Kitana= Spanish (you can realize that not only from her looks but her weapon too, a fan is a traditional female accessory in Spain).
Jade= Lebanese (they are hot, check out this famous Lebanese girl known for her beauty:

Mileena= Arabian (her outfit and tough attitude simply tells it).

Crow have asked us to stop talking about character's races, especially those who doesn't have anything to do with this thread, so please, lets get off the subject. We all got our own opinions on what race we think the character's are, but until midway actually breaks down all the characters exact races and influrences, then its a no win, we are all wrong. So lets get back to the main point of the thread.

She should HAVE her mask, she's been known to have it more oftent then not anyway. Kitana that is.
Besides, she looks better and more badass with it.

I'd actually say that Jax is my favorite character out of the four announced. I really miss his MK2 look (minus the box cut, but they could update that) and while I'm not a fan of the mechanical arms, he was always one of my favorite characters to use back then.
The gotcha grab, the quad throw, ground pound, back breaker etc, he had such an awesome power game. You really felt like you could kick the snot out of someone with Jax back in the day. Hopefully he brings that power game to MK vs DC. No gun. Stick with "gotcha!" for a catch phrase and stop trying to make him "cool." His power game is what makes him cool.
Joker looks good, and I imagine he'll probably have some sort of acid-from-the-flower move, but what else are they going to do with him? I hope that his moves are more sadistic and less funny/silly.
Green Lantern? Meh, whatever. Looks pretty standard/boring in my opinion. I'll wait to see what he does but if any of his moves are ripped from past MK characters, then he'll be kind of a throw away character to me.
Kitana looks good. Probably the best outfit she's had since her masked look in MK:DA.
I really hope that they give these characters alot of good moves from the past (for MK characters) and alot of new moves as well. Some of the DC characters seem to have moves that are exactly like, or very similar to past MK characters (hello Kano's eye laser... I mean Superman's...well, eye laser) and I hope that trend is severely minimized.
Just on the side, but has anyone noticed the fact that there hasn't been one MK character announced that began in MK later than MK2? Scorpion, Sub Zero, Sonya, Liu Kang, Jax, Kitana, Shang Tsung (have I missed any?). I'm assuming that the final three MK characters will be Mileena, Rayden and Baraka, with Kano or possibly Quan Chi having an outside chance.
In other words, if Quan Chi doesn't make it... Since MK2, there have been ZERO iconic characters in the MK universe? Wow, that's just sad. Maybe the MK team should stop thinking of gimmicks like close quarters, running through walls, MK kart racing, MK Chess, the aggressor meter, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc and maybe concentrate on making compelling characters.

Kenshi? Is it Kenshi? Is Kenshi more compelling? Blind Kenshi?
He was with the Special Forces too, you know. Is it him?

Sadly, the most compelling characters don't necessarily equal the most iconic. Part of what makes a character iconic is their recurring presence in the series, and since MK2, what characters...besides Quan Chi...have had prominant and consistent presence?
Most of the MK3 characters disappeared into limbo until Deception. The only MK4 characters to return before Armageddon was Quan Chi and Tanya...who only came back herself in Deception. And how can the newer MK:DA and Deception characters become "iconic" when they've only just been introduced?
I do hope Quan Chi makes it in, though...even if he isn't as "iconic" as some of the other sacred cows from MK1 and MK2. He's far more relevant a character than Kano, Johnny Cage, and Baraka combined, IMO.

IMO, "iconic" relies more upon a memorable character design than appearances. It just so happens that characters with great, iconic, character designs usually generate the biggest positive reaction from fans and therefore are brought back for multiple appearances.
On a side note, the cyborgs might fit the format of iconic, post-MK2 characters, but with a roster of ten or so characters, I'd say there's just a small chance that maybe one of them will make it in.

I don't agree at all. If that were the case, would Jax really be in this game over, well just about any of the palette swap ninjas? If they want a reaction of the MK fanbase, and that's all they are going to get with most of the MK characters, then wouldn't they put in people that were clearly more popular than Jax (and there are a numerous amount of those), if "iconic" actually meant "popular", as you are suggesting?
Let's face it... the MKDA and MKD characters have had one or two games to capture people's imaginations. Armageddon does not count in my mind because in essence it was nothing more than a newer MK Trilogy. Most of the characters don't have bios and the endings are very poorly done. It makes very few characters look good.
Quan Chi, Ermac, Reptile, Noob Saibot, Kenshi, Cyrax, Sektor... I could go on and on really, all of these characters are more liked than Jax and would have been received better. The older the character is, the better. That, to me, is what "iconic" means to the MK team. I highly doubt we see any characters that were created after MK2.

Appearance is also a factor in making a character "iconic." Which may be another reason why the majority of Mortal Kombat's "icons" are characters from MK1 and MK2...who had probably some of the simplest cookie-cutter designs in the series' history.
Another factor to consider is the fanbase itself. I think it's no secret that a large portion of the MK fanbase has a tendency to bury it's head in the sand at the very thought of something new or different while kicking and screaming that the "originals" are the only good characters.

I don't think that's the tactile definition being applied to the MK cast, but then, I don't really think iconic has been the one-word hard and fast rule people have made it out to be.

I was hoping for the MK Gold look minus the hair bun, but I can't say I'm surprised with the direction they went with Kitana.

Is this the one you're referring to? If so, what's wrong with the hair bun? It would make sense to tie one's hair up when going into kombat, would it not? Other than that, I agree with you, I love the skimpy, laced up number she's wearing here.

^That's the one. I think that her hair having free flow looks more elegant, but that's just me. And skimpy laced up number ftw.

skimpy lace = win.
hair down = win.
So by logic Kitana's new look = win

That's why Mortal Kombat is a fantasy. Kitana is so cool, she can fight even with her absurdly long hair flying around.
The bun really is ugly looking. Not flattering at all and her hair flying about just looks cooler. I don't even care if her outfit is just an slightly updated re-hash of the standard blue bathing suit. No hair bun =

Actually, I prefer the hair bun. Gives her a more Asian killer chick feel, more of an "I mean business" look.

His popularity is going to grow exponentially in the next 2-3 years. After that I think DC will finally be able to start and keep an ongoing comic for Captain Marvel. Especially, if Black Adam is involved in the storyline.

I guess you've never seen any of the original Superman movies. Especially, the first two. They weren't Batman and they didn't suck. You've just been hatin on Captain Marvel because you don't like him. It's been like that since I first started posting on here and supporting Captain Marvel. All of your opinion's are biased and not open minded. When movies are viewed by a world wide audience a character's popularity will increase. Give me a break.

I know you didn't select these characters systematically, but it's interesting that three of the characters on the list are not only ninjas, but hidden characters (well, supposedly Ermac). I'm willing to bet that any character that was hidden between MK1 or 3 would rank pretty high on iconic list, especially considering Mortal Kombat was born out of the arcade halls. The whole idea behind MK is finding out secret bonuses, whether it be from magazines or word of mouth, and applying them in game. That's what made fatality inputs so highly sought after.
Remember the days of seeing people crowd around an MKII machine? They weren't just watching, they were waiting. They wanted to see what happened after the announcer yelled "Finisher him."
All I'm saying is that the hidden bonuses were an intricate part of the MK appeal, and I find it odd none of the MK characters so far have made it into the game so far. I mean, when I played MK2 for the first time, who did I pick?
Reptile. That's how strong the hidden status affected me.
