Thanks Leo, at least I'm not the only one who saw the absurdity in that rumor. Don't get me wrong, I'd never shoot the messenger, because he didn't make up the rumor, he's just passing it along. Who knows, he could be right, but I hear stuff like this all the time.

A couple of weeks back I was at work and I was talking on the phone with a client who claimed to be the Tony Goskie's brother (which kinda made sense considering that his last name was Goskie, and that it's kind of an uncommon last name) and, as stated, I live in Chicago, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility to run into someone who either knows someone or is someone who actually works for Midway considering where I work in relation to the offices at California and Roscoe that they just moved out of recently.

But anyways, I kind of nervously posed the question to him about whether he knew Tony Goskie (I say nervously because we actually have a client by the name of Ed Boon and I asked him if he was the MK creator and he had no idea what I was talking about). Well, like I said, he was immediately like " yeah, I'm Kano's brother" and then he laughed.

Soooo... Then I asked him if he knew anything about the next MK game because I'm a huge fan of the series. He told me he'd been to the MK studios, which they call "the hole" right now since everything's under construction at the new Fulton address, but he said that his brother told him that it's coming along nicely. They have five new characters completely done and most of the groundwork has been laid for the graphics.

There is NO issue with the Unreal Engine 3, which is why I find this other rumor to be so strange. He told me that he thought the graphics looked great and definitely next gen. I asked him if he could tell me about any of the characters that were done and he said that one of them is Samurai (sorry for those that were hoping against having one in MK). He's not named yet, but he's a ronin who disgraced his clan in a former life, and he was looking to redeem himself when a portal from Middlerealm to Earthrealm opened up. Naturally, I asked the guy what "Middlerealm" was and he told me that it's kinda like MK's answer to purgatory, but that he couldn't tell me how it worked into the story.

He also told me that there would be 22 characters and NO superunlockables. I asked him which characters were coming back and he said Sub Zero, Scorpion (who will now go by his human name of Hanzo!) and Mavado, which I thought was kind of a weird choice, but the guy insisted that the MK team has big plans for him.

I asked him if there were any new modes and he said that the story line, create a character and online are so far the biggest chores for the MK team, as they're planning on having A LOT of video. PS3 will have to cache it on the hard drive, but they're finding ways to get around this on the 360.

There will be one new mode however and while he wouldn't go into detail, he said that it's awesome. He told me to think DOA's survival mode (with the food powerups, only alot more different types of powerups) and 4 players on the screen at the same time. Three of them are gunning for you. The second you beat one, they explode and another drops in. He says they'll call it Devastation mode.

By the way, all of this is obviously BS that I'm making up as I go along. None of it is true. Well, except for the fact that I live in Chicago.

Can we all agree that this stuff is incredibly easy to fabricate and pass off as "I talked to a guy who talked to a guy in the know?" Again, I'm not using this as a dig at the guy who posted the thread, but honestly, alot of people seem very quick to raise an eyebrow and say "interesting" when, to me at least, alot of the stuff said sounded like something a 13 year old kid came up with, not something a video game company with a long standing, big money IP would think up in efforts to relaunch a series.

You fill a rumor partly with stuff that most people would believe or already know and then you add a few things that sound like they could be legit and finally put something in there that's so crazy that it might be true. I saw a million of these things before MK:DA, MK:D, MK:A and now MK 8. Yes, that loser who told everyone that he worked in the some department at Midway who said that Game Informer is doing a huge story on MK in February is still sticking in my craw. That jerk. So let's not be too quick to believe.

Sure, me too. But there's a difference between expecting something and saying that it will happen because you know it for a fact.

That's what I'm talking about with alot of these rumors that have popped up in the distant past up until now. They all tend to contain a grain of truth because there's something we already know, then there's something that we expect to be true, and there's the stuff that's too crazy not believe.

I'll say it one more time, I'm not a rumor hater, and I don't bear any ill will towards the original poster whatsoever. I don't shoot the messenger. But the rumor seemed to have all three things that make me think that the souce is full of it, and it all comes in the form of something that sounds like it was made up by a 13 year old kid.

I wanna challenge your view points with this question then:

What do you think would be a more "believable" rumor then? Like, make another, better one for me. One that you'd likely be susceptible to engage, even though you knew it wasn't "official" news.

I read the example you gave of a "freestyled" rumor, and the "level"(you said something about a 12-13yr old), if you will, didn't really supersede the original post much more//less. I mean, I could do the same thing...but I wouldn't be inclined to completely lie like that. lol!

Now, keep in mind that I am not a supporter of making up rumors, or circulating them. But at the same time, I like being optimistic...Means that I might entertain and comment on the thought, but refuse to spread the rumor. See what I mean?

Something to do, I guess. lol

I actually would like there to be a Prey character of some sort. Kinda with jeans and a leather jacket/sports coat. Hell if Kobra was in MKA, or is it MKD?? HMM my memory fails me, then yes, I see no reason for it why not. As long as he is a well rounded character in all aspects, then by all means, proceed.

I'll wait but some of this sounds true, or has potential to be while others I'm not so sure...

Rumors are indeed rumors which are 50/50 until confirmed, either way I know I'll be pleased with the changes in MK8 hehe, online modes with downloadable content, spectacle mode(rumored by Boon in one of the older interviews he said he'd like to see) and the replay match mode is sick...I can see that happening for sure.

Pred, come on! LoL, don't tell me you're "on the fence" about this.

Well, let me try to break this down in a way that'll make clearer how and why I view these "rumours" the way I do.

Why don't I begin with writer's "intro"?

"information upon a new coming next gen fighting game that came to me by a friend who works at a restaurant in Chicago. We chat a lot about games when we meet and a insider at midway games corporation told him about some details of a new project that tey are working on in the mortal kombat series."

Are you joking? Your friend works in a restaurant then suddenly a Midway insider came into the restaurant and started showing him all this exclusive information on a new game? I thought big video game companies gave their information to magazines and shows for publicity and even money, not to some geek at a restaurant for maybe a free burger. Just after reading this I could tell this nerd was full of shit.

Then comes the "details" used to fuel the rumours. Like every would-be worthy rumour, this one has these little details about each bullet point that the writer uses to make his words more believable. Problem is, they suck... a lot. Part of that comes from the fact that the writer of the rumour has a grammar that would make a hillbilly feel like a redneck Einstein. But a bigger part of that comes from the fact that many of these details are nonsensical, badly-thought out and put together, uncreative, and some are just completely wild even for speculation.

"They are doing multi-million dollars marketing campaign(gosh) for the new game which includes this video and it will be shown worldwide as TV advertisement even first time in Japan too."

Like Baraka407 said, what TV Station would allow a 30-minute ad? And read the rest of the first bullet point in the original post! The writer has no idea what the hell he wants to talk about. First he makes it sound like the video will focus on the storylines that have brought MK to where it is now, then he talks about some twist and "the last part" or something being important, then concludes by completely changing the purpose of this "video" to focusing on the new game and helping it "come with a bang". You try to analyze something like this and you just wanna shout a big "shut the fuck up" and hope he hears it from wherever he is.

"Just like the movie you hold the pad in both hands, now turing the right side will get right punch and turning the left with deliver a left punch."

So there's a mini-game exclusive to the PS3, even though the game is coming out in both consoles. How likely is this? Not very at all, obviously. And can someone tell me what the hell this mini-game has to do with Mortal Kombat? Two fighters punching each other in a "chinese eating/drinking place".... just no.

"Next up is some character bios and artworks that my friend saw or listened about."

What, he didn't tell you? Apparantly he's allowed to share the exclusive information with anyone he wants, but he signed a contract that forbids him to say whether he saw the info or heard it. Yeah, that happens a lot.

"Everliving life made his eyes open and he started worshipping in a cave deep in the earth. A apocalptic earthquake get him out to fight in the new mortal kombat. I’m not sure he will be in the game or not for it was concept art my friend mentioned, so not 100% sure. Got it?

What the hell is an "everliving life"? I wanted to elbow his mother in the jaw for giving birth to someone who would write this. But horrible writing aside, read that quote carefully. "It made his eyes open and he started worshipping in a cave"... he doesn't say what his eyes opened to, what he found out or learned, and who the fuck he's suddenly worshipping out of nowhere. Either this is true and the writer is a retard, his friend is a retard, and the insider at Midway is a retard, or this is false.

Secondly, "an APOCALYPTIC earthquake got him out to fight in the new MK". Sure, 'cuz if I went to live in a cave then suddenly an earthquake made me get out, that's the first thing I'd wanna do: go fight in Mortal Kombat!

Oh, and don't even get me started on the "this is not 100%, got it?". To me, that instantly translates to "Please don't call me a TOTAL liar when the game comes out!"

"He and his crew is among the very few unlucky who saw upon the mortal kombat ghost ship one day deep in the ocean and are cursed by it from then. They are hunted by girls who look like “the ring” film girl with long hair covering the face. There is a huge hole in the place of their mouth and no eyes. The girls are called ‘dream hunters’. A fellow is shown lying in bed and a girl is sucking his brain out while he is still alive. Our hero is shown running from them away from oceans all around the world like he is afraid of water. Then he is standing in a dark downtown street where suddenly bright light happens which invites him to fighting."

ARE... YOU... FUCKING... KIDDING ME???? Where in frozen-over-hell do I begin?

First of all, when did the Mortal Kombat ship start "cursing" everyone who looks at it, and especially with "little Samaras with no eyes"? If the MK Team ever comes up with something as ridiculous as this, I'll personally behead everyone of them and convert 100% to Tekken.

Second of all, how does a "bright light happen" and starts inviting people to fight? What an uncreative replacement of the god characters or the ol' invitation.

"A new character is a woman who can bend light around her and look transparent like predator. I can’t remember more on her but she might be sonia."

Sonya just got a mentally-challenged little sister. And apparantly "light" is the writer's answer to everything.

"Midway says they are doing much focus on living forest for the fans demand is too much and it has not been detailed ever as much as it is right now."

Well, this is obviously true, right? Here is a brand new, next-gen, restart of the MK series coming out, and we've all been lusting over nothing more than a realistic living forest. Please fall from a bridge.

"Insider says that the main person Mr. Ed boon who created mortal kombat series was not happy with the working of the graphic engine. It is very much upgraded and is still worked about. They are perfecting it and it is very interactive now. When fireballs and projectiles touch water they produce bubbles and steam."

This is a pathetic attempt at throwing something that is more believable than anything else in the mix so that (he wishes) it would make the WHOLE thing sound legit. Again, he might've succeeded a little bit if he wasn't on his tenth year in the second grade.

"There is a online shopping mode being in works that demand tasks done by the player and play like mortal kombat deception adventure mini game(maybe xbox achievment thing)"

............. WHAT?

So there it is. This kid's story just lacks creativity to such a great extent that it's disgusting. But even as ridiculous as a lot of his ideas are, they would've sounded a little bit more credible if he could write like a normal person. You guys who are buying into this really need to think twice and read it all more carefully before letting you desire for news possess your soul.

And what's with some people going "MK NEEDS THIS" and "THIS IS THE MOST AWESUM THINGZ EVUR!!11!" I'd take an updated copy of Armageddon over an MK game with these ideas, and I'm very, very sad and surprised YOU wouldn't.

ThePredator151 Wrote:What do you think would be a more "believable" rumor then? Like, make another, better one for me. One that you'd likely be susceptible to engage, even though you knew it wasn't "official" news.

Portions of an article from an upcoming gaming magazine focusing on the new installment in the Mortal Kombat series leaked on the internet a couple of days ago! While the owner of the web site who originally got his hands on the upcoming batch of info doesn't wish to publicly announce the link (for fear of it being shut down), word is spreading fast on the new details uncovered, and I'm here to share with you all what I heard!

1. There is a "Story Mode" in the new Mortal Kombat that focuses solely on telling each character's story in the most interactive way possible! According to the article, every other fight in Story Mode will be relevent to the chosen character's storyline in MK8; what this essentially means is that these fights will include a cinematic sequence before (or while) the first punch is thrown, and after the winner is decided! While (as with any MK) there is no way of knowing which cinematics will be canon or non-canon, the MK Team is promising them to be of a considerable length, and some will even be interactive (ala God Of War and Heavenly Sword)!

2. Konquest is shorter, but diversity makes up for it! The article goes on to speak of the newly redesigned Konquest mode for MK:8! While in-depth information is still being locked securely, it is known that a total of 7 characters have been chosen from the 25-characters cast to have a unique Konquest mode. Like a (mini) third-person-adventure game, players will control one of these 7 characters and embark with him/her on an immersive quest somehow related to the new game's plot. A quote from the article suggests that "this new take on the Konquest mode is not only fresh and surprising, but it will help tell the story in ways that we couldn't before with a single protagonist! You will see the new storyline from the eyes of these seven different fighters, coming across new details and twists we just can't include in a standard fighting mode." When asked if these adventures will be 100% canon or not, it was said that they will be, although the ending of each Konquest adventure is not necessarily the end of the MK:8 storyline.

3. With great power comes great POSSIBILITIES! Toward the end of the article, it is stated that new types of offensive plays have been added to the game! No longer are you limited to a swarm of punches, kicks, and bland special attacks. Each character will have a certain number of unique moves that can be strung together, powered up, and otherwise executed in ways that will make fights more eye-pleasing and downright amazing than they have ever been in the past! While it will take some practicing to truly be able to master these new attacks, the MK Team assures that they have not gone overboard with the difficulty of these combinations.

More on the leaked article will be coming soon, so let's wait and hope for more of these great news!

.............

Do I get an award, Pred? I'd say at least an Academy Award is in order.

Whoa, whoa..let me defend myself for a second here before I get to the fun stuff.

Just because I can entertain a rumor doesn't mean I just believe it. In other words, I like to play with the possibility of some of the ideas...sometimes. Or, it's like saying, "I like to see what people come up with".

If they get close to something I thought of before, I like to point at it too. But I'm not fiending for info right now though...got too much other stuff going on to swoon over MK right now. Otherwise I probably would though cuz that's how I got to this site in the first place.

So anyway, no, I'm not on the fence about this rumor, or any other one that has popped up for that matter... because I recognize exactly what they are. I just think it's something to do for the time being since the original author went through the trouble(no, I'm not an idiot).

lol!

Hell yes you get an award lol. That was great for a couple reasons.

1. We should spread your rumor instead.. LmaO....you even had "quotes from an article" in there. wow.

2. Shows the difference you guys are talking about....

So, without further adieu....
