Aslong as threads like these are on the first page near the top at all times, he has no choice but to see it. But once MK7 is announced and this forum gets flooded by zombie scrubs, it's going to be tough to a) keep these threads to the top and b) argue with 500 mkflegend's at once. It'll get brutal just like when Boon said they barely spent any time with MK6's engine and rather spent their time on the mini games. The little group of real MK fans (gameplay players) were crying cocoa puffs while the 500 scrubs were saying "shut up yer no real mk fan lololol". The same 500 scrubs who leave these forums two weeks after an MK game's release. As you might expect, those same 500 scrubs are the ones most heard because us gameplay fanatics are heavily outnumbered. Gameplay posts slip to page 3 within 10 seconds of an announcement of a new MK game.

Please explain why you need to be a diehard gameplay fanatic to be an MK fan? I'm not a huge gameplay fanatic, yet I consider myself a pretty big fan of MK. I make custom MK figures, I make MK emoticons and other GIF's(look at my sig), and I have MK1 though MKD(including MK2 on psx) on all sorts of consoles - genesis, SNES, Gameboy, psx, PS2. I don't think it's fair to categorize only gameplay players as fans. It's inaccurate and could probably be considered rude, as well.

Well, I'm hardly an "Mk Fanatic"; I'm just a Fan... As a Fan, I want improvement, but if 500 other "fans" simply want "Mk Beachball" minigames... Then, I'm afraid the sad result will be Mk7...

Dude, Puzzle & Chess are hardly equivalents to "MK Beachball." I think you're being a little too critical of the minigames in MKD. You talk as if they were completely crap. Besides, MK wasn't the fighting game that decided to embarass itself by adding a volleyball installment to its franchise. Why don't you save your shots for Dead or Alive?

Because DOA is a better fighter than MK, and because Tecmo would never put extras like Volleyball(even though it's a totally different game and not an extra you moron) over gameplay on the importance chart.

Just curious. Were you calling yourself a moron in that post, because I never referred to DOA Volleyball as an extra. I called it an "installment to its franshise."

Learn to read, or more specifically, learn to comprehend what you read, before you use such big, hurtful words like "moron" in your petty insults.

You know very well what he means when he says "real MK fans". He means the people who actually care about the game itself and not about stupid extras that Boon finds more important than anything else.

What fan would like a half-assed game over something at least decent? Doesn't have to be that complex.... just needs to get the basics right...

(I decided to stay on a while, because I suspected that someone might misread my last post)

On the contrary, in fact I love the Mk: Deception "Mini Games"!

I was just using beach ball as a misinformed example, in order to say that game play comes first over extras...

Alot of people want to establish a solid engine without five hundred others clamouring for better Fatalities and cool extras. Yeah, I want better Fatalities and cool extras, but without a competetive engine... tsk, tsk.

I mean I suggest ideas for extras and so on, but there is also a priority to save Mk from low levels of playability. Not that I'd force anyone to stop making "My minigames for Mk7" threads... It's all opinion, of course.

I love Puzzle Kombat and Chess, but we need Test Your Might/ Test Your Sight back!!!! grin

Sorry, double-post unavoidable...

Ummm, no. He specifically referred to real MK fans as "gameplay players." He even put it in parenthesis. He made no mention of extras in his post.

I don't want a bigger movelist Boon. I want a reason to use more than
10% of the ones you've given me. Fix MK with Move Properties.

All fans are definitely important to a franchise, that includes everyone from the people who love to play the game to the people who love to google at whatever character they like to do it to. I'm fine with people being fans of the story, hell that's one of the reasons why I like MK ever since I was a kid. I think the only kicker is that all of these fans who like X element (besides gameplay) in the game would stop playing and speculate/create/critique fatalities, characters, etc. (and hang around the board playing message board types of games) more than play the actual game itself. That's fine of course, whichever way you want to enjoy the game is fine. If that's through posting and talking with buddies about it or with your ideas of where it will go, that's great.

But for longevity and gameplay sake, it would be nice for people to stay because the game was good (strategically) and they wanted to keep learning, keep discussing, and keep challenging how it should be played.

As for the minis in MKD, I don't like any of 'em.
- Chess (requires the core game, the core game being bad)
- Konquest (inconsistencies, voice acting, and the core game)
- Puzzle (because of no gem building. So people just snake everything together and build until they're really high up and start shrinking stuff. Gem building in Super Puzzle Fighter is why you could rush and disturb your enemy, rushing and disturbing in this puzzle game gives your opponent more blocks to kill you with easily since there is no need to align blocks together besides connecting them. From all the games I've messed around with online, everyone seems to build up knowing that their opponent can't do anything of significance to disturb them within like the first 20-30 seconds. Oh yeah, also the timed blocks in Gem Fighter means you can keep your opponent at bay with a rushdown as well.)

I remember when the mini's were announced that some were overly excited and some were like WTF?!? That was way out of the blue, lol. Unlike Tekken, DoA, SC, and VF for their minis, kumite mode, training mode, conquest mode, etc. which may or may not suck, at least they take care of the core game first.

I agree by far and large with Menthol and Satya that movement is everything. In Tekken, when you've truly reached even average level you can feel everything coming together and when you go a little step beyond that, it just feels amazing. You're moving around, baiting people, dashing in, stepping right and it really is just like a martial arts movie. Although for people that never get there, I can understand why they think Tekken is slow. But once you do, or once you've watched someone who can really move and just bait, space, and play it's an amazing thing to do/behold. So different forms of movement in MK7 would definitely be great, especially since MK's variety of supernatural characters lends so much to what can be done with movement.

Imagine Reptile doing movement across the arena by like crawling on all fours which gives him an ability to dash forward under highs really fast and then cancelling his crawl into a sideroll that leaves him standing, would be some hot stuff.

Moron I am not. I'm smarter than 97% of this thread by a large margin. Now shut your scrubby mouth before I rape you with your own character in MKD with half of my life handicapped.

I'd bet money that DOAXBV was made with more care than MKD. DOA4 is gonna kick MK7's ass unless Ed Boon and crew step their game up.

Every fighting game company but Midway (and Tecmo. But Itagaki just does stuff to piss people off on purpose) caters to the gameplay player. Why? Because these are the people who will be giving two shits about polygons fighting each other years down the road. It's pretty obvious who Namco and Sega think are the real fans and it's also pretty obvious who Midway sees as the real fans. So you're right. You are a real MK fan because that's who Midway caters. The gameplay players are at the bottom of the food chain. But me personally, I'd like to think the gameplay fanatics are still the main course. Maybe I've just been spoiled by companies who actually cater to the gameplay first and mini games second.

The irony of all that is those same companies also make better mini games. Heh

I don't give a shit about what a video game publisher thinks is a fan. You never answered my question. Why do you have to be a gameplay player to be considered a real MK fan?

Actually no. Apparently you're not only blind to shit gameplay, but it seems like you have some kind of birth defect where you only read the setences you want to read. Must of the missed that one.. The topic is "MK Sucks"..that is contributing. Anyway...

I am going to do the same thing for Smoke and Johnny Cage that I did for Sub earlier. A little later perhaps...

Fuzzdork is right on that one Menthol. You don't have to be a fan of the gameplay to love MK. I love MK with all my heart and I hate MKDA and MKD's engine.

I just think Midway are morons for taking something that has the potential to be great for granted.

Settle down and stop trying to act all badass with that "I don't give a shit" talk...

I think the point of the whole "the people who like the fighting engine in fighting games are the true fans" statement is a good one. Although it may not be fully true, it's the equivalent of saying "the people who like brain-teasers in strategy games are the true fans" or "the people who like dynamic gameplay/story in action games are the true fans"...

It's just like saying that the people who focus on the main aspect of the game are true fans. It's because if they focus on that specific part, they'll criticize it and try to make it better, and by making the core better, they'll be making the overall game better. Like if the fans of a stratagy game only liked the characters, and didn't care much about the puzzles, the game's design team would likely notice it and focus on the character developement, but by doing that, the game would eventually have great characters, but likely have shitty puzzles (because they didn't spend the time focusing on that part), making it a bad strategy game...

The MK Team doesn't have to abandon the story and characters just to have a good fighting engine, but since it's a fighting game, the engine should be the top priority...

Anyways, the bottom line is, you don't have to be a gameplay fanatic to be a "true" MK fan, but focusing on the gameplay would make the overall game better, which should be what a "true" fan would want...

On another note, what is the actual point of this thread? At first, I thought it was about gameplay discussion, but if you read the first post, it seems like this whole thread was just made to talk about how Tekken is better than MK. I mean, the title of the thread was "MK sucks" (although it somehow changed into "MK sucks... So, Ed Boon is using it as a mind control software package to tak over the world!') But I guess you could say that the purpose of this thread is to show the MK Team how some fans were dissapointed with MK: D. Either way, (with a purpose or not) I think this thread is awesome...

I know what I said only refers to his first sentence. That's all it was meant to refer to. I felt it was funny that he thought I was trying to be a badass because I said "shit." My post was meant as a joke, seeing that I kept saying "shit" over and over. You're kinda slow, aren't you?

And please, you're the last one in this thread to tell someone else to talk intelligently. At least try tospell words correctly when you give them focus by typing in all caps.
