, or that she was rumoured to be blonde? Am I wrong there?

Also in regards to her attire I pictured her as a blonde elektra with a red mask and minus the bandana.

In fact that was the perfect picture of what Skarlett should look like. So, you can only imagine what I thought when I saw her in MK9. My initial reaction was WTF?lol

Still she's a good character and I feel she can be built off of. I say that she should be on the main roster in the next game.

Bezou (I think that was his name) wanted a blonde Skarlet, but I have never heard any official info about her ever being rumoured to be blonde.

See, before MK9 release when Boon released the infamous leg photo and everyone began to talk about how it could be Skarlet, I thought that most people were saying that she was a blonde. I could be wrong though.

That's why I was picturing a blonde character, or maybe even a light colored redhead. When she was revealed as a deep redhead I just kept thinking what the hell?

I also feel that blonde would have fit better. I wonder if they just want Sonya as the only blonde in the series because we have now seen plenty of black hair, and two redhead girls. The only blonde we have seen is Sonya though.
