Holy shit, story mode looks incredible. Scorpion does not give one fuck lol one moment they're talking like regular people and the next they're fucking dead. Good shit, no more covering up deaths like in MK9 where Shao Kahn kills that shaolin monk off screen or the helicopter death from Shang. We're seeing this full on.
The only thing I didn't like is when Johnny tackles Scorpion from the helicopter, that annoyed me. Why the fuck didn't he use a forceball to knock him off? Just seemed so unnecessary to risk your life by jumping out of a fucking helicopter. Besides, what if Scorpion teleported right as he went to tackle him?
Anyways I loved the Sub appearance and I laughed when Johnny knocks the head off hahaha. The fight scenes look a lot better and the transitions from the fights to cutscenes are a LOT better. One of the things that bugged me as well is the blood on Johnny in one scene but it disappears in the next. Hopefully they fix that in the final game.
Overall the stream was boring as fuck without the story/gameplay and I really wanted to see the full chapter but i'm pleased with what we got. Can't wait for this.
Oh, and story mode unlockables! Fujin maybe?

Sonya is nobody's sidekick. Even here and now, Johnny acknowledges that she is in charge of this mission and he and Kenshi are just teaming up. Plus, I didn't see Johnny land any helicopters in an emergency. He's getting into fights, but she's (literally) in the driver's seat.
In the Shinnok fight, we see him kick both of their asses handily. The rest is circumstance.
The game seems to be treating Sonya fairly well so far. I am raising an eyebrow, though, at how the comics are portraying her as being overly hotheaded, irrational, and a little bitchy. It could just be that a hardass soldier type like her makes a poor diplomat. At the same time though, we see Johnny being super cool and collected while putting a leash on Sonya's PMS stereotypes, which kinda diminishes her character a bit.

6 minutes of MKX's Story Mode alone was better than MK9's story.
God dammit hurry up April..
Shinnok and Liu Kang will probably be story unlockables

Certainly not in character, nor as a character. Far be it from me to imply such things (I might get garroted before I can even finish voicing such implications).
Her being sidelined just boils down to the gameplay mechanic of Story Mode; if you're playing Johnny during the Netherrealm War, then he has to shine more than whomever he is with, regardless of that character's strengths and relevance. They do right away establish that she is the leader, she's in charge, but the breakdowns I've read of Chapter 1 in full do mention Johnny having to aid her during the Jax fight (because HE has to fight him, naturally), and her getting knocked out of the fray in the final battle (again, because HE has to fight).
Again, understandable; yet I do wish they'd chosen to sideline her simply by keeping her battles off-screen, with Johnny taking on the more prevalent threat.
BUT, having said all that, a self-administered caveat: I haven't seen it all for myself, just read breakdowns, so make a final judgment based on your own experience

On the flip side, Johnny's readiness to high-five and grab a beer with Outworlders diminishes his character, in my eyes. His humor dismisses his and Sonya's very unpleasant experiences with this realm, especially in the stressful situation of their daughter's kidnapping. I have to say, I respect Sonya's hostile approach; it just seems exaggerated when you look at it from "outside the box", and especially when you rival it against Johnny's flippancy.

I loved most of the chapter 1 video, but that shit drove me nuts. I too hope that they keep the blood and bruises on them during cutscenes. At least for a little while.

Remember that you're talking about Johnny Cage, who has never been known for his intelligence.

Good points. I would say though, that Sonya's approach of literally shooting first and asking questions later is going over the line just a little bit. She initiates and escalates tensions. Back at the Special Forces HQ, she could have been skeptical of Kotal's intentions without the hostility that riled up D'vorah and turned a simple questioning into an armed standoff.
Johnny, meanwhile, is enough of a "people person" to know how to simmer things down, which to me is a point in his favor. He's not chumming around with the Outworlders, he's simply questioning them respectfully and without antagonizing them. He recognizes that "profiling" Outworlders as being universally evil just because of Shao Kahn isn't quite fair.
He is being a jackass for always trying to score status points against Sonya, though.
My thoughts on what we've seen copy/pasted from other thread

100% agreed.
The dialogue felt natural, fresh, and the way the characters interacted with one another was really great.
Though I didn't mind MK9's Story Mode, MKX just blows it out of the water. Fitting that a next-gen game got a next-gen makeover in the Story department.

I could be wrong, but I think this scene from the game takes place before Cassie is even born. It looks like Sonya and Cage mutually have the hots for each other in the choppa which is at the very beginning of the game. That leads me to believe this scene takes place not long after the end of MK9 and in the beginning of their relationship.
