Best part of the announcement was the Joker! His character model looks awesome, I can't wait to see his specials! If I could, I'd add the smeared lipstick (or w/e the red thing is) around his mouth, it adds to his crazed, deranged look. But I did read that they couldn't do anything related to the movies, so it's excellent as is!
Jax is fine. I wasn't yearning for his presence, but I did expect him to be in, and he doesn't bother me one bit. Look-wise, he seems to have gone through a couple changes, but his costume IS dominated by dark/earth colors, so we can't see any details. I'll wait for the high-res render before I give further opinions.
Alright, now for the down side...
As for Kitana, it looks like their creativity was way too spent from the other characters by the time they got to her, and they just went the "whatever the fuck" route. I mean, seriously, Sub-Zero and Scorpion are two characters that have kept pretty much the same "type" of design all throughout these years, and the MK Team still managed to spice them up and make them look "refreshed"! Sonya, they let her retain influences of all her past looks, and still, the outcome was surprising, new, and also "refreshed". Even Shang Tsung looks updated, despite our obvious expectations. Then we get Liu Kang with very minor changes, making him look passable but not satisfying. And now Kitana, looking more like "just another of the female ninjas" than ever! The girl already has a hard enough time being unique among her many Edenian counterparts... has the MK Team given up on her or something? I expected Liu Kang to look hopelessly generic, but I thought Kitana was more valuable than he was, enough that she wouldn't go the same route.
I dunno, I hope the high-res render changes my mind, but as of right now, she just looks bland and very boring to look at, like she's wearing a Halloween costume Sindel sewed together just in time for trick-or-treating before the other girls left. Sucks she wasn't given the same amount of attention as the characters who were first announced, particularly the first three chosen characters, Scorpion, Sub, and Sonya (lots of S's in MK, huh?)

That's what I think. Looking at the low-res pic of Joker in the YouTube video and then looking at his high-res render, I saw that the bad version, despite omitting very nice details, basically could tell anyone what they did for the Joker model. If I were you guys, I wouldn't expect much of a change in the real Kitana render.

I'm sure the majority of the Kitana fans will be pleased by it, those who aren't, well if you haven't been a fan of hers before then Im not sure there is anything that will change your mind now. As long as Kitana's long time fans like her new look, then its all good.
I completely disagree. Sub and Scorpion do have their ninja oufits, but enough has been done and updated that they look refreshed, updated. Shang's outfit has similarities to his MK2-3 look, but again, you can tell they spent time on enough minor changes that it makes a noticeable difference, particularly with his hair, facial structure and features, and even overall costume. As for Sonya, you've got it completely backwards, the only part you're 100% right about is the white tank top. She doesn't have cargo pants, in fact, her new style of pants is completely new, same go for her boots (arguably the best part of her costume), beret, gloves, and the small subtleties like the tan lines and lack of bra (as superficial as they are, they do count as minor, yet new qualities). You can tell the MK Team put effort in her new look, cared enough to change a little bit here, change a little bit there, add something new here, put something new there, until she looked new and satisfying for her fans. This isn't the case for Kitana no matter how you look at it, I mean, if I saw that low-res Sonya render before a real screenshot, I could instantly tell she had been updated and renewed. I saw the low-res Kitana render, and it's just boring, IMO, sorry.
I do acknowledge the
POSSIBILITY that there are very well-hidden updates in her look that we can't see in the low-res render. But realistically enough, I also acknowledge how unlikely that is, and how unlikely it is that if there ARE such updates, they'll be satisfying enough to make this new Kitana as "new" as the other characters who were confirmed first.
Hopefully, they will include Mileena and her "unique attributes" will give them some good ideas for her new look, so that she won't suffer the same fate as her "sister".
