Anyone else think Marvel characters fit better?

This thread really doesn't have a particular point to argue, but rather just observational. I like both Marvel and DC (and Mortal Kombat), but looking at the roster of MK characters, many of them have direct Marvel counterparts.

Here's a list of comparisons:
Sub-Zero = Ice Man - Yes, the obvious ice powers sort of give it away
Scorpion = Ghost Rider - flaming skulls and badditude galore
Kenshi = Daredevil - proof that blind guys kick ass
Raiden = Storm - she was once called a goddess and controls lightning...
Raiden = Thor - both are gods of thunder. Simple enough.
Kitana = Elektra - both were assassins with dead daddies
Mileena = Elektra - both use sais as their primary weapons
Sonya = Black Widow - both are special force government agents
Baraka = Wolverine - "sninkt!" pop those claws
Johnny Cage = Iron Fist - both are gimmicky characters that prove badass
Jax = Luke Cage - just see Jax's alt then look at Powerman... they're brothers!
Hotaru = Magneto - both have noble goals but flawed executions
Shang Tsung = Mystique - shape shifters should get along just fine
Stryker = The Punisher - just look at Stryker's MKA ending for proof
Blaze = Human Torch - he was even going to be called Torch before Marvel stepped in
Reptile = Venom - it's all about the tongue, baby
Sektor = Ultron - Ultron is an evil robot making his own robot army. hmm...
Cyrax = Vision - Vision was an evil robot who became a force of good. hmm...
Shao Kahn = Dr. Doom - both are bad-ass leaders of their own countries with masks on
Goro = Hulk - big fellas you don't want to piss off
Kintara = Juggernaut - bigger fellas you don't want to piss off
Quan Chi = Mephisto - both are scheming, manipulative life-screwing bastards
Kai = Black Panther - both are african martial arts masters
Liu Kang = Captain America - both are considered the best martial artists of their respective worlds
Shinnok = Thanos - both are meglomaniacs with a bit of a death fetish
Nightwolf = Warpath - Native Americans who kick ass
Kabal = Deadpool - both are disfigured fighters in the moral gray area
Noob Saibot = Dusk - Dusk is a hero/heroine that is completely black and melds into shadows...
Sheeva = Spiral - both are multiarmed female fighters
Sindel = Siryn - both have supersonic screaming abilities
Sindel = Medusa - both use their hair as a weapon
Jade = Gambit - both use the staff as their primary subweapon

Am I missing any? Anyone agree? Disagree?

because spidermans life, nah, SOUL is on the line when fighting him. If iwas fighting Shang Tsung i wouldnt be thinking about jokes, i would be thinking "I hope i get to keep my fricken soul". id be terrified.

No I don't think so. If there HAS to be a MK vs Comics game... I think DC was the right universe to pick. For me (as in just my opinion) the DC character have always been just a bit better than Marvel charcters. Don't get me wrong, I'm a marvel fan as well... but DC just gets a few more points with me.


Also, I think that characters from the Batman series are a good fit for MK. Well, I mean, out of COMIC characters anyway. Black Canary and Deathstroke are two more characters that I think would do pretty well in an MK game. I'm hoping that Black Canary inparticular makes the cut.

I think it's just more obvious that they match up with Marvel....not better per se...

Oh, and Raiden vs Magneto: They pretty much stalemate each other in a fight. Magnetism > Electricity....except when you have to consider Raiden as a god character..

Thats hard to say. Both has Pros and Cons.

Marvel: Has blood, a lot of MK-esque characters in terms of powers. Many are experienced fighters.

DC: Is against blood and killing. No real experienced fighters. But, has more of an overall darkness to it, some characters are down-right sadistic; Joker, Batman, Two-Face.

I wouldn't mind seeing an MK vs. Batman....it makes up about half of the Darkness of DC.

I’ll put it like this, Spiderman being in a Mortal Kombat game would be the only reason I’d be pissed off there are no fatalities. :P

Come on, say an annoying smart ass comment to Emperor Shao Kahn, he won’t hurt you. :P

I would have preferred Marvel mainly because of the X-Men and all the powers at their disposal. Storm and Raiden together would be amazing. Ice-Man and Sub-Zero. Baraka and Wolverine. Shang Tsung and Mystique. Mileena and Elektra. The characters do seem to parallel each other alot better as Garlador has posted. Given those, it'd make for some interesting matchups and alliances.

Spidey faced his share of mystic beings. And after the likes of Carnage, a sorcerer with a goatee isn't gonna make him jump out of his tights.

Well, I have some preference for the X-Men characters (Storm would have been just WOW), I do have some hopes for Poison Ivy, from Batman. I think she would rock!

but did spiderman, after fighting the almighty Carnage, where he probably almost died, did he make a wise crack?

i'm not saying i can't see spiderman fighting him, i just cant imagine spidermans having his jokey personality after fighting shang, kahn or ongaga.

The thing is, Shang isn't enough of a threat for Spidey to get all serious. He can throw fireballs, big deal. And he can steal your soul, but for that he would need to defeat Spidey first, which I'm just not seeing happening. If a mortal like Liu Kang can beat him, Spidey is gonna have a field day with him.

And Shao Kahn & Onaga are just big bruisers, and he as made fun of those plenty in the past.

I don't get the notion that DC is lightyears ahead of Marvel, and the recurring statement that Marvel is for angst ridden teens.
Are you guys simply focusing on Spider-Man?

Anyways, that list was amazing and goes to show how functional a game MK vs Marvel would be.
There is darkness in the Marvel universe, they touch on serious themes as well.
Anyone been reading the current run of Moon Knight, that get has more problems then Batman.
And I must reiterate how much more visually interesting Marvel characters are.

Marvel definitely has the better fitting characters, but I'm kinda glad that we get some other characters for a change. We've already got many games including Marvel characters from Capcom, it's time for the DC characters to shine a bit.

Marvel feels more like MK than DC does.But we got DC so I'm okay with it though but if i had a choice i'd say...Mortal Kombat vs DC vs Marvel vs Tekken vs Virtua Fighter vs Super Smash Brothers...I'm kidding about that last one thats just dumb...Maybe MK vs DC vs Marvel vs...Star Wars(go Chewey) Oh yeah but i'd much rather have just plain o' MK8 ,baby

Oh, DC has got some great characters. But it's difficult to find some that aren't too overpowered against MK characters. And those that would fit, are probably not iconic enough among the fan base.

Some characters that would fit just great are Deathstroke, Nightwing, Azrael, Bane, Killer Croc, Hawkman/Hawkgirl, Black Canary, Wildcat, Batgirl (Cassandra Cain), Black Adam, Kalibak, Darkseid's Female Furies, etc.

lackluster? Dude lol nobody in Marvel can compete with Superman or Batman overall, arguably the two most iconic, fictional characters of all time.

In fact, Superman IS one of the most tied with Mickey Mouse(believe it or not) everyone knows show Superman is, but not everyone will know who Spider-Man, Jean Grey or even Wolverine while the whole world knows Superman....dudes been around since the 40's and still has an insanely huge fanbase...
