“The resolution of these licensing arrangements on good terms for the company is a very positive step as we continue to review Midway’s involvement with under performing projects and focus on our core properties,” said Matt Booty, interim CEO and president. “Our fall lineup and strong pipeline of games that tie in to market-leading licenses like DC Comics and TNA Wrestling underscore our strategy of aligning with consumer and entertainment properties that can drive a solid gaming experience.”
This possibly means that if this game does well we could see a sequel....

It is a CNN interview, and Ed Boon tries to answer a question from weary parents. (Read the last question) He basically sais and I quote:
GameTap: So do you feel that parents groups who reacted so strongly in the 1990s to your game will look at Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe and say, "Finally, Ed Boon has come to his senses!" Ed Boon: I am wondering about that myself. Certainly, MK was one of those games associated with violence in videogames, so I can see certain parents making absolute decisions with their kids. Part of what we're doing is communicating that Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe is a different game. "The DC license will partly communicate this notion, but what it boils down to is the novelty of having these two sets of characters fighting together. What we're really most excited about is asking what is Mortal Kombat? And redefining it and rebooting it. That's the most exciting part. "
What does this mean? Ed Boon is a liar and should be fired on the spot. We aren't going to get a "pure" MK game, we are going to get a sequel people!

This isn't Midway's first DC game, people.
They made Justice League Heroes, as well.
An optemist would probably assume the reference to the DC license is also taking into account a continued association through solo projects. (Even though they've been pretty upfront all along about the prospect of an MK/DC sequel)

MK and DC I now pronounce you mortal and wife lol, kidding.
In all seriousness though, it wouldn't bite me in the neck as much as long as the sequel is a true side project and doesn't affect a mature rated MK 9 in any form or fashion. After April 18, I learned not to put anything past Boon. My ultimate fear is that months after this game hits Boon will be interviewed stating that MK9 will once again be that mature, dark, and griity MK that we've been hoping for. We all rest assured on his speech, but months later during mid development the marketing people come to boon again saying that we need to scrap MK9 and make it MK vs DC2 to get money. Boon agrees and were hit with another shock.
Now I'm no swami. I'm just saying that If something like this were to happen again, I'm microwaving a bag of popcorn and going straight to the rant thread because its gonna be one hell of a show.

I don't know where you get your info from, but Justice League Heroes was developed by Snowblind Studios. The developers of games such as Baldure's Gate Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath.
If Midway would've had prior experience with the DC franchise, believe me, this game would look a whole lot different.

I wouldn't mind a MKVSDC2, big deal. May I remind you all that the last two main mk games have stunk.

This is what I get for not fact checking!
I wonder if there are any stipulations to how Midway use the license. The thought could still be that they'll develop new DC games, but I guess they might be tied to crossovers...

I agree with the Pro-MKvsDC people. They're not selling out, they're simply evolving (I also say this to the ignorant people who say musicians sell out). They're experimenting, they're trying something new, they're reaching out to a broader audience . How is this a bad thing? They lost the shitty farting characters, the Jello blood, the lousy mini-games, and they're going for a unique approach.
As mentioned, the last 2 MK games were really horrible. At this point on it's a blessing they're going for a new approach. Also, let's be honest, the DC characters fit well into the MK universe. They finally started using better looking blood, better looking models, better looking animations, they re-added Fatalities, they fixed the fighting engine... it's basically an MK game with DC characters thrown in.
Also, before we all frown, weep, and cry... let's think logic. No one has played the game yet, so why is the game so horrible already? I'm sure everyone had the same expression when the Marvel Vs Capcom franchise came about, and look, that turned out to be one of the greatest fighting games of all time.
I'm actually glad they're making all these changes. Soul Calibur 4 was the same shit I played the last 3 games. Tekken 6 will probably feel and play the same as 5. Street Fighter 4 hasn't really made any major changes either. As much as I love all those games, it's nice to see a new refreshing side to fighting games. I've been waiting forever for a Marvel Vs Capcom, but it's probably not going to happen... but I'm glad I got something to replace those broken dreams with.
Wait until the game comes out... try it out. You might actually like it and grow into it. For all you know it could be the best MK game since MKII, going back to it's old-school roots. Then again, maybe it's the worst MK game ever... who knows? one thing's for sure, there's no telling at the moment. It's a matter of having the patience and waiting another month just to get the final word on the product. Only then can one really say whether the game is really good or bad.

I agree with you for the most part, but musicians CAN sell out, changing your sound to cater to popular trends for the sole purpose of cashing in IS selling out not musical evolution, If Slipknot turned into emo boy band tomorrow, you would definitely say they sold out. The difference between music in video games is simple: Music is art first and a consumer product second, Video games are a consumer product first and art second.

My problem with an MK vs DC series is not so much the evolution of the series, but the horribly sour note the original franchise will have ended on(if this does indeed become mortal kombat). I have loved the series and it's story for a long time, and to just see the original series of games end in one gigantic cluster fuck with kreate a fatality sprinkled on for good measure, sucks. Maybe if they had put as much effort into making the last few TRUE mortal kombat games with the respect they deserved(hell, with the respect they've given MK vs DC), maybe I wouldn't be so hesitant to say "bring on MK vs DC II".
Slipknot is a perfect example because Slipknot HAS evolved. Of course they're not gonna do some emo thing, that's a huge drastic change... but jokes aside, do you remember when slipknot first came into the scene. They were like these immature bullies who always fought on stage, vomit all over eachother, and scream like there is no tomorrow. Now they have aged, they have grown, and they have matured. No more do they jump off buildings, set eachother on fire, bash their heads on walls, fighting eachother... they now focus on a broader audience, Cory's vocals have gone from pointless lyrics and screaming to actually capturing story, mood, and melody. They now have a larger audience, bigger and better concerts, and now they have started incorporating guitar solos, which shows that not only have they grown but they've also learned a lot since their humble beginnings.
Which is basically everything MK has been doing. They aren't a 4 man team anymore. They've aged and matured from the jello blood, stiff fighting, and farting. They're getting bigger, broader, and better audiences. They're reaching out to more people now. They have also learned a lot since their humble beginnings too... and by listening to the fans about what worked and what didn't (as well as learning from past mistakes) they can incorporate all of this into a solid game... for instance, the stiff fighting-- they're going back to MKII... KAF-- they're going back to standard fatalities--- KATAS, they're going back to endings-- Mini-games, they decided to remove it all together and actually focus on the fighting, etc...
Maybe this is how I'm seeing it all, and I don't expect everyone to agree with everything as people will generally have different views and that's respected. This is how I view it though...

I agree with you sir. I was done with this franchise after Armageddon, I demanded drastic change and I got it so Im happy thus far.

lol, Let's not get into this shit again...
But yeah. Obviously they're going to focus on franchises which make them money. That's business. It'd be pretty funny for people to expect them not to.
If adding characters from other franchises from here on out is what Midway are planning to do with Mortal Kombat I don't really care. As long as I can still off people in entertaining ways after I fight them, that's all that matters to me. Well, you know, a playable game matters more. But if the next MK game plays decently and I can still decapitate people then I don't care if Alf and and Bigbird are in it.
i definitly agree with your post vomit. the only thing i will say is with gimmicks like freefall, klose kombat and rage mode. you cant expect much out of this game, despite the improvements you mentioned.
again, i agree with your post. and the standard kombat might be good as you also mentioned.
so when it comes down to it, its a few things in my eyes ( for now, since i havent played it yet )
1) there will be a sequel because this game will sell.
2) regardless of how the game sells, you cant expect much out of it due to the 3 things i mentioned. (opinion)
3) the standard kombat might be good and they can at least use that for the next game, whatever they decide to do, and just scrap the parts of mkdc that people didnt like, which i suspect will be those 3 things.
4) those 3 things are being used to help the game sell...
so is the game a failure? its more like a test for the future.
and with that said, its a money making project FOR NOW. but at least they can start to build on it. (hopefully) im not even the least bit interested in the mk characters.. been there, done that. that is the EXACT opposite of how i felt when the game was announced. so their marketing plan in that respect worked!
again, i agree with your post, as much as it might not seem like i am, or contradicting myself. thats how i see it. and no, i understood none of those posts you mentioned.
