I recall reading somewhere that MIdway lost an assload ( and by assload I mean 100 million) of money on the mediocre crapfest that was Stranglehold, my question is this: If MK vs DCU bombs, do you think Midway will survive?

My other question is since Midway is the house that Mortal Kombat built, Why the hell hasn't that company taken better care of its top selling IP?

It has a very small chance of killing Midway.

But a very good chance of killing Mortal Kombat.

I guess our only hope is that in Mortal Kombat, death has never meant anything.

Stranglehold didn't meet the production costs. Factor in the fact that they hire John Woo to direct the game and it was a sad day for Midway.

I doubt that they lost 100 Million though.

I don't think, this game will kill off Midway. But it does seem that they are in for some rough times.

I think every recent MK game has made a profit and there is nothing to suggest that this game won't.

Stranglehold is a great and very impressive game ( I have it in my collection, bought it only 30 euros) but it is too short. It is true that they earn less money than they spent for this game. I don't think that MK vs DC will kill Midway. It will sell good because of its name "Mortal Kombat" but it will not sell as much as it would if it had an M rate, it wasn't a versus game , it had fatalities more blood and cannon interesting story. As said someone before maybe it kill MK franshise only (for some years) because Midway is releasing TNA impact that in my opinion will sell really well.

As for your last question I think that Midway is not clever and confident enough and wants to earn money by an easy and certain way. They took the certain money from DC company because of the loss they had with stranglehold, lowered the rating to T because they think that way, lower ages will buy the game (more sells) and after 2 years that these 16 years old will get close to MK and they will buy the next real MK, rated M because they will be 18.
But here is the mistake. If they had faith in MK team and MK team did their best as they did with MK2 they would have earned more money that they will earn now (because all ages would have bought the game as they did with previous MKs , I bought MK2 when I was 11 at Snes) and all would be happy. Us and them. But they didn't want to risk it. They didn't have faith in themselves. That is my personal opinion.

MKA was a flop actually... failed in sales and reviews.

I doubt this game will fail, but if it is, it's gonna be bad, bad, bad.

The way I see it "worst case".. midway does not do well in the future..it forces the company to sell its rights for mk and some other company picks it up.. I HIGHLY doubht mk will ever be gone

Go Capcom! Then we'd get a real crossover with a GOOD fighting engine.

If Capcom took it then I would never buy a game ....never other than Romance Of The Three Kingdoms .

I don't think it'll kill Midway, but MK would definitely take a shot in the stomach IF it flops. I think there'd be a possibility for failure to trickle down and effect the other games indirectly.

"peter to par paul"

Less investors for whatever other projects underneath the Midway umbrella, that sort of thing.

Hurray for limited thinking!

Anyways, I doubt it will kill Midway. At most it'll damage them to make a merge with another company other than being bought out. And even that is unlikely as hell.

This won't kill Midway or Mortal Kombat, I think this game will do pretty good. I know some people aren't looking forward to this game, but I know I am!

I'm sure that I read a news post on here saying that Armageddon sold over a million units.

But nether the less, To be honest this is the best situation, Midway has to hope for.

When a comic book/movie series gets a game featuring all the exclusive characters, the game never does as well as you'd might expect., however in a cross over game that makes no sense, it just works.

Not at all, the only way it would hurt is if this game doesn't sell...and I'll bet my pinky it will sell bigtime for several reasons, DC involved being one of them besides the first next gen MK.

But I do believe this game will be successful and help Midway if anything.

I'm sure the new TNA from what I've read about it will do pretty well to.smile

I just hope it won't be broken for the hardcore gamers of the series. Don't forget not only the story has to be good and whatnot but the how the game plays too. What good is the plot if all your characters do is the hokey pokey?

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm not worried about the story since Midway and DC are working together on that, the game although we don't know yet I'll bet will be way more playable then the previous 3 because of the no more multiple styles alonegrin

Good god, chill out with the caps...

It won't kill anything, it's a crossover game that will most likely not be canon with MK's exclusive storyline as Boon hinted.

Same with most crossovers....

As much as I hate it, the game might be successful.

#1. MK fans are going to be curious enough to buy it

#2. DC fans are going to be curious enough to buy it

and then we'll square off in the battlefield known as online gaming
