Who is afraid of lame pointless threads like this one taking over the boards!?!?!?!?
No one has anything remotely interesting to talk about anymore.
All your favorite characters aren't coming back. Deal with it.

I agree this thread has been done to death. but still, i will contribute.
I'd say im nervouse but not afraid as im confident my favourate will be back, it would be a waste of a good plot possibility.

Oh yeah that's right. I said it before like God is not here today said, None of your favorite characters are coming back. WTF can't you deal with it? Grow up, and stop being a baby.
In fact, 37 more days till I remind you with actual proof.
Heh. The saying goes: Better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

Don't forget Sheeva and Kenshi.
I'd seriously consider revising your topic title. It's far too vague.
That being said, here's my list:
1. Sareena- She's such a compelling character, and she only JUST got to be in ONE mainstream console game. It would be a crying shame to develop her, build her up, throw her in there, and then forget all about her.
2. Kitana - She's hardly my favorite character... but you know, she used to be one of my favorites, before boring storylines and wooden character development made her far less compelling than her original "princess without a kingdom" concept had her at. Still, something just felt WRONG with MK4 replacing her with Tanya and having her excluded from MK: Deception in favor of Jade.
3. Quan Chi - This guy is the ultimate MK bastard. Sure, Shang Tsung's an evil scumbag and he killed Liu Kang's brother and Liu Kang himself... but Quan Chi's been behind the scenes longer. He's the main cause of grief for both Scorpion and Sub-Zero, along with many other characters like Li Mei, Sareena, Shinnok, Drahmin, and host of others. He's the ultimate bad guy.
4. Raiden - Raiden's been a fan-favorite and mainstay for most of the games. Fan outcry basically was the reason he was included in MK: Deception. He's become a far more "interesting" character lately, and I'd like to see them follow up on him.
I'm still assuming Scorpion and Sub-Zero are mainstays.

Nowhere, ever has it specifically mentioned the previous characters aren't coming back.
You really think they’re going to scrap all of the established fan favorites? Of course there’s going to be a lot of new ones, but that wouldn't be smart to have enough trust in a cast with no familiar faces.

Gotta agree with you Brad, it would be totally stupid of them to ditch the characters we all know and love. We've all seen how terribly Midway has been with creating new characters this last generation. IMO, it would be wise of them to ditch any new characters from DA,D and A and just focus on perfecting their already stellar cast.
I don't know. They could be doing what Street Fighter III did, which had a COMPLETELY new cast with NO returning "fan favorites" except the established Ryu and Ken characters, sort of like how only Sub-Zero and Scorpion are the "de facto" faces of MK. While I'm sure plenty of old characters will return, I won't be surprised if the vast majority of characters, fan favorites or not, don't make the cut.

Hm...
Raiden: I have a pretty awkward, but reasonable stand point on Raiden actually. I would personally hate to see him killed or simply ousted for illogical, improbable, or "out of character" reasons. Seems ironic, I know conidering his current state and all. But the thing is, I could except Raiden not coming back if it were done sufficiently. Same way I thought he was gone from MK forever during MK3-UMK3 or MKSM.
It's some what of a biased stand point I guess(cuz he's my fav character and all), heheh. But it's like, if they don't elaborate, and make perfect sense on such a staying character being gone....a character that has pretty stretch-y reasoning behind being gone in the first place, I would have a hard time accepting his absence.
And it's especially biased because of the manner in which they've pretty much mis-handled all the characters to their own extent. But anyway, I could accept Raiden not being there....he'd just have to have sufficient, reasonable closure.
Kai: I'd hate to see the concept of this character go. Not because he has a great story and great moves...or even a superb look. It's mainly because he steps away from the stereotypical "black guy" in a video game.
I think they stumbled upon the way Kia ended up in attitude and in overall disposition so, even if he goes, to draw from his disassociation with the stereotypes needs to stay for any future black characters.
If they get rid of the concept of Kai in trade for another Darrius("overcome the man" type bullshit...[I know that wasn't their intent with Darrius, but again, look at him. He's a black guy who's rebellious against an oppression]), or another Jax(strong guy)and I'll be pretty disgruntled.
Shang Tsung: If they get rid of that merciless, cowardly, snake.....I will be pissed. You can't hate a guy for more reasons than you do him. He's so....."fuck him". He's the guy that makes up discriminatory questions on an application...and then, when you supersede all that, he fires you because you took a 30+1 min lunch break. He is Macaulay Culkin in "The Good Son", he is the utterly resentful Bum on the corner, he is the handicapped person who treats everybody around him extremely bad. He is the most morally dysfunctional, most cynical bastard who is just Such a fuckin asshole...Such a fuckin snake. If they get rid of his element in the game...MK is doomed.
Sareena: She is the adequate void filler for Sonya and Queen Sindel combined. She is new, and has the makings of an acceptable replacement for them both. If you look at her appearance in comparison to Sindel, and her training as far as Sonya....without her there, the other two have to come back....now. They did a good job with Sareena, bring her back and take care of this character please.
Kenshi: "Master of the Flying Guillotine"(man with one arm)....the seemingly disadvantaged character who is under-estimated but is still an extremely powerful character. We need a character who can reasonably be set up to "move mountains". That is, because of a seemingly obvious disadvantage.
========
I guess I'm still more of a concept guy. Cuz I wouldn't be upset if most all the characters go. So long as the ones that are there are either:
a. Ended sufficiently
b. Adequately replaced
or..
c. The concept for them returns and are taken care of well, through their stories development, appearance, and fighting habbits.
Everything needs to make sense in the future MK's.
