I loved that look, especially the mask with the silver fin on the top of his hood.

One thing I always thought would look cool was if little billows of smoke seeped out of his skin, almost as if his exposed skin to the air caused it to smoke up from his pores like his skin excreted it.

Would love the same voice actor from Shaolin Monks too. I loved doing those Smoke Missions just to hear him talk, his voice was very, very sexy! ;)

I think he looks awsome its different a new direction with smoke. The long hair makes him unique to the other ninjas i know some people dont like the hair but then they would fuss for them all supposely being pallet swaps which is stupid also i think there is smoke radiating off of his grey hair cool.Also they can do it because we never seen human smoke from mk3 he was a robot in the new games with the new systems and concepts.The only other ninja that shows his hair du was rain with the pony tail in deception everybody like it look how popular he is now.

if the pic doesnt show i apoligize(sp). this is my 1st time ive tried to link a pic. neway, i made this awhile back and since every1 else is posting pics of how they want smoke to look i figured i would too. now, its not the best in the world but, meh. i made this back whin i first started posting in another thread. its basicly Smoke in his umk3 attire with a bit of mk2 and modern flavor. this is just wat i prefer, better than that raiden/alucard/nuada/fabio lookin thing imo.(assuming thats him*fingers crossed that its not*)

ps. i only take part credit. the tools were provided via an online character creator...i just used em.

it seems people want reptile, smoke, ermac, etc., to continue the palette swap tradition. any effort at creating individual looks for the former palette ninjas is met with resistance. the majority of people are only satisfied with reptile if he has the boring ninja suit with green highlights and some minor lizard traits. zzzzz. the same goes with smoke, going by the pics people post of how they think he should look. most of you just posted the boring palette ninja suit with gray highlights and some minor changes. zzzzzzzz. boring. smoke possibly having a totally fresh new look has me excited. i know sub-zero and scorpion are stuck in the same boring ninja look game after game as they are the mascots, but i will always applaud efforts to change former palette ninjas. besides, they usually throw in a retro, or classic, ninja costume for the palette ninja bunch anyways, such as reptile in mk4; his main was different, his alt was pretty much classic ninja garb. the best sub-zero looked was in mkda and his bald head alt in mkd. why? because they were different, same with scorpion's alt in mkda. i have my fingers crossed the guy in black with white hair is smoke as i like the idea, and i have little doubt is alt will be the classic ninja outfit. but all this could be a waste of our time as that person on the pc screen may not be smoke...

to each his own i suppose. but my point is that nrs/midway hav been trying to re-invent human smoke for awhile now yet the majority of the fans see these attempts as failures. at this point ud think nrs has seen what the majority of the fans want is a true return of h smoke, meaning an authentic ninja representation similar to the days of old but modernized in a practical way. i.e. no bright ass white hair that even a blind man could c in the dark. (kudos to those that get that.) basicly, if it aint broke, dont fix it. meaning that if any1 should retain the "pallet swap" ninja garb than it should b smoke, given his occupation as an elite assassin itd fit him more to resemble what he is, and thats a ninja. but hey, thats just like, my opinion man.

there is a thread about this at TRMK where one person claims to have insider info that this is in fact Smoke, whereas another person claims to have insider info that Smoke has spiked black hair. they both seem pretty confident in their info, but the one who says this is Smoke claims they actually saw the character select screen whereas the other says they were only told about Smoke's look having spikey black hair and admits it could have possibly been changed.

In my personal opinion, if this IS Smoke: I. Think. He. Looks. AWESOME!!! I really like the long hair, it gives him more originality from the other ninja-like characters. Noob has a loose hood, Scorp has an armored hood, Subz has a very tight fitting hood, Ermac bandages wrapped around his face, and Smoke has no hood at all. I like this idea and I really hope this is him.

Whatever they want Smoke to look like, he's still a Lin Kuei warrior. And that outfit looks nothing like Lin Kuei.

If it is Smoke, though, then Smoke had just sunk down to one of my least favorite MK characters. Unless it's a god, young dudes with grey hair is just way too 'anime'.
Maybe that's Raiden's alternate outfit made to look like "Raiden" from MGS. Hahah.

I like the MK: SM design best, and I think it is human smoke he has a mask and clearly a ninja costume who else would have a grey ninja costume? And it looks so close to his umk3 design. We all know how powerful he was in umk3 not to mention his popularity when you'd play umk3 on 360 people would pick him all the time. I saw a video where Ed Boon referenced the competitiveness they saw in the x box 360 umk3 stuff so they know what the people want and with this game a lot of rumors and things have been coming back and coming true. I just hope he's in and I cant wait to see how they differentiate him from scorpion, scorpion has all his moves (pop ups, air throw, teleport, spear)

In all honesty, I think Smoke should look similar to Sub-Zero. Not Exactly the same, but both have their head covered for starters. I would imagine Lin Kuei having a uniform... Unless they are wearing different uniforms to signify some sort of "rank" system. Maybe showing your hair in the Lin Kuei shows some form of mastery... idk. I just hope I warm up to it if this is smoke... I mean, I love the UMK3 ninja look, but I also liked it as a *complete* look; including the hood.

But at least I'll still have an alternate costume that may be more "traditional" Lin Kuei Garb.

Yeah, but he will have an alt... and what else could it be? Can't be Cyber-Smoke because he's on the list for DLC, so it's probably a variation of the palette swap ninja you all seem to love...

This is likely to be Smoke I'm afraid. Sub-Zero had a similar alt costume in Mortal Kombat: Deception with long white hair. I wonder did NRS ever realize that the Sub-Zero costume didn't become a fan favorite thus being rather lackluster in design? It is possible that this will become an alt costume like with Sub-Zero in Deception. @RedVirtue: Whilst the classic ninja costume may not be there at launch, there is still the option of DLC for Smoke, Noob Saibot and the likes.

May I just point out that no, you dont need to have every character look the same. And that no, not everyone wants the ninja's to all look the same, if anything I've seen more praise for the likes of Ermac and Noob's outfits than I have seen complaints. I completely agree with each warrior looking different and somewhat unique in comparisson to the old days when everybody looked the same.

Did I like Reptile's re-design for Deadly Alliance? Yes! Loved it, even more so than his Shaolin Monks outfit because the look made sense for him at that time in the storyline. Even his current look now is cool in my eyes, because it's got a very primitive feel to it whilst still maintaining that stealthy ninja appeal.

Did I like Ermac's re-design for Deception? Loved it! They made him look like a ninja but with more of an Arabic/Mystic feel to it as oppossed to the Power Ranger uniforms we got in UMK3, and his look totally complimented his powers. His outfits in this game are also fantastic because they follow that same pattern and manage to keep him as a ninja but with a wildly different design in comparisson to the other Ninjas.

Do I like Noob's re-design for this game? Sure do! He looks grim, intimidating and very befitting of his shady character. He's like the ninja version of the Grim Reaper, which is a look I think compliments his origins from the Nether Realm.

Line Reptile, Ermac, Noob and Sub-Zero up next to each other using their renders from this game and you'll see that each and every one of them look different and unique. They all maintain the similar motif of being masked warriors, but each have their own costume theme going on for them. Smoke deserves the same treatment, but as I mentioned earlier, considering he's in the Lin Kuei at this point of time the long flowing hair from that image would not suit him. Rain had long hair in Armageddon, which I loved, but it suited Rain. His outfit was re-designed to be more of a Persian Thief as opposed to a ninja, so the long hair actually suited his new look as an outlaw of royal lineage.

Smoke on the other hand is the Lin Kuei's top assassin. He's renowned for being stealthy, fast, undetectable and lethal, and to reach that status he'd most likely need to be as discreet and stealthy as possible. Long, flowing white hair is not discreet nor is it stealthy. It's actually incredibly noticeable, which not only contradicts what he's become established as but also contradicts the theme of his character. The perfect look for him would be one that actually makes him look like he's a stealthy ninja, it would reflect his character in a similar way to how Ermac's latest designs reflect on what's established of Ermac.

I honestly doubt that the Lin Kuei, which is strict enough to actually force automation on it's members, would be so relaxed to allow one of their most valued stealthy assassin's to flaunt something so obvious and identifiable during his latest covert mission in Outworld. Hell I'm sure if they can force their members to become Cyborgs they can at least enforce a basic uniform for their clan to wear. I can't see how NRS would have a hard time making Smoke look original yet true to the ninja motif considering they've done such a good job already on other former palette swaps.

That look in the photo reminds me more of Raiden's Deception alt than anything else, so until Smoke's revealed I'm going to believe that it's Raiden's black alt that Lupinko mentioned because quite frankly that outfit suits Raiden better than Smoke.

It could be Smoke's alternate costume. There is that little bit of hope.

Still doesn't fit the character, but at least if it was his alt, you wouldn't have to look at it and the "it's out of character for the Lin Kuei" thing wouldn't be an issue because alts aren't always necessarily canon, they're just experimental and optional sometimes.

Personally, it doesn't even really bother me that it's white, or that it's long...what bothers me is he's wearing it straight down all loose and flowing like, well...like I said, he looks like a rich, fancy vampire-type. It just doesn't fit the dude's background to be rocking the Alucard/Malfoy/Sephiroth. If it was just styled differently, it'd be fine. Preferably some sort of ponytail or topknot.

For covert missions he ties it up in a bun, or he's really REALLY good at being stealthy, or he uses smoke cover a lot. Honestly this is MK, any sense of logic was thrown out the window a long time ago.



NRS preying on the European stereotype and making Smoke's look Victorian-esque and FABULOUS. If that's the case he needs a cape, cufflings, and a French silk scarf.

Whoever this character is, I can't wait to try 'em out. If it is Smoke, I'm excited.

The more I look at this picture, the more I TRULY hope this is Smoke. I have been a fan of his since I played with him on SNES and Genesis (though back then he was only a palette swap lol) I really like the direction NRS is taking his new look (If this is him, and everything about the picture says it is).

I hear so many people saying the artist should be fired...REALLY? Because YOU all don't like it? What about those of us who ARE Smoke fans that like this new look? .....sigh...what a shame...
