So everyone is getting all excited because soon we will see what the next MK will be like, and the more I think about it, the more its starting to make sense.
-The only facts we know at this point are , darker, grittier, realistic and relaunching the franchise with an all new story and characters.
-Boon has also said that they game WILL be a fighting game, but other than that, fans are going to be surprised with the new direction
-There was also rumor that the mk team has been researching mma recently.
If you put that all together it makes sense.
Mortal Kombat 8 is going to be a fantasy fighter based on realism. So what does that mean. I basically think the new MK is going to be based on the idea of NO LIFE BARS, POSSIBLE ONE HIT KILLS, LIMB DAMAGE, and CLOSE QUARTERS COMBAT. That also means I dont think we are going to see projectiles, teleportation or magic attacks. Which is also why I think the roster is being redone, since most past characters all rely on fireballs and such.
Now if you think about it, this was the direction they started going with in Deadly Alliance (impale continues to take life, more focus on fighting styles than special moves ) , but then slowly meshed the old and new style with Deception and even more in Armageddon.
Now this isnt to say its going to lose its fantasy roots. I still think you will see guys getting their arms cut off, and continuing to fight with one arm until they die. The characters will still be able to consume an inhuman amount of punishment and I also think you'll still see crazy special moves, but with more realistic impact. Like if you get fucked up with a 7 hit sword combo, your character isnt going to just jump back up unscathed. Or if you keep getting kicked in the leg, you character will start to slow down, and throw less effective kicks.
So thats my theory, it just seems to make sense to me. We wont have to wait long to find out, but im thinking their is a very good chance that this is the direction they are going to go with the franchise. A sort of UFC with weapons in a dark gritty underground world.

Realsm=good. Too much realism=Bad. There's a reason there hasn't been a new Bushido Blade game in ages. At the same time, Tao Feng for the original Xbox tried alot of what you mentioned and it failed miserably.
We all want a game that's fairly realistic, but make it too realistic and it severely affects gameplay (look at Shenmue for proof of that.)

About Me
Dedicated, hopeless...Li Mei fan.

I love Bushido Blade. That said...I seriously doubt that that path is going to be where MK goes down. It's possible but I think it's unlikely.
I would be receptive to the idea however.

I also was a HUGE fan of Bushido Blade. I would not be opposed to MK going this direction you speak of.

and how subzero is going to freeze his opponent if there are no projectiles?
I doubt that the game has taken this direction

Boon never confirmed they would be in the next game, just that sub and scorp were likely. And even at that, sub-zero could still use his freeze in fatality form.

Yeah, the pinball is probably just a mini-game. Like Puzzle Kombat. Or trying to pause Kitana's kicks when her butt's directly in line with the camera. Nice!

Cool observation. I remember that game too. I don't have anything to add though...We'll see.
Your idea is interesting but I seriously doubt that they would do that not only would that be destroying most of the fantasy feel to MK. but in some way the fun factor too.
Think about it; no projectile attacks or teleportation’s, well that would for the most part take away the fantasy roots of MK and in some way its dark roots and what would be the point in having a character like Scorpion or Sub-Zero or even Noob Saibot? No inhuman creatures would fit so with out any of that the game would be like those fight club games.
It would be just DOA and I know that may not sound bad, but its MK and that would practically be just making a new fighting game and putting the title of MK on it.
As for limb damage and realism, well as Garlador said, above me realism is good but too much is bad.
Having someone limp their way to punch their opponent in a fighting game is just not fun.
I don’t mean to come off as a prick or like I am against your idea but well, it just would not be MK with out that so I find it unlikely they would do something like that and bring out a game that is alien to us MK fans.
