Why is it, that mortal kombat fans are always so full of negativity when a new MK game is announced.

Simply put, don't judge a book by its cover, wait and see what the game will be like when you sit down and actually play it. It most likely will be extremely fun.

As a mortal kombat fan since its birth many moons ago, I look forward to change. Mortal kombat as a franchise needs to continue to grow and develop.

With 7 previous games, not to mention ultimate and trilogy versions its time Kombat step into a new world.

And the end of the day it is just a game, games should be fun its that simple.....

Sounds to me like you're the one judging books by their cover...

As a lifelong MK fan, I was positively bursting with positivity over the last three games. (Deception, Shaolin Monks & Armageddon) I defended their positive points to bejesus and back, and while they had a few shortcomings, overall, I was happy with them.

This game however, I'm incredibly upset with, and have been vocally against.

Maybe it -seems- like everyone is always negative, but that's just because you get more negativity out of the internet than positivity in general. Having anonymity in front of an audience encourages jerk-offs to come out of the woodwork. That's not something exclusive to the Mortal Kombat fanbase, that's everywhere. You think it's strong on these forums? Try out the worldofwarcraft.com forums. With over 10 billion players worldwide, that place is such a cesspool of negativity that you choke on fumes and drown within an instant of stepping in.

But ANYWAY... point is... we weren't ALL negative over the last few games. Some of us, like myself, were positive. So with my score being 3 to 1, I think I have a right to be negative for a change. Every now and then, everyone does... so...

Bite me. :P

Many peopel have been positive about the last few MK games. It's the games themselves that have been the negative and spwaned the negativity because they were not up to scratch. Deception and Armageddon are valid case in points here. If people wish to be negative, then let them. People are not going to like everything they see and hear about the game and that's perefectly normal and understandable. Given the rubbish we've had to put up with as well, I think it's perfectly reasonable.

We can disagree on whether or not we like games or concepts behind the games, like I disagree with tgrant above on Deception, and to a lesser extent Armageddon (I liked both games). In this case, the negativity comes from being promised a brand-new MK game on the current-gen consoles, and instead getting a lame-ass crossover. This just allows the guys at Midway to be lazy and not have to actually come up with new characters or an interesting new storyline for their prized franchise. If they haven't learned already, and apparently they haven't, they're gonna learn that they can't just slap the MK name on any old shiny piece of feces and expect everybody to continue to be in their thrall.

Well, after the disgusting and horrible and pathetic and unfinished and completely mediocre MKA....you cant blame the fans.

As for this new game...I honestly don’t know what I feel about this:

The Positive

It actually looks like a very *fun* and very interesting idea.

The Negative sad

- We were promised a brand new **MK** that was “darker, more brutal, etc”, but:
- No fatalities?
- No super gore?
- No darkness?
- No STORY AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????????
- No STORY closure for MKA (and MKD and MKDA) AGAIN!!!!!!!????
- I'm not really into any of the DC characters nor “love” any of them.
- etc.
- From the trailer, though it does look exciting...I'm just kind of disappointed the models don’t look that WOW or different. Sure the graphics are BEAUTIFUL!!!! But...Sub-Zero (and Batman) look soooo much like the MKA characters in models and graphics.
*
*
*
I don’t know.

I'm really disappointed we are not getting a new and REAL Mk game. Were did all that “darker, more brutal, more wow” thing do???? Another promise (yet again) they decided to toss aside?

BUT on the positive side....this is really a BREATH OF FRESH AIR, something NEW that looks INTERESTING...I hope it works well.

I'm actually excited to know who we got from MK! I hope its mostly the super classics, because for this kind of game, those are the ones who represent MK the best.

But for some annoying reason, I have a feeling they will give the DC characters a more prominent role. I don’t know, but I feel like they are going to favor DC over MK...I hope I'm wrong, because that would immediately SUCK!

I'm going to keep an open mind.

The picture and trailer both look awesome (but not really super new for an nex-gen new "mk" game).

I actually have high expectations for this game.
I really believe that it will have blood and fatalities.
There is enough evidence to suggest it will.

richiestoner101 Wrote:

There WILL be fatalities.
Trust me.

Example,
DC comics and Darkhorse comics crossed over with Predator vs Batman and the even darker Aliens vs Batman both are interesting and blood soaked. If they can show Gotham city being torn apart and leaving skinned bodies having from buildings, they can allow Mortal Kombat characters to decapitate Batman.

The actually possibilities for this are quite endless.
It should - at the least - be an extremely fun game to play and have very nice graphics indeed.

That is one thing, but ripping the head off, or chopping up or impaling beloved characters like superman or batman is another thing entirely. It just doesn't seem to go with the DC comics legacy.

I'm not sure what I make of this.
I have been an MK fan since some of you were in diapers, since the beginning. I remember the hayday at the arcade. I remember all of this, and have followed the story closely. I can understand how a LOT of people would be negative towards this, myself included. It seems only the fanboys are the ones that are like "hey, give it a shot! Looks awesome! Midway can do no wrong!"
From what I have seen so far, I AM willing to give it a shot. This "worlds collide" idea ALMOST sounds like a decent idea, but I still say that the DC universe was a poor, poor choice. EVERYONE I talk to about this says the same thing..."You're kidding, right?"
On the bright side, gameplay looks interesting. We will see.

I am soo against this games creation it hurts. Myself, like many others, have been a lifelong Mortal Kombat fan, I've been playing these games since I was just a little boy and have idolize their characters like I'm sure DC fans have idolized their characters. Not to mention the fatalities. Well, we should have seen this coming because they pretty much took those out in MKA.

I've been hard on the Midway team over the past games especially Armageddon and the ideas they added to that masterpiece. Compared to this game though, Armageddon doesn't seem like such a bad game anymore, in fact, its game of the year to me now.

When all those new facts were being revealed 2 years ago, the new fatality system, create a fighter, every character, no story, a new adventure mode etc etc, they took flames from the fans for that and guys like me bashed the Midway team before the game even came out and when it did, I still didn't like it one bit even after I had played their new features.

Where I was going with that top paragraph was that even before playing this new game and hating it, that chance of it sucking hard tit like the news of it does, still exists and is very large.

I've read alot of MKO users posts on alot of these threads and its pretty much divided in 2. All the users with alot of visits seem to all agree with one another (which is to be expected, there won't be any disagreeing going on there) and all these top visitor users all seem to wet their pants and verbally assault anyone that is against seeing a new fighting system. If anyone openly admits that they can live with the MKD and MKA fighting engine but just want Mortal Kombat the way it has been for over 15 years, they are ridiculed and verbally put down by these users/fans who are die hards for a better fighting engine. And that makes me negative about all this news. If you want a better fighting system with superheroes, then go fucken play a DC game as Superman and have a ball, leave the fans of the actual Mortal Kombat Universe alone.

Just for the record...I remember queve and TGrant from many years ago
tongue

To sum up my disgusting rant here on your forums, I am soo dissapointed in this decision. After all these years, all those hours learning and dominating Mortal Kombat games, hours upon hours of excitement and amusement over killing your best friend as Sub-Zero, it boils down to the Midway team trying to revamp the series by exploiting it to another fanbase? That is insulting and down right disrespectful to the fans. Anyone of you can disagree with that and quote me on it all day long but understand that what this game series has become and what I said, is true.

This reminds me of that King Of The Hill episode where Hank, Bill, Dale and Boomhauer maintain the terf on that football field because the groundskeeper was getting too old to look after it properly and he ends up screwing it up in the end. Ed Boon is doing that to his franchise.

And also for the record, I had alot to say about this choice and wanted to word it carefully but also didn't want to post it in 10,000 threads so I made this one extra long.

I didn't buy Armageddon because I thought the game was going to suck, and I thought it did and because of that game, I lost alot of faith in the Midway team but still somewhere inside me there was a little fire still burning hot enough to make me believe that Midway will redeem themselves and kick me in the teeth with a great game. I have literally just discovered this crossover news 2 days ago and now that it is officially confirmed, I think that fire just burnt out.

I am pissed off at the Midway team but moreso than that, I am dissapointed. They sold out.

Ten years ago if you had said MK was going to feature DC and have no blood or fatalities, shit, even 2! years ago had you said that I would have called you an idiot. I can't believe this is happening, I really can't.

I know I sound like a crybaby or a 'whiner' like some users have suggested, but I am/was extremely passionate for this franchise and it was apart of life for many years. I am not even going to take the time to play this game let alone buy it.

Ah well, I'll always have Mortal Kombat II. wink

I have thought the same thing ever since I watched the interview with Ed Boon. I hope he does give the MK characters just as a prominent role as the DC Characters.

Another thing bothering me is the DC Characters costumes. They just look so... they just don't fit in. I think that is the primary reason why Batman was shown first, as he is the closest you are going to get to a costume looking like something from MK from a DC Character.

I'm not full of negativity. I'm full of confusion.

I think I'm one of the lucky ones. I lucked out. I'm not enraged or bitter but rather I get this lightheaded feeling in my head, like you get when you stay up too late eating cheese puffs, playing drinking games, or watching an Uwe Boll film, that just makes me question whether this is sane or not and whether that pink unicorn in the corner is ever going to give me back my nachos.

... and that's how I feel about MK vs DC.

Well its funny you should create a photo depciting that scenario because that is exactly whats going to happen. MK will not exist without those factors and if you think it is then yeah, your sadly mistaking.

In the first place though, why in the fuck do people like you even bother with MK if you dont give a shit about the gore and fatalities? Why dont you just go the fuck on over to DC videa games and just be done with it. Coming to MK with your cleverly composed photographs isn't going to change anyones minds anymore than those of us complaing are going to change yours.

Um, I hate the idea. I'm just making light of the situation.

You see, when someone special to you dies, people react to it in different ways. There's denial, sadness, and rage. I like to look on the sunny side and remember the good times we used to have... before the dementia set in.

I remember the good times alright, some of those good times are now including Mortal Kombat Armageddon comapred to this atrocity of an idea.

I've said above, I'll always have MK II and will not be playing let alone buying this game. Mortal Kombat is dead to me and that makes me sound like a little pansy who just scraped his knee but this franchise has been apart of my life since I was just a little boy and to see it go out like this because the fucken developers believe in making a more profitable dollar, makes me sad and disappointed.

This game is not going to succeed. It may get a few shitty verbal awards from a few gaming websites but thats about it. Please expect this MK game to flop and to flop hard.

People like all those defending this new idea are the ones who have defended the ideas that took place in Armageddon and look how that turned out, it is easily their worst creataion to date, pending the release of this new one.

Mortal Kombat is going to parish, Ah well, at least Boon and his bushy eyebrows will be happy.

This has been like a fucking rebelion, a war waged here on MKO between the people who accept this nonsence bullshit game, and the so caled "crossover haters" like myself, who highly disaprove this shit.

It's sad this is happening, but Boon and the Miway team are certainly keeping an eye on here, and on the other big MK sites, aswell as on youtube, were there already are rant videos about this new crap game, and by a heavenly miracle the MK team will realize what they need to do: Kick DC comics right in the butt, and give a us a REAL MORTAL KOMBAT GAME.

Whats funny about all these slicing & killing is that i have not saw any skull yet... but i'm cool with that!

After defeating the "crossover lovers", the "crossover haters" looked back and they saw MKO in ruins, burning and destroyed... but it needed to be done. Now they'll head to Midway HQ, to prove to someone who MK belongs to.

LOL just kidding, putting in some drama. I just woke uptongue

Thanks for the drama. :)

Yeah, I think a lot of fans just need an outlet to vent right now. Sort of like screaming profanities into a pillow so no one else in your family can hear you.

I guess the only thing that saddens me here is that games, to me, as a future game artist and developer, should unite and inspire people, get them excited and passionate and eager.

Instead, fan loyalty has been split in two, many are dejected, disappointed, confused, and hesitent. Just going by feedback (both online and off... I am at a game development school), for every person that seems to like the idea, 10 people are rather put off.

Regardless of the games quality, or if the idea is good or not, the damange to the fanbase has been done. I don't see Soul Calibur's fans swearing off the franchise because of Yoda, or Street Fighter's fans saying they'll give it a rental to see if the gameplay will be up to par.

If they were trying to get us excited for the next MK game, they failed. If the were trying to unite MK and DC fans together in perfect game/comic harmony, they failed. If they were trying to make us interested... well, they succeeded, but on the same level that I'm interested in seeing Uwe Boll's Postal... just to see how much of a disaster it is.

Again, the game could be great, but for the fanbase, it really has divided us.

Man, I really do enjoy everyone voicing out. It's pretty cool. What I was scared of is that DC can afford to have this game turn into a flop with their movie deals and comics etc. But can MK afford it? Can MK afford to have this turn into a failure? I really really don't think so. Some would say I'm pointing out the obvious, but what I find security in, or some hope in, is the fact that the general public or general gaming public is going to eat this up!!! Yeah, we go into detail because we are hardcore, MK fans, but the gaming public, or people that just hear about it will go out and purchase it. I don't know, I'm still confused about everything.
