How would you wanna unlock characters? (Krypt etc) I would like the same as MKDA that was the best Krypt EVER! And it was also a fun way to unlock characters and i would always try to unlock every box (never did in the end :( ) I also liked it when you bought coffins and they were empty but i sometimes did get annoyed lol.
Also instead of it telling you how much it was it only said it was Jade, Sapphire,Ruby,Onyx and Platinum correct me if there is more coins. That would be even better instead of it telling you the price it made it abit obvious that the 6000 Jade coffin was a character, costume or Arena.
Any ideas feel free to post.

i like the way in ssbm you had to do a certain thing then had to beat them that would be good

Beat enemies on a certain difficulty to earn them and for the 360 throw in an achievement to go along with it
I'd like it to be kept pretty simple, but make it something you HAVE to do. I would personally make it so you have to beat the character in story mode to open them. This also would give the dev a really cool way to add in some mythical "Super-Unlockables". I wouldn't even have these "SUs" have blacked out boxes on the character select screen, and I wouldn't even tell anyone they're in there. They'd be total surprises for people untill people start finding them. I'd hide both secret portals, and secret side-missions from the denizens of the story world. I wouldn't even tell the strategy guide people about them. Or I'd ask them to omit a page that could be printed later by people. A few weeks after release I'd mention them (probably to confirm their existence) in an interview, but not say how many there are. Then not until they were either all found, or 5 months later, I'd let people know how many there are, and have Brady release the printable page on their website.
(that's right, the only person on the internet to properly use their, there, and they're, right here........I also know the difference between to and too. Sorry the internet is starting to get to me.)

Uh, you're not the only person to know how to use proper grammar on the internet. Just wanted to point that out.
And even if you didn't release the black-outs on the guide someone would find out and put them on gamefaqs.

Hmm, very interesting question...
You know how in SSX Tricky you had to perform several moves in order to unlock either a new board or new clothing?
I have to say that you should unlock characters by performing several combos, the tougher combos that is. I'm tired of this you earn money then you buy the coffins. Becuase the internet usually tells you what coffin the character is in, why not we have a game where cheats are impossible to perform in the game? And the only way to unlock everything is you have to do it yourself rather than relying on other people to do the job for you.

You sunk my battleship. *poof!*

Inadvertant unlocking is the way to go.
Like... if you leave the game on pause for an hour and thirty-two minutes, you inadvertantly unlock Degaton. If you don't skip all the producer promos at the beginning of the game, you inadvertantly unlock Booster Gold. If you spend your fight turtling, you unlock Aquaman. If you have a Singstar mic left in the player 2 slot and you sneeze louder than 50dB, you unlock Reptile. If you spend twenty-hours straight playing the game and really enjoy it, you unlock Lobo. And if you spend your time trying out rumored methods to unlock Rain, your memory card gets wiped, and your console self-destructs.

Because some people who aren't able to do that may want to, oh, I don't know, actually play with everything they shelled out good money for!
Honestly, what is it with people having a problem with others unlocking things faster? It's their game, let them play it the way they want too.

MK2 style... where you gotta earn your stripes.

I am getting very annoyed with you always throwing your weak, pitty comments about the way I comment. Vexta asked how unlockables should be unlocked, I gave him/her my opinion... unless you seriously have a problem with the way I comment, knock it off, because you getting ticked at me for a really stupid reason is getting annoying.
The reason why I do not like cheat codes is because it ruins the way the game plays. GTA 4 allows you to cheat, yet if you do, your ranking goes down. Why play a game with cheats if you know its going to effect you in the future?
1st thing, I don't look at who I'm replying to, so I didn't know it was you until you pointed it out. I might have noticed had your avvy not changed though.
2nd, let's say I put down sixty dollars for a game. Now, why should I have to do something I either don't want to, or am incapable of doing when I payed for everything in the game? Finding out how to do it wouldn't be using a cheat code. Imagine if Tekken made you pull off a Kinniku Buster with King in an actual fight in order to unlock Armor King, good lord, almost no one would have him.
But I'm all for unlocking, and I like to do it for myself, as you obviously do. This is a trait I respect in people. I just feel that the method shouldn't be some ridiculous super feat, you know? Regular people do buy this game, and many of them don't have the skill to pull off the really long combos. Not being able to unlock everything turns people off of the game and reduces sales.
Anyways, leave the beef in the other topic, holding a grudge is bad for you.

Maybe MKvsDC could be released with a peripheral that measures your mood, and changes the colour of the ninjas accordingly.
Frustrating boss, or opportunity to unlock Ermac? U-decide!
Same peripheral: You have to work up a sweat to unlock Flash.
It'll be great. We'll totally market it to the fit-tainment freaks. Drop sixty pounds to unlock Supergirl. It's fantastic.

It would never be Ermac though.Every time you get close to winning you'll stop being angry and wind up with SubZ.
Which, in itself, is frustrating, so I guess you COULD get Ermac. But then when you see the thing turn red again you'll get happy...
IT'S A VICIOUS CYCLE!!!!!!!!

Yeah, unless all the MK fans are too busy being sexually frustrated, in which case all they can do is unlock Rain.

Nothing about this game really rings "I want more from it". So, I don't think unlockables are something I'd like to see..or really care for. I mostly don't care, or I just wanna get it over with.
BUT, using stuff like the one kid said, where things are more interactive with the "super-dooper combo or special moves//fatality, or that require you to figure out a puzzle, or apply to the character, and are environmentally creative are the ways to go. It's the way it was in the very beginning with finding Reptile actually...they'd just have to modernize it. Make it something to remember...
I came up with the idea of how Liu Kang found Reptile in the MK1 movie...it'd be opportunity based...and would rely on "when" Reptile decides to show up in the background of the arena you're fighting in. They should have been putting this types of stuff in the games by now iMo.
And it's certainly something possible with these newer programs they're using. But, that would consider that they consider something so inventive. meh.
